Soowat hang in there as they will be back on re kindergarten with, wait for it, more HORSE MANURE. I see Harper is kissing up to Obama re the Keystone Pipe Line. He is apparently now ready to give away the energy farm this time to get the deal. What a schmuck! Have a great day all.

Good morning, everyone.
I just got back from dropping my youngest off at Laurentian for her first year of university.
Going back over some of the costs involved, it really is stunning how the cost of higher education has increased in the years since my other daughter started.
In many cases, corporations have taken over sectors once run by the university, and the costs have gone up accordingly.
Meal plans are no longer 'plans'. All they do is allow you to prepay in one lump sum and the the $6 (!) piece of pizza is deducted off your balance. According to their own brochure, the $2700 deluxe plan allows the student 5 to 6 meals per week as well as 4 snacks per week. I am not sure how someone could survive on that. So they will have to buy groceries, rent a fridge, and cook even with a meal plan.
Intro to Italian... $255
Workbook..... $70 (60 pages)
A basic Italian novel (softcover) $90
Environmental Studies $305
Architectural Design $290
Basic Architecture $205
Over $1000 for textbooks for a single 13 week semester.
Want to share a tiny residence room ? $525/month.
No wonder a higher education is out of reach for so many. Even with scholarships, first year will approach $ 18K.

I see the city wants to give developers a property tax break to those who build new apartment buildings. I disagree with this approach. It's a waste of taxpayer money.
If you want new apartment buildings to help alleviate the chronic shortage of affordable units, have the province change the Residential Tenancies Act. This Act is so skewed in a tenant's favour that a Landlord's hands are tied even if the rent isn't paid or the place is being trashed.
Why anyone would want to build an apartment building. Once built, you are at the mercy of government regulation and the tenants.

shakespeare 9/7/2013 4:17:31 PM Report
When it comes to Oxfords, Spelly, size counts.
If one were to be totally anal, one would say "I emigrated England" as "from" is redundant. Similarly, if one is to accept "immigrate" as a verb (which some of the unwashed do), "to" would be similarly redundant.
Now, let's get back to more "relevant" matters.

How to go, shakey, with 'relevant', and if you wish to disregard my free educational service, exclusive to Sootoday, you are certainly free to use immigrate, immigrant, emigrate, and emigrant, incorrectly.

"ST. PETERSBURG (The Borowitz Report)—Hopes for a positive G20 summit crumbled today as President Obama blurted to Russia’s Vladimir Putin at a joint press appearance, “Everyone here thinks you’re a jackass.”
The press corps appeared stunned by the uncharacteristic outburst from Mr. Obama, who then unleashed a ten-minute tirade at the stone-faced Russian President.
“Look, I’m not just talking about Snowden and Syria,” Mr. Obama said. “What about Pussy Riot? What about your anti-gay laws? Total jackass moves, my friend.”
As Mr. Putin narrowed his eyes in frosty silence, Mr. Obama seemed to warm to his topic.
“If you think I’m the only one who feels this way, you’re kidding yourself,” Mr. Obama said, jabbing his finger in the direction of the Russian President’s face. “Ask Angela Merkel. Ask David Cameron. Ask the Turkish guy. Every last one of them thinks you’re a dick.”
Shortly after Mr. Obama’s volcanic performance, Mr. Putin released a terse official statement, reading, “I should be afraid of this skinny man? I wrestle bears.”
After one day of meetings, the G20 nations voted unanimously on a resolution that said maybe everyone should just go home."
