Good morning no rain yet
Mark Brown 9/19/2013 6:15:27 AM Report
Good morning all,
I'm sorry I was unable to attend the Fish Fry at Maplewood last night, Grump (and Grace), but I was attending a very interesting Planning Advisory Committee meeting down at City Hall. Was that Maplewood golf course or the new Maplewood Senior's Residence at the end of Northern Avenue?
In any case, The Planning Advisory Committee's role is to help citizens get their voice heard on Planning issues that come before City Council.
The PAC is a City Council appointed group of dedicated citizens, and they would love nothing more than to provide Planning Recommendations to City Council based on as much citizen input as possible.
If, as a citizen, you have concerns or support for a Planning item then you have a friend in the Planning Advisory Committee, and you should get in touch with them and let them know how you feel.
The Planning Advisory Committee Members are:
Mary Pascuzzi - Chair
Paul Caldbick - Vice Chair
Laura Didier - Member
Peter Egidio - Member
Ozzie Grandinetti - Member
Ann Marie McPhee - Member (Accessibility Specialist), and
Luca Robibaro - Member
The members can be contacted through Peter Tonazzo, the City-provided Secretary for the meetings at 705.759.2780 ... I found Mr. Tonazzo to be EXTREMELY prompt, professional and helpful. As soon as I notified him that I was going to attend the meeting he sent me the Agenda for the meeting, via email, without me even having to ask for it!
Anyhow, this is a Planning committee that speaks to City Council for citizens.
If you have Planning issues then the Planning Advisory Committee are the people you should be talking to FIRST!!
Contact them at 705.759.2780
In other Planning Advisory Committee news:
Skeggs Pacicco Lawyers will be the 2013 recipients of the City of SSM COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AWARD for their restoration of 819 Queen Street East.
Permission to build at what is now known as 819 Queen Street East was first granted by David Pim, on behalf of Queen Victoria because Canada was not a country in 1857 when permission to build was granted, who at the time was listed on the Grant as "Hotel Keeper" because he owned the Old Stone House.
The property now known as 819 Queen Street East was originally built as a Grocery Store with apartments on the second floor, and was owned by T. Dalgleish. The original building, which is still standing today, had James Thompson as it's architect.
Over the years the 'Dalgleish Block' has been occupied by numerous commercial tenants, including:
Green and Walter Barber shop
Lawrence Art Studio
The Eastern Fur Company
East End Dair
Johnstones Dairy Bar
Some's C A Restaurant
Stones Stationary & Office Supply
Mutual Electric Company
Rose's Art Gallery
Arcadia Coffee House, and
Uppercase Book Store
In March of 2011 Skeggs Pacioccco purchased the building, and began major renovations, which took 17 months to complete because of their meticulous preservation of this historically significant building.
Today Skeggs Paciocco Law Offices occupy both floors of 819 Queen Street East.
Congratulations to Skeggs Paciocco, and to all of the twelve other EXCELLENT nominees. As good as Skeegs Paciocco's Community Development is, it was still an extremely difficult committee decision awarding the Community Development Award this year.
Congratulations to all of the nominees. Our city is a better place because of your efforts.
P.S. Thank you very much, Grump, for the helpful CNIB grant for assistive devices information. I'll be sure to pass it along to my taxi patron.

Good morning everyone. Mark we finally agree on something. That is a good committee and while there are two on there I don't know the rest are certainly good choices. Grace, Grace, Grace I know any negative comments about your super hero Harper rankle your nightie These are not just opinions based on ??? like you put forth on Justin. I detail Harper's screw ups that certainly hurt the average Canadian and you turn around and either try to defend or resort to "Harper Hater". Oldie I'll repeat what I said before, "You must be a real treat to live with". Don't be surprised if you wake up some morning with an axe or a frying pan growing out of your head. Goldie re Council, Joe and Council looked at 25,000 votes and chose to implement the resolution that they all knew was wrong and not required. Don't tell me we couldn't find 25,000. red neck votes on the Sault. Yes a good number were duped or simply signed because of a neighbor. They could have easily been replaced by real red necks locally. They all became so popular that it led on to the CAO affair which again was really wrong. I happen to like Joe and believe he has done a good job since but I'm sure I would like it a lot better if it had been done properly. The results would have been the same but the odour would be far more pleasant. It again hurt the Sault and those actions were so far out that that case is being taught in law school as an example of conflict of interest. Duty calls, have a great day all.

Grump Grump Grump...I know any negative comments about your super hero the boy prince rankle your BVD's These are just opinions based on what I've seen JT has done... what was it he has done again????? Sur it's easy for you to detail Harper's screw ups (in your opinion) that certainly hurt the average Canadian (in your opinion)and you turn around and either try to defend "pretty boy don't have a plan" or resort to shut it you "neo-con"
If Justin ever does something or puts out the Liberal game plan I'll look listen and comment and maybe if the shadow plan has value to me I may vote to support him.... As it stands now I just can't get behind someone that tells me that smoking pot is the number one issue for Canadians. While bragging he was smoking a doobie
It's easy to pick at Harper because he's out there doing...No one but the rabid fans like yourself are sure what the Liberal game plan is or when the shoe will drop!
I guess it's a neo-con thing to look before you leap!
By the way ...how was the fish?

Have you read...
The Liberal party is now busy surrounding J.T. with "experienced" people.
They admit that J.T. is very inexperienced with many of the issues so they are going to play ring-around-the-shiny pony.
Unfortunately J.T. will have to go it alone when debate time comes.
As you said, I am more than a tad interested in hearing the so very secretive J.T. platform.

I have a very French last name but can't speak a word of it.
I did get a kick (as I usually do) out of B.B. yesterday trying to insinuate that this whole issue was some sort of important history that would be written up in all "the books" and taught in University some day.
As you said...it's a dead horse but some folks just love beating one.

Grump---If you are trying to say that SAPELR had anything to do with the Joe Fratesi deal---then you are dead wrong.
City Council of the day started that one all by themselves by appointing Mr. Fratesi---who was Mayor at that time---to the opening of a C.A.O. for the City and it was done in a closed meeting.
After the brouhaha Mr. Fratesi applied for----and got the job on his merits.

Lets start getting this province under fiscal control by eliminating the many government jobs we do not need any more. Lets
provide corner mail boxes everywhere and get rid of home delivery.(federal, I know...but the same can be done there too).
Have Northern Ontario breakaway from the south and keep the northern money here. The south has no interest in the north other than the taxes we pay.
Reduce the number of supervisory positions that school boards have. We have declining enrollment and increasing supervisory positions.
That's a start...can you add to the list?

what about all the federal and provincial funding to keep our so called tourism going? Along with northern hertiage funding? A ton of other funding sources as well...would we not loose them? As much as we would like to think we can be independant from the south...I not so sure we can...
