Wisenheimer, I already have Goldcorp and I have Yamana under consideration for my third foray there. Enjoy your Florida vacation.

Bobby, have you seen a gold chart of the past decade and are you paying attention to the folly of our fiat mad governments in the western world? The dow/gold ratio now stands at about 9:1. Historically it returns to 1:1. It is on its way down right now. This could mean 20,000 on the Dow with a $20,000 gold price or a 2,000 Dow with a $2,000 gold price.

I vote for the former as all the new fiat currency heads for the stock market. If it goes the other way, highly unlikely, the stock market will have bargain prices and the governments will have smartened up, again highly unlikely. Have a look at the charts on this article.

THE SAULT STAR THEIF ON SHERBOURNE STREET I really had to respond to this since you are talking about a Thief. Just want to let everyone out there know about an incident that happened 2 days ago. The Sault Star Man Stole $25.00 from my mailbox. I actually seen him remove the money and was in shock. My daughter had the money in the mailbox from a lady that bought some of her old clothes from her. When I seen him grab the money I had no time to respond as he threw the newspaper and ran as fast as he could down the driveway and continued to run and run till I could not see him no more. I contacted the Sault Star right away and told them my story. They said I had to call this other number. Which turned out to be a call center. The lady on phone took my story then said someone will contact me in a day. I said a day? The man just stole money from me he should be fired. So about an hour later the manager calls. I tell him my story. He had enough nerve to say maybe the man thought it was a tip. I said he knew it wasn't a tip that is why he ran as fast as he could. I told him a $25 tip I dont think so. So then the manager started sticking up for the man. I was getting really upset. I asked the manager for his name so I can have the man charged. The manager said he can't give me the name due to the privacy act and that is was not his problem and that it probably isn't necessary to have him charged. I was so upset. I told the The Sault Star company this guy should be fired and to cancel my Sault Star Subscription as I am disgusted on how they don't care there employee stole $25.00. I did not want him around my yard anymore as he is a THIEF... So I would like to let everyone know that is in the Sherbourne, Patrick street area that gets the Sault Star delivered from a man who is in his late 20's early 30's and wears a long beige jacket all the time with dark scruffy hair. To watch out for this this Thief. Especially if other things begin going missing. This man did not get fired from his job as the Sault Star company seems to not care who they hire. We should have the right to know who is coming onto our property especially if they are THIEFS!!!!!!!! So disgusted and Upset!
Mr. Poster 3/22/2013 9:19:12 AM Report

If he is the regualr carrier then you should see him delivering in your neighbourhood. If so...you might want to have a certain "chat" with him. Sometimes this privacy crap goes too far and only protects the perpertrator.

Good morning all, got back from Pembroke last evening and my butt was dragging pretty low. Had a great snooze and an extra three hours this morning. Now for all you gourmet cooks and diners. We dined out at a fairly upscale Italian restaurant Wed. evening and I had ravioli stuffed with butternut squash and cheese served with a sauce, with chicken stock as the main item. They were wonderfull tasting but whoever their cook was they couldn't make dough to match anything made here but the stuffing was light and very tasty. Now I must get it in gear so have a grat day all.

I see statusquo was back last night with his "flame on".
I really don't understand why he gets so angry at something he does not even believe in.
Why doesn't he rant about folks that believe in Unicorns or psychics, there are plenty of them around.
I found it very interesting that statusquo stated the following.

"I maintain that anybody firmly entrenched in a "God belief" is not un-intelligent but psychologically deficient....i.e traumatic childhood issues."

Hey stats.
You won't want to miss this.
I posted it the other day and your above comment seems to fit, perhaps not exactly the way you'd like but it fits.

As for that little thieving s.o.b. that works for the Sault Star, I agree, I'd be waiting for him to come down my street again..or have you brought this to the attention of the police? I know they have "bigger fish to fry" and all that with all the crime happening lately, but still worth reporting in my opinion.
Chrissy79 3/22/2013 10:01:12 AM Report

Yes my husband seen the thief yesterday by was too late to have a chat with him by the time he seem him he was long gone.. I still can't believe the Manager of the Sault Star saying well there is nothing he could do. 1# He can fire him.. There is a start.. I just wanted to bring this attention to the area on sherbourne and patrick street area so everyone is aware. To lock up anything around there yard that this prick can steal.. It just bothers me that the Sault Star don't look into who they hire. They could of been in jail for murder, or theft ect.. and they are coming into our yards. I think they need to get cracking on looking into who they hire... What happened to young children delivery papers for spending money.. Now they have adults that are not trustable doing it taking away the kids jobs.. I think because they can't get hired anywhere else because they're criminals.....

