skipper dave 3/14/2013 4:22:39 AM Report

Good morning sweet soo!
I rarely do this but since a new pope takes over I will disclose a small bit of my frustration with the catholic denomination. I tried to make it work I really tried. Studied the bible till I was blue in the faith and (no my boomerang never came back) focused on the new testament. you know the opening line "I have come to show you a better way" My criticism is not with the teachings of the "man christ" but how the Vatican applies those teachings to themselves. They don't - They have both feet planted firmly in this world and operate based on increasing the three "P's" Power, Possession and Prestige." The exact opposite of the teachings, of the christ. So if I was ever to go back they would have cleaned house of all the damage thru sexual abuse thats been perpetrated on our children made amends. Sell off all their priceless palace riches and the palace itself. Take the proceeds and feed the poor. Treat all as equals, no exclusions (especially women). Throw out celibacy. If you want to know why your churches are empty in the north america, people now think for themselves and the catholic church is so unplugged and irrelevant to the ordinary lay person it does not meet their spiritual needs.
Look at your new young priests! Social misfits who can't make it anywhere else. give me a call when you get that straightened out.

Grump 3/14/2013 7:16:17 AM Report

Skipper the Church (any denomination) is simply like man himself (herself) full of flaws and also sin. I don't suggest anyone ignore that part of it but there is good in everything. One has to have faith and do the best they can in the alloted time. Be aware of the sin and do ones best to avoid being dragged down by it. If we let the sinfull side of things that happen in and around the Church break us away from all the good then we are the losers. I'm likely the last guy to preach but that's the way I see it. Have a great day all

You do not have to be a member of the Roman Catholic church, or any man made religious organization, to read the bible.
You can pursue your own truth and have faith.

BIG BROTHER 3/14/2013 8:24:49 AM Report

Grace,
I'm with Trudeau to a certain extent on that point. If I were in the position and wanted to destroy/abolish the Senate, I would choose a bunch of imbeciles to sit on said board, like Harper did. I would then just sit back and watch it implode. Public opinion has now hit a new low with the shenanigans of Senators. It would be a simple achievement for the PM to eradicate, if not just reform the senate now.

The question is this: is Harper smart enough to set the stage the way he has. There is no shortage of imbeciles surrounding him, mostly conservative, but not all. Was it premeditated or did he just by chance choose scoundrels.

Like Rick Mercer said. 'I guess there are no honest people left in PEI who Harper could find to take the position. Bur blaming Mike Duffy for abusing the senate is like blaming a horse for taking a whiz in the street.'

PM of Canada
"As everyone in this room knows, it has become a right of passage for aspiring leaders and prime ministers to promise Senate reform - on their way to the top.

The promises are usually made in Western Canada.

And these statements of intent are usually warmly received by party activists, editorial writers and ordinary people.

But once they are elected, Senate reform quickly falls to the bottom of the Government's agenda.

Nothing ever gets done.

And the status quo goes on.

Honourable Senators, this has got to stop.

For the Senate must change.

And we will be the ones to make it happen.

The Government is not looking for a report.

We are seeking action.

Honourable Senators, years of delay on Senate reform must come to an end.

And it will."

Spelly...sorry but I don't follow the logic of blaming the sins of the father forward onto the son.
Certainly PET was guilty of being too smart and arrogant for his own good.He wasn't the first person to suffer from that and will not be the last.
However this young man will plow his own field and once the sizzle of name recognition fades we'll have to see if there's any steak under it.
As people 'of a certain age' we know that he will make his own mistakes.
Just as we all have.
If our local Liberals pick anyone with credibility to run locally - and do it in a fair and transparent manner - I'll probably support that candidate.
Besides. Why should you care because you have stated many times that you do not vote anyway.
BIG BROTHER 3/14/2013 10:03:13 AM Report

Spelly,
Big surprise!! David Frum, Canadian turned American, speech writer for none other than Dubya, has an axe to grind with the tremendous legacy of PET.

