Grump---Germany was not a threat to the West---in the beginning---so why did we go to war in 1914 and 1939 ? It was not just because we were a British Colony.
The Canadian government--at least in 1939--voted to join the European War.
Canada did have a choice then and they have chosen now to support the U.S.A. morally for now. And so do I.
I am willing to wait for the vote of the U.S. Congress. But Obama can, legally, go it alone.
By the way---The United Nations said yesterday that the Inspectors Report will NOT say who they think used the Poisonous Gas but just that there was or was not Gas used.
So the U.N. will not help---as per usual.

Britain sold nerve gas chemicals to Syria 10 months after war began
BRITAIN allowed firms to sell chemicals to Syria capable of being used to make nerve gas, the Sunday Mail can reveal today.
Export licences for potassium fluoride and sodium fluoride were granted months after the bloody civil war in the Middle East began.
Approving the sale of chemicals which can be converted into lethal weapons during a civil war is a very serious issue.
“We need to know who these chemicals were sold to, why they were sold, and whether the UK Government were aware that the chemicals could potentially be used for chemical weapons.

No bike lane will protect people from being hit...... someone crosses the line, that's all it takes.
Where that cyclist was hit is a very bad spot, wide road narrows down too much after that corner, no room to move anywhere. There is no room there for a bicycle lane, as well as most roads in this city. If bike lanes were put in it would narrow down one lane too much...... i would still ride on the sidewalk on the main roads as i always do. Put the bike lanes on the side of the sidewalk ( between the sidewalk and curb), not on the road with traffic.

When the Russians were in Afghanistan the Americans paid and supplied Osama Bin Laden to fight for them, then dropped him like a hot potato when the Russians pulled out. In the end it didn't work out for either party. You are also right you have to fight for what you believe. I might suggest that you become better informed before you jump into the junk yard dog mode. - Throwing Churchill out of the Oval Office
- Lecturing Britain against leaving the EU
- Calling France America’s strongest ally
- Placing a “boot on the throat” of BP
- Snubbing the funeral of Margaret Thatcher
- Holding up a Senate Resolution honouring Lady Thatcher
- Using a State Dinner for the British Prime Minister as a campaign event
- Insulting words from the State Department: "There’s nothing special about Britain. You’re just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn’t expect special treatment."

The latest News Reports sat that Sarin Gas was used in Syria. The U.S. spies on the ground there obtained samples immediately after the attack and they were tested and found to be Sarin Gas results.
The U.N. Inspectors did not get into Syria for 5 or 6 days after the attack and, in my opinion, much of the evidence could have been removed.
The U.S.A. was not the only Nation warning Assad about using Chemical weapons--most of the civilized world condemned Syria too and they all said there would be " consequences "
Now that more and more proof is coming out daily many of those Civilized Countries are backing out and leaving the U.S.A. and Turkey and, maybe, France to carry out the " consequences "
The use of Chemical Weapons in any conflict has been branded a " War Crime " by most of the Civilized World but the truth of that statement needs to be Policed just like any other Law.
It is still my Opinion that Assad's troops used the Gas on their own people and they should be made accountable for their violation.
The U.N. are useless to Police their Laws---The Arab Nation who should be involved are also staying away.
Russia, China and Iran are not supportive of using Chemical Weapons but are refusing to criticize Syria.
I am going to call many Posters on this Site " Thomas " after one of Christ's Apostles named Thomas who doubted that the risen Lord was Christ until he felt the results of a Sword that hit Christ and was then shown the nail holes in his hands.

Yes, Saddam did use chemical weapons on the Kurds, and Yes, Hitler used gas on the inmates of the concentrations camps, no disputing that, however neither of these people used gas on the battlefield!!!
American spies on the ground in Syria, I would have to say that they were with the Rebels, not with Assads' troops, which to me means they are promoting the rebels cause and would have an agenda that was not in favour of Assad. In other words they are lobbying for the rebel cause, and in my eyes are lower than a snakes belly.
I have no doubt that some form of gas was used, all I question is who did it. I just do not believe that someone who is gaining the upper hand would be so stupid as to use something which would bring the wrath of the western world down on them.
Having witnessed via TV the suicide bombings, do you not think there is a chance that the rebels were prepared to sacrifice a few hundred women and children if it would advance thier cause, just remember you did not see a lot of men of fighting age amoung the wounded and killed.

The American president made a serious gaffe when he stated that the use of chemical weapons would constitute a "line in the sand". That created an incentive on the part of the FSA to stage just such an event. There is just no imaginable reason for the Assad regime to use a chemical weapon at this stage. They are gaining the upper hand in the conflict and it just wouldn't have made any sense. The US is being used and that gaffe is the hook. Now, if they do nothing the president looks weak and ineffectual.
The only way out of this mess is through diplomacy. The sooner they get at it the better.

The West is standing on the sidelines in the Congo, Sudan and a dozen other places where civilians are getting raped and slaughtered on a daily basis. Presently, Syria is the "Miley Cirus" on the various News Channels. But this kind of crap has been going on and is happening all over the globe.
In the West, in general , all we care about is the price of oil at any given time. The Syrian situation could affect that and that is why...all of a sudden we are outraged at what is going on there.
That entire region has been mired in turmoil and discontent for time immemorial....that region is the spawning
ground for the three major world religions..i.e cults, that combined have caused more bloodshed than any biological epidemic or natural disaster.
It is an incredibly intricate and confusing "minestrone" of missed opportunities, misguided self interests, power dynamics and neglect by the rest of the world.
At the end of the day, the best thing to do is stay completely out of it as there is absolutely nothing we could do other than opening our doors for immigration....but the last thing I want is importing more hate and intolerance!
Obama is playing chess and is "waiting" for congressional approval. He is one smart cookie.

Kerry not only said that the Assad forces used the Gas but he also said that their info. was that Assad's brother ordered it to be used.
I am not there but my instincts tell me that it certainly would be to Assad's advantage to use Sarin Gas.
It is an easy way to wipe out a lot of people without suffering any casualties on your own side.
If it can be found out that the Rebels used the Gas then the U.S.A. would just as soon bomb them instead of Assad's gang because most of the Rebels are terrorists.
We may never find out the whole truth but Assad's Gang should be able to supply some proof if the Rebels did it.
We only know that Assad had stockpiles of Sarin because he admitted it.
There is no evidence, yet, that the Rebels had stocks of Sarin Gas.

Yes, it was used during the First World War, and Hitler did not use on the battlefield in the Second for two reasons First was, he knew first hand the results and did not want to involve his own troops in the same again with the obvious retaliation. Remember through the French and British replied in kind in WW1, which is why it was not used the second time around.
Lessons were learned, and agreements were put in place as to the conduct of wars, dum dum bullets were outlawed, torture and killing of POW's were, but not every country was a signature to those agreements, which is why there are/were so many MIA's in Vietnam. If a country is not a signature to those agreements, then it is not Illegal for them to use the banned weapons, morally yes, but not illegal.
We, as western countries, do not use or agree with suicide missions, but that does not stop others, whose way of life and culture, is different from ours from doing so..
Remember both World Wars started with killings and mass propaganda, the first with the assination of an Arch Duke, who nobody really liked, and the second with the killing of people who were expendable in a radio station on the borders of Germany and Poland, and was hyped up by the media in both cases.