@chrissy 79; The sad fact is you can't get kids to deliver the papers anymore, they are too busy texting and playing games on the computer.. I know as I was a bundle delivery driver and just about every week there was one or two different kid drops, the adult carriers stayed the same.I have a teenage grandson and you couldn't get him too do the flyers if you dragged him down the street with a horse. Kids today by and large are just too lazy and want every thing for nothing...
bino 3/22/2013 10:34:10 AM Report

As for the Sault Star thread,I called the Star to complain about my carrier and said that I was going to cancel my subscription because of the carrier being late and sometimes leaving the paper on my steps instead of the letter box and was told they would rather lose a customer than try to get a new deliverer. So I cancelled and now get my news online. When i want and where I want.

chrissy79... phone the police station and repeat the story to them, they may just have a talk with the fella, who knows. Notifying people on here is a good warning for your neighbours, but only the police can resolve this, they can also confirm with the manager about your phone call and inquire as to why he is taking no action.

Nats85.. to answer your questions about the "rooms" - before Sootoday decided to enable posting under each news article, all news responses were posted here. The 'view room' which is referred to as the red room is for more social chic-chat.
The 'blue room' (which is this one) has become a forum for debate on any topic, mostly political, some religion, a lot of name calling on many days, and just a way to discuss/vent on anything that is of interest to an individual.
It is a fun thing and the fellas here have a good time tossing their opinions around.
There are Summit meetings which take place periodically throughout the year and many of us have met in public places to continue friendly discussions.
There are also social gatherings (red room) and we now also have summit/social get togethers. All in the name of fun and socialization.
Please join in.

Nats85 3/22/2013 12:25:20 PM Report

Carrying a gun makes you feel safer? How and why? You must not have children. Having a gun in the house or on my person would be totally horrifying. It's bad enough that criminals can get their hands on guns (usually stolen from citizens like your selves who have them for protection) and misuse them, so YES let's allow EVERYONE to carry them!! Because we all know that works so well for you guys in the US :| Get real. Carrying a gun doesn't make you any safer, all it does is ENSURE that someone that goes to rob you definitely use their gun on you. You're just guaranteeing more violence inflicted on yourself. At most, you get shot and shoot that person back...GREAT what the f**k did that solve???????? NOTHING. Carrying a gun may make you FEEL safer but definitely doesn't mean you ARE safer. To me, it means the opposite.
Voiceofreason 3/22/2013 12:31:26 PM Report

Proof yet again that Canadians live in a dream world.

Look at any statistic in the U.S. and you'll find where you have the most CCW permits issued, you have the least violent crime. Chicago is a gun free zone and it has the highest murder rate. Connecticut, home of the latest massacre, has Canada-like gun control laws.

So what makes you okay with a police officer having a gun? That he went through a bit of training in Alymer? God, this is why I left Canada. It turned into a socialist overrun ruled nation.
Voiceofreason 3/22/2013 12:32:53 PM Report

Nats, stay informed. You are just as ignorant as you call your neighbors to the south.

Not everyone can get a CCW either. They have to go through a background check similar to the one Canadians go through, and then complete training.
skipper dave 3/22/2013 12:35:36 PM Report

Voice did I ever discuss my theory of small pee pee's and the need to have a hand gun?
Voiceofreason 3/22/2013 12:36:18 PM Report

Teach your children at a young age how to be responsible. I was practicing before a competition in Sault, Canada (Yes, we are allowed to bring our guns across the border if we fill out the paperwork) and while practicing the day before, I noticed a younger guy with his son who were shooting a .22LR. PROPERLY TEACHING YOUR CHILDREN HOW TO BE RESPONSIBLE IS WHAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE!

Voiceofreason 3/22/2013 12:40:51 PM Report

So Nats, explain to me how carrying a gun will get me shot? If I am concealing it, and no one but my knows I have it, how will I get shot. I have the element of surprise.
Voiceofreason 3/22/2013 12:43:13 PM Report

Nats, you have an irrational fear of guns. Admit it.
Wicket 3/22/2013 12:49:04 PM Report

Voice - I WILL ADMIT IT! I have a fear of guns - period! Also, have a fear of knives that are used for reasons other than food preparation.
My irrational fears include heights, flying and maybe dying.
Just because you believe yourself to be brave and carry a gun, does not mean you will not crap your pants when confronted with someone else threatening with a gun who is behaving irrationally.
Voiceofreason 3/22/2013 12:51:44 PM Report

You're right Wicket, it doesn't guarantee anything. But it's an equalizer. And when the guy pulls a knife and you step back and draw, he will run. I guarantee that.
Voiceofreason 3/22/2013 12:52:35 PM Report

A criminal who knows the majority of the public is armed will not rob anyone. Utah is proof of that.
Nats85 3/22/2013 12:53:43 PM Report