Oh, Trudeau didn't buy into Ron Reagan and, like his liberal protege, Jean Chretien, likely wouldn't have bought into Dubya and his band of merry war mongers.

BTW, did others pick up on the fact that Chretien was at Chavez's funeral. Good for him and for Canada. A country doesn't build bridges by snubbing world leaders.

I'm thinking if this character is legit than crime stoppers are going to pay large coin to talk with this guy. Or he is so lonely he or she will embrace any subject in order to feel part of the herd. When the Conservative government passed its controversial omnibus budget bill last month, it included new powers for certain U.S. law enforcement agents that critics say could have ramifications for Canadian sovereignty.

The Integrated Cross Border Law Enforcement Operations Act now makes it possible for American officers to cross the border into Canada where, as the act states, they have "the same power to enforce an act of Parliament as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police."

Putting Canadians lives at risk: government cuts to food inspection

The Conservative government has cut $56 million from the budget of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), meaning that there are now fewer food safety inspectors checking Canadians' food for contamination and other hazards.
Based on projections presented by the CFIA in its Reports on Plans and Priorities for 2012-2013, over 300 full-time equivalent jobs will be cut by 2015, including 100 inspectors who have already been laid off.

Here's one to ponder.
The US Senate Legislation Committee chaired by Senator Feinstein voted to move forward with legislation once again limiting the sale of automatic weapons. The committee members again voted along party lines - the Republicans against it and the Democrats - some reluctantly - voted for it.
Now it will go before Congress and watch the GOP controlled House vote no and the Dems vote yes.
In spite of clear polls showing the majority of Americans favor tougher gun laws and after losing two presidential elections the Republicans will continue to give into the NRA fools and wonder why they can't win elections.
In the meantime cities will continue to be war zones and schools shooting galleries for the wackos.
Perhaps instead of swearing to uphold the Constitution against all enemies 'both foreign and domestic' they should swear to uphold it against all enemies 'both real and imagined'.
Voiceofreason 3/14/2013 3:45:10 PM Report

fly, wrong on all accounts.

Ask anyone from Texas, Nevada, Utah, Michigan, New Hampshire... basically anywhere but NY or CA... and they will tell you they don't want anymore gun laws because criminals do not obey laws and neither do wackos.

Do you know why schools get shot up? Because they are GUN FREE ZONES! Nobody has a gun except the wacko who decides to shoot the place up. Why? Because some idiot made it illegal to carry a concealed weapon in the school.

Fly, I'm sorry, but that post is just a special kind of ignorant.

While I will agree with you 100% that no-one needs a fully automatic gun of any discription, you know full well that the "gun culture" of the U S will always try and stop any infringment of those "rights". Now laws are all well and good, and we have fairly stringent rules regarding what are "restricted and prohibited" weapons, but you more than likely read this about an ex R C M P officer who had stuff that required bomb disposal folks to come and remove his "cache", plus machine guns and loads of ammo. So with all due respect, laws only affect honest law abiding citizens, wacko's and criminals could not care less what other people think!!

Grump 3/14/2013 5:05:13 PM Report

Voice you really are a card carrying NRA kook. I used to hunt and fish years ago and we got it down to a select group that wouldn't get lost and handled their weapons properly. Early on there was always some gun nut wanting to hunt with us and some gave in. You were either trying to dig them out of the bush or afraid of getting shot. I can well imagine that hunting with you would be as much fun. Then again you are likely one of those boys who just wants to sleep with your big gun. And special for you. LMFAO
Voiceofreason 3/14/2013 5:11:54 PM Report

Grump, typical lefty elitist thinking. I know for sure I handle my weapons better than you. The fact that you say you "used" to hunt shows your washed up. If you don't want to own firearms that's fine, but what you want to do has nothing to do with me. If I want to own them, it's my choice AND NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!

