skipper dave 3/19/2013 6:31:27 AM ReportGood morning sweet Soo! And good morning to my lovely spouse who peeks in to see what her hubby is up you. I won't give away her handle she is quite capable of standing toe to toe and holding her own with all. It does have the benefit of keeping me reasonably honest. Had my morning meds so I'll toddle off to rest beside her till the house stirs. Sweet.

I wonder if anyone in Hollywood ever thought of portraying Jesus as really Marty Feldman ugly. Or like Osama?
I suppose it is a step up from Heston's portrayal of Moses.

The weather experts can't accurately and consistently predict the weather or temperature one week away.
Yet the climate change experts and their anti-anything-oil environazis claim they can predict temperatures 30 to 40 years from now.

flyhawk25 3/19/2013 9:16:35 AM ReportGrowing up each Sunday night we would listen to 'The Greatest Story Ever Told' at 5:30 during supper on WSOO.
Essentially it was a drama about the New Testament.
Whenever Jesus spoke, a choir sang an overture and then a booming voice proclaimed the Jesus quote.
It fascinated my young mind and years later I figured out how to duplicate it as a young teacher - I'd hold up an empty metal garbage can and use it as a boom box.
Cracked the kids up.
Probably not a good career move.

It would seem the buzz word has lost its momentum...along with government funds drying up for studying the effect on snails due to global warming.

Brianne 3/19/2013 11:53:51 AM Report"Mr. Steyer, 55, the founder of one of the world’s largest hedge funds, Farallon Capital, ended his active role as an asset manager last October to turn to full-time political activism – and climate change is, in his view, the gravest threat facing humanity.
Increasingly, Keystone XL is painted by its U.S. opponents as a thinly disguised Canadian scheme to ship Alberta’s carbon-laden crude – currently heavily discounted in price – to Gulf refineries where it can be exported. A coalition of environmental groups opposed to Keystone has picked up powerful political allies in recent days and, with the addition of Mr. Steyer, the war chest to wage a national campaign against the project in the decisive weeks ahead."

You know, when I see this type of activity I always wonder what is behind it. Being head of a hedge fund do you possibly think or imagine that he is against this pipeline because in his hedge fund portfolio, he has other pipelines which would suffer because this one was being built? I always have doubts about the altroistic ideas of people with lots of money, there is IMO an ulterior motive somewhere down the road, they do not turn this way for nothing. I would ask you, do you think Mr Gore and Mr Suzuki come and give their talks about the enviroment for free or at cost of airfare and hotel?? No I didn't think so! There is money involved somewhere, always is..

Brianne 3/19/2013 12:22:51 PM ReportHe made his money, and now become activist. He is no longer with the "hedge fund". And yes, possibly there is money behind it all........... but, he's a billionaire and doesn't need anymore either. We'll see what happens !

Maybe my view of these people is coloured by what has happened with hedge funds in the past with local companies, and wealthy people in particular. I doubt very much that these people actually leave completely, some of thier wealth is tied up in the companies they found. I asked you the other day about the situation in Cyprus, seems things are getting pretty dodgy over there, especially as now the E U bankers are demanding that people with bank accounts cough up a percentage of their money in their accounts.. I am just wondering how you view this situation now, could it happen here or in the U S of A or any country if the Government decides the National debt is too high, and decides to take a percentage of monies in bank accounts.. I have been through a similar but not the same process when the U K went decimal like Canada losing the penny/cent. In the U K there were 240 pennies in the pound which became 100 pennies in the pound or 2.4 old pence was worth 1 new penny. This effectively got rid of the Farthing, the old Halfpenny, the threpenny bit, which in itself doesn't sound much, but overtime amounted to quite a bit. Much as the removal of the cent here will overtime amount to quite a bit of inflation/price increases, which ever you want to call it. I wonder if this is a matter of concern for many on here..
Voiceofreason 3/19/2013 3:26:30 PM Report25miller, actually you do have to prove that your numbers are somewhat credible, or else what you say is heresy.
flyhawk25 3/19/2013 3:29:24 PM ReportI find it interesting that some criticize high profile people who make speeches for charging a fee plus expenses.
They seem to be suggesting that somehow the validity of their beliefs is diminished by being paid to deliver it in person.
It is called intellectual property and it has value to many who pay to see/hear them and none for those who do not.
In other word - free enterprise.
We live in a world where old athletes get signing fees for autograph sessions but seem to think less of scientists and politicians who do the same.
Ironic that socialistic principles are mocked until the 'environazis' want to be paid for their time and work.
mallet 3/19/2013 3:49:34 PM ReportFlyhawk25...
I would never criticize anyone for making money out of what they believe in, however I do take unbridge at people who have probably held/hold investments in the area of what they now want to abandon, in this case pipelines. I am not sure, nor do I really want to know what companies Al and David have monies invested in, however if it is in any of the eniromentally un-friendly industries then that would be a little hypocritical.

flyhawk25 3/19/2013 7:06:35 PM ReportVoiceofreason...once again you are incorrect.
The 'assault weapon ban' has not been 'dropped'.
The motion from the Senate Judiciary Committee has not included it - but it may be included as an amendment to the motion.
Whether the Chair Senator Feinstein (D. Calif.) does that or not could make a difference.
Not in the outcome but in actually pointing out which members want it or not.
Remember that amendments to motions are voted on separately.
That way politically each politician - Senator Harry Reid is a prime example - must declare whether or not they want better gun control and whether they want the assault weapon ban
If I were President Obama that would be what I would target now.
You may still be in favor of more controls on everything from background checks to better identification processes but still must vote in public where you stand on this issue of assault weapons.

There will be a lot of posters who will put a different "spin" on that idea.. Thanks, I dont keep a lot of cash on hand at the banks anymore, goes into various funds at the end of each month. A couple of which I can cash in in an emergency, otherwise I can see a lot of people starting to sleep on lumpy mattresses especially in countries which are near the edge, does not bode well for the banking system if governments can with a stroke of a pen remove a percentage of peoples money!!! But you know, I can see this being a non event, I think they will all look at the situation and calmer heads will say no we cannot do that...
Voiceofreason 3/19/2013 7:45:13 PM Reportfly, the ban doesn't stand a chance. These are deer rifles we are talking about, and people know that.

Voiceofreason 3/19/2013 7:48:35 PM ReportThe motion from the Senate Judiciary Committee has not included it - but it may be included as an amendment to the motion.
So like I said, they dropped it from the original bill. No one is going to vote for it.
right wing 3/19/2013 8:12:01 PM ReportBullsh*t....biggest smoke and mirror you have ever seen.
The Democrats don't want this passed anymore than any of the Repulicans.
The Democrats control the chamber, 55-45, this means one thing only....that a good number of Reid's fellow Democrats have made it clear that they intend to oppose any bill.
Why?
Because the Dems fully know that the majority of Americans have a "keep your f*cking hands off our 2nd amendment" opinion...and that means votes...no matter what side you represent.
I will give the Dems full marks though in their attempts at making themselves look angelic while painting the Republicans as those evil gun supporters.
Good luck Dingy Harry.
Voiceofreason 3/19/2013 8:31:53 PM Reporteverson, guess what? They don't have to give a reason. It's their right.

She should have thrown over her old boss, fessed up while she had the chance but she chose to carry on trying to hide the screw ups. And to think Dalton had his farewell tour before retiring again at the expense of the taxpayers. Surely Ms Wynne must be either as stupid as a bag of hammers or it's power at any cost.