I do not FEAR guns, i was raised to RESPECT them. I was raised that they are TOOLS in which my family gathered food. Don't ever call me ignorant. You think because you now live in the US you're so much more INFORMED than I? WRONG, I too lived with my family for many years in the US, in a very large city where shootings were happening at the corner of my street and drive bys were even happening. I am very well educated and EXPERIENCED in life and what it brings thank you. Concealing it means nothing if you live in a place where it is well known and accepted that you are probably carrying. They robbed a man with a knife because there was little to NO CHANCE he was carrying a weapon. If you live where it is LIKELY you are carrying a gun then you better believe the man or woman that will attempt to rob you WILL pull a gun on you.
Voiceofreason 3/22/2013 12:54:08 PM Report

And Wicket, IRRATIONAL fear.
Nats85 3/22/2013 12:56:35 PM Report

And just because guns are NOT allowed does not mean that is WHY those shootings occur. Have you ever studied those states or cities mental health regulations? The incidence of mental health and how they are treated and at what rate? Mental health plays a HUGE role in all of those shootings...those are typically NOT sane individuals.
Voiceofreason 3/22/2013 12:56:40 PM Report

No Nats, they won't rob you period. It's not worth you being able to fight back. Robbery is an opportunity crime, period. Criminals will only strike IF they have the upper hand.
Voiceofreason 3/22/2013 12:57:54 PM Report

Okay Nats, so why don't you try to treat mental illnesses rather than take away guns from SANE, LAW ABIDING PEOPLE?!
skipper dave 3/22/2013 12:58:11 PM Report

Hey wait just a god damn minute I'm getting a thought here so be patient. I may have to apologize to Voice. Marine regulations state that a vessel the size of the Celtic Cross carry a flare pistol with an assortment of different flares. The pistol is bright red and is breach loaded like a shotgun. Now If I was to insert say a star flare and fire at your midsection it would be one hell of a way to go. Now If I could get a gun holster, no Two cause I'm going to give one to Spellchecker and we could go around hilton Beach marina with a big nasty strapped to our hips just in case we get in trouble (I'm thinking we are in pretty much deep do do the first time we pack) Now take this one step further and Spelly and I get all lickered up watching Nascar and decide to celebrate our heroes win by firing from the sun deck out toward the sailboats docked ever so serenely. How long before the OPP make the trip from the capitol Richards Landing over to the Tilton?
If it's longer than five minutes than we should be OK. Unless Spelly has flares that last longer than that. Now do you folks see why when you offer me a beer I graciously decline. It gets way too expensive after the first beer. In my first marriage I once went out for smokes and came back eight hours later with a bullet hole in my trunk. Hands up to those who have had that experience? So thanks Voice and ignore my theory on the wee pee pee and hand guns, not true at all.
Nats85 3/22/2013 12:59:29 PM Report

Utah is also very close to the bottom of Mental Health in the United States as well. So you can't POSSIBLY think that the sole reason for decreased incidence of guns violence is directly linked to the ability of people to carry guns. Don't be so narrow minded.

A couple of us stopped at a gravel pit on the Chapleau highway years ago to check out the sighting on our guns. We met a couple of Americans there who were doing the same thing. One was carrying a 358 Winchester magnum and the other a 375 H & H both of which were selling for about 3 to 4 times what my 30.06 Remington was. I'm not solely blaming guns you ignoramous! you are the one glamorizing the frickin things..lol. All I said was having EVERYONE carrying them was not the answer. And it isn't. Mental Health (which includes addictions people) is a major role in gun violence. Financial status and poverty of a certain city/state is also a crucial aspect when studying gun related offenses. Too many factors play a part for anyone to claim any ONE thing is the solution.
Voiceofreason 3/22/2013 1:07:06 PM Report

PS the bullet hole needs expanding - I dropped in to see my old friend weed willy after being at the hotel for the afternoon. Him and I were making mellow on his back deck. Red Ranger you may have known Willy he had hair down to his shoulders and lived half way between Garson and Coniston. We were buddies as long as he had weed. Anyway out comes his latest acquisition an authentic civil war colt that had to be hand loaded with powder and shot. We set up a target beside the garage and my car (love of my life a 1968, 440 dodge dart swinger) He fired a few times than handed that beast over. Now with just a single hand I aimed at the target and fired. That thing kicked like a mule and it took five minutes for the smoke to clear. Sure enough there was a cleanly defined bullet hole in my trunk and we giggled for a half hour. Beer does that to me. So I now stay away from handguns, beside it takes twenty minutes to load the damn things.

Since I am still a Canadian citizen and only a resident in my current location (yes, residents are allowed to carry) I think I'll print off the new petition to end all chief firearms offices in each province. I have Canadian friends who will be happy to sign it.