You have no say in who owns guns. Get used to it and stop being a sore loser.
Voiceofreason 3/14/2013 5:15:31 PM Report

Also, don't make the mistake of thinking just because you've "been there, done that" that you are more qualified. I can tell you for sure that people like you who try to make law abiding citizens who own firearms look bad an irresponsible further contribute to the problem. You aren't special, Grump. Any Canadian deserves the same privileges as you.
Grump 3/14/2013 5:50:56 PM Report

Voice I have absolutely no problem with law abiding Canadians owning guns but you my friend scare the hell out me by owning them. Run along now and take your meds
right wing 3/14/2013 5:58:27 PM Report

"the drawings are just the documents the contractors bid on and getting one of the engineers to stamp your work is not something I would even consider asking."

skipper, perhaps you misread, I was not asking you for anything. As I stated I already work with a local firm for that service.
I was merely interested in your capacity as involved in engineering as I also have an interest in it.
...anyways...nice chat. (?)
Grump 3/14/2013 6:02:16 PM Report

Dutch Touch sorry I didn't comment on your post earlier. but was playing with Dr. Doom. I'm sure I speak for all at the summit when I say that you and your husband would be a welcome addition at any summit. Hope to see both of you again.
right wing 3/14/2013 6:06:08 PM Report

Grump

As you continually call others an endless rant of names do you ever go back and read your own posts.
I mean really...are you an idiot or just an idiot.

Grump 3/14/2013 6:08:56 PM Report

Fly I have a bone to pick with you. You keep leaving the gate to the swamp open. That said are you just looking for a few laughs?
Voiceofreason 3/14/2013 6:11:23 PM Report

rw, I think he's an idiot...
right wing 3/14/2013 6:12:28 PM Report

...and fly, how about some truth.
Yes Americans by a majority want stricter gun laws, (you know like the ones in Chicago - murder capital of the U.S.) but they do not support bans of weapons.
BIG difference.

Locks only keep the honest people out.
right wing 3/14/2013 6:14:17 PM Report

...so Grump, pal, old buddy, how many times did you hunt with wild unsafe lost hunters before you banned them.
I mean did the rest of the family take it well?
Just asking.
Voiceofreason 3/14/2013 6:15:27 PM Report

He has no problem with law abiding citizens owning firearms, except me. That deserves a LMFAO!
Grump 3/14/2013 6:17:31 PM Report

rw I'm not either, I for one just get tired of this know it all ( but really dumb) crap from you lads with the rose coloured glasses. As you have said I'm here to *iss off righties but it really is far too easy. Also are you telling me that it isn't so much fun getting it as it is dishing it out? Wow what a surprise and here I thought you would be having a great time.
Grump 3/14/2013 6:19:48 PM Report

Wow now we have the Bobsy girls posting in tandem. Well done girls.
right wing 3/14/2013 6:20:19 PM Report

Your not either what...part of the family or digging part of it out?
Sorry I got confused...
I thought we (I) were supposed to be the swamp people.
Voiceofreason 3/14/2013 6:21:15 PM Report

Grump, it is fun watching you dig deep for logic and come up with answers that are a mix of elevated testosterone and ignorance.
flyhawk25 3/14/2013 6:24:09 PM Report

Dutch Touch...when I first read that post about degrees I thought - oh crap. Who cares?
Like most of us I have learned to listen to the person not the CV.
As my dad said - just because you're educated doesn't mean you're smart.
One of my heroes is Eric Hoffer - a longshoreman and a philosopher.
You and your husband are delightful lovely people and it was wonderful to see you both again.
Sitting down at my end of the table I was overwhelmed by the wit, wisdom and life experiences of the folks there.
I look forward to seeing you both at the Summit Cruise. SQ is going to wear his bikini and sing Don Ho tunes.
Grump 3/14/2013 6:24:45 PM Report

rw No they didn't take it well at all, half of the family tried to tell me they were Plumbers and the other half tried to tell me they were big shot Pharma D's. Your families didn't enjoy it one little bit.

Hell, we always enjoy a turkey shoot!
Grump 3/14/2013 6:28:17 PM Report

Grump 3/14/2013 6:31:10 PM Report

Grump, not my fellow at all. I don't condone the killing of innocent people by nutjobs. I advocate concealed carry of law abiding citizens who can stop situations of the like.
Voiceofreason 3/14/2013 6:34:54 PM Report

By the way Grump, residents of certain states in the U.S.A. are allowed CCW permits. Do you want to guess if I have one?
Grump 3/14/2013 6:35:46 PM Report

hmmmmmm, well now, if you hadn't gone and gotten every one all p'sd off, and acting like a bunch of bully brats.

I don't think either one you would have such a fear that someone would want to seriously hurt either one of you ........ do you ?

What happened to have to arm yourself to the teeth and have a fear of something bad happening ?

And especially to have a ccw..... just what business are you in voice......... you said pharma, oh crap..........you're a supplier aren't you ? I knew you'd lead us to what you really are !
Voiceofreason 3/14/2013 7:54:23 PM Report

Uh oh, I've been discovered!
Brianne 3/14/2013 8:04:26 PM Report

Pretty ridiculous huh ! About as stupid as the comments you've been making today.

As far as a ccw permit......I'm thinking you must attend at the Rod and Gun Club and that permit allows you to transport that gun for an hour , to the club, and you get an hour after you leave the club to get it home.

Unless, you are ssmps, opp, you wouldn't be able to take that gun anywhere with you.
redranger 3/14/2013 8:53:16 PM Report

Voice of Reason
you say I am wrong. This merely proves your igniorance of a subject you should be on top of.
Here is a quote from the University of Florida:
"Designed for working pharmacists, the flexible Working Professional Doctor of Pharmacy program will allow you to complete your Pharm.D. requirements in as few as three years while you work so you can maintain your work, family, and personal obligations."
You , of course, had been talking about 4 years after some Mickey Mouse 2 year diploma.
I had said 3 years after a Bph or whatever the Bachelor of Pharmacy is. You see, In Canada we don't have Associate degrees ..only real ones.
Do you demand that those about you call you Doctor? I know what I would call you.
Voiceofreason 3/14/2013 9:35:19 PM Report

I actually have a BSc in chemistry as well redranger, but what's your point?

Also, I don't know how many times I have to state that I do not even live or work in Canada.

Man this gets old.
Voiceofreason 3/14/2013 9:39:14 PM Report

Also, as far as the "mickey mouse" degree goes, why don't you look up the prerequisites for any Pharmacy program in the States. I'm sure there's nothing Disney-ish about it.

The University of Toronto TRIED to get certified for a 4 year Pharm.D program. They failed several times. The USA leads Pharmacy for a reason. Globally, Canadian degrees are about as good as an A+ on a finger painting in JK.

You may carry on with your bull...you have lost my interest. You simply don't know what you talking about. Why did you not even concede that you were wrong when I proved it to you. You went off on a different tack. Go play with your mortar and pestle and let the intelligent Canadians have a meaningful discourse.
Snobank 3/14/2013 10:53:59 PM Report

From Grump to V o R;

"Then again you are likely one of those boys who just wants to sleep with your big gun."

Actually, sleeping with your big gun is a really effective hunting technique. I bagged two moose from my stand that way. My brothers still refer to the 'incidents' as the hunting accidents of '89 and '91. Pure jealousy as they are are the ones that taught me their entirely, time tested and successful 'technique'. :)
sparks7 3/15/2013 1:16:36 AM Report

Ha Atticus..LOL,

It's my guess that that your stomach does not produce moose scaring noises while you are sleeping.
sparks7 3/15/2013 1:35:35 AM Report

Gotta watch out for them "growlings".They can mess up a hunt pretty quick.
atticus 3/15/2013 1:53:35 AM Report

I cave Sparks. My gut gurgling that day certainly delayed our success by about seven days in '88 by my recollection. Crap. But we all still enjoyed many naps, reading westerns, whilst in the company of our respective big gun on our respective stands in the interim. Success again, and so much fun.