Bounder I'm working on a Holiday Inn Express in Pembroke just off 17 on 41 across from the Truck Stop and close to the Best Western. My Father was born in Otter Lake P.Q.. The family moved first to Thessalon around the turn of the century and then to the Soo in the 30's. I used to do a lot of work in the Ottawa/Montreal areas and have always enjoyed the Ottawa Valley and the folks down there. Come out to one of the summits and we can trade a few stories of the area.

Driving is not a right, it's a privilege.

In Canada, owning a gun is a privilege, not a right.

Is it safe to assume that it would be worse for this lady in survival if she had a knife or a baseball bat?

No amount of gun laws will ever prevent criminals from obtaining guns.
They, as you pointed out, get the illegally.

Alrighty then, picture this scenario:
movie theatre filled with people, someone fires a gun, half the adults in the place also have legal guns, stand up and then.....how do you decide who to fire at....mayhem and more than one person gets injured or killed..but that is OK 'cause it was in self defence and protecting everyone from the original shooter who no one is really sure is....
ya, it's ok to have a concealed weapon.
right wing 3/22/2013 2:10:23 PM Report

So VoR has controlled what will be talked about again. Bet it's sitting back watching and grinning with satisfaction while stroking it's ego.
right wing 3/22/2013 2:20:18 PM Report

Some real scenarios...

* In 1997, assistant principal Joel Myrick used a handgun to stop fleeing school shooter Luke Woodham. Woodham, who had killed his mother that morning, murdered two students and wounded several others before Myrick, an Army reservist, rammed his car into Woodham’s and then forced him to the ground.

* At a 1998 shooting at a middle-school dance in a Pennsylvania restaurant, which left one teacher dead and three other people wounded, restaurant owner James Strand took out a shotgun and chased down the teen shooter before persuading him to give up his weapon.

* After 51-year-old teacher Carl Brown opened fire on a Miami welding shop in 1982, killing eight, a man nearby grabbed his gun, jumped in his car, and chased Brown as he fled on his bicycle. The pursuer fired what he said was a warning shot, striking Brown in the back.

* When a shooter entered an AT&T store in 2010 in a small New York town with a list of six employees he planned to kill and shot one of them, a shopper who was an off-duty officer drew his .40 caliber handgun and killed the man.

* A 2007 rampage in Trolley Square, Utah, was put to an end after an officer, who was on a date with his wife, engaged the man in a shootout. The off-duty officer kept the 18-year-old shooter pinned down until more police arrived and killed the shooter.

* In a 2006 school shooting, London Ivey, a school resource officer; and Russ LeBlanc, a former state trooper and driver’s ed teacher, confronted a Columbine-obsessed attacker in North Carolina who was firing at cars outside the school and had killed his father that day. Armed with his pistol, Ivey ordered the student to drop his weapons, and LeBlanc (who was unarmed) put him in handcuffs.

* A student who opened fire at the Appalachian School of Law in 2002 was brought down by a group of law students who were trained as police officers. Two of the students had armed themselves during the shooting and were involved in subduing the gunman.

You see there are plenty of real life scenarios.

VoR, I'll tell you where I'm heading with this. You said a few weeks ago that "poverty equates to criminal behavior". That was a comment that I took offense to. It's a comment based on ignorance. I live below the poverty line and I am not a criminal. Yes, I still have morals and values. I haven't always lived below the poverty line and have had to adjust my standard of living. That doesn't make me a criminal. You should really think about what you say before you start spouting off.

Grace 3/22/2013 4:24:22 PM Report

Sorry but as much as I can see your point about the $25 I fail to understand why you felt that placing cash in the mail box was a secure location.
If you had not seen the person in question remove the cash you would have the assumption that the person you left it there for had picked it up.
A household mailbox is not the securest location for financial transactions. Lesson learned?
realitycheck 3/22/2013 4:26:12 PM Report

Yes, call the police. They are the ones you want to talk with. They are the ones who might get your daughter her money back. They will be able to find out who the guy is because his paper route must run down your street. Did he have a paper bag with him? Is that how you knew he delivered papers? Why was cash left in a mailbox? Shouldn't the person who left it there now have to pay again as the money wasn't left with the person who was supposed to get it? Did you know the money was placed there? If so, why didn't you go out and get it? The police will want to talk with the person who left it there. Did you actually see bills go into the person's hands? Hard to believe the money wouldn't have been in an envelope. You should contact the police but they might already know because you have made the theft public by posting here.

Bounder: I agree with you. Why doesn't the gov't reduce tuitions for students in college courses that are geared to the trades instead of telling provinces they have to chip in to make their scheme work? The fact that the infrstructure fund is for 10 years is laughable, reveryone knows that gov't have to maintain roads, waterways etc. The gov't is not "giving" us the money for these things we're paying for them w/our taxes. The senators should be fined or tried in a court of law for fraud. If you or I cheated on our taxes by falsifying returns we would be fined or tried in a court of law.
