Good morning sweet Soo!
Have had company from Ottawa and New york, all past Saultites. If I have another iconic piece of Mrs. "B's" or Aurora's pizza I'm going to move. So when does the good lady get her name posthumously on the walk of fame?

good morning to all.

just wanted to make a comment about the Tiltin Hilton area. Did you know when I was younger, my dad and I had been out hunting in the Hilton Beach area, and came across remains of a old lime stone operation. Later we found out it was a booming business back in the day. Also up on the mountain (Jocylin Township),(think that is the spellin) there where remains of a old logging operation in the bush, railway tracks( wagons pulled by horses ) would take the lumber to the road. Also there was a old truck sitting there rotting away over the years.
Have a good day to all.

Perhaps you could re-read what I posted.
I do not think of you as and was not suggesting that you are a "nag".
It was my pronunciation that was at fault.
It was meant in humor, sorry if you missed that.

“sorry if you missed that” seriously? Yet another indication of your relentless narcissism. You cant simply apologize for being an ass you have to try and turn it around and apologize for someone not getting your pathetic attempt at social interaction even if it was meant as an insult. It is clear your issues go well beyond that of a socially inept person who hasn’t seen their own feet for well over a decade.

flyhawk25 3/12/2013 8:47:30 AM Report have my sympathies.
I think preference in pizza has more to do with our memory and early influence than we imagine.
For example my pizza virginity was lost at Cleto's on Gore where Toni's Cakery is now.
Then we really were taken by Sorrento's down the street further with their elevated chrome pizza plates.
After having been the lucky groom to an Italian Canadian my kids still rave about their ma's pizza.
I happen to think Pizza King in the Pine Plaza is the best but we could debate this all day.
My goodness I know people who actually prefer pineapple on their pizza.

Stephen Harper was visiting an elementary school he had a little girl sit on his knee for a photo op. while they posed for picture after picture he to her said to her, "Let's talk. I've heard that photo ops go quicker if you strike up a conversation while you’re posing."

The little girl, who was already annoyed with the time the photo op was taking asked Harper, "What would you like to talk about?"

"Oh, I don't know," said the Prime Minister. "How about what changes I should make to Canada?"

"OK," she says. "That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?"

Harper, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it for a second and finally says, "Hmmm, I have no idea."

To which the little girl replies, "Do you really feel qualified to change Canada, when you don't know shit?"

Despite the recession, demand for water remained high since 2008, as droughts and other dry weather conditions created a need for it. While water sales volumes grew, industry players passed on increased rates for water supply to customers. These rate increases are expected to continue, and industry revenue is anticipated to grow 3.7% in 2013. Canada's water rates have increased aggressively over the past five years.

The next five years are set to be even brighter for the water thieves.

Look up C.E.T.A. ( comprehensive economic trade agreement)

Our precious resource is worth millions to a lot of people, and we're going to pay some big prices for that resource........ the new gold.
right wing 3/12/2013 11:07:48 AM Report

Bad Dawg

Around 80% of Canadian municipalities have been undercharging for water services.
Canada has very inexpensive water rates.
Most municipalities are now in a game of "catch up" in order to do much needed upgrades.
We did not pay then but we will have to pay now and in the future...and our rates are still comparatively low.
right wing 3/12/2013 11:12:35 AM Report

Of course...nothing like a good Brianne.

Myth #6: Free trade agreements could force Canada to export its water.

Canada’s FTAs do not consider water in its natural state—that is, water held in natural bodies such as rivers, lakes and streams—as a “good” or a “product” for export.
Canadian federal legislation prohibits the bulk removal of boundary waters from natural basins for any reason, including export.
Canada’s FTAs, including the agreement being negotiated with the EU, do not compromise the measures implemented by Canada’s provinces to protect the water within their jurisdictions.
Brianne 3/12/2013 11:13:54 AM Report

"For two years we have been calling on the provinces and the federal government to take water off the table but the Canadian side seemed intent on using CETA to encourage and lock in the privatization of our public water systems," says Maude Barlow, national chairperson with the Council of Canadians.

“This vindicates the many Canadian municipalities, and the many European and Canadian water justice activists who continue to make sure trade and investment rules do not undermine essential public services like water."

Until now, only the EU wanted to exclude water in this way, with Canadian negotiators asking for the sector to be fully liberalized (or opened) to encourage privatization. But the organizations claim there are still threats to local water systems and municipal governments in Canada's procurement commitments, which the EU calls "highly satisfactory" in the document leaked to Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ).

Not only that, the EU is pressuring Canadian negotiators to eliminate all local content requirements on transit and energy projects, and to eliminate "provincial and regional development clauses".

"Canadian cities and towns are being asked to give up their right to buy locally or 'Buy Canadian' where it makes sense, for example on major energy, water or transit projects. Around the world, countries and cities know these policies work. Local preferences are even normal in the European Union and yet EU negotiators would make them illegal in Canada," says Paul Moist, national president of CUPE.

"We urge the federal government to reconsider this unnecessary and economically dangerous concession to the EU. Canadian municipalities have spoken out against these restrictions to their local autonomy. For the sake of all Canadians, Prime Minister Stephen Harper needs to listen."

Brianne 3/12/2013 11:28:55 AM Report

Part of the "buy local" that they want to make illegal, would include any farmers markets and roadside stands on fresh vegetables and fruit......... is this what we want ? To be forced to buy food from other countries. Pretty soon it will be illegal to "grow" your own food and have a garden.
right wing 3/12/2013 11:51:39 AM Report

Come on now...ban local roadside stands.
Really now....

Myth #10: A Canada-EU free trade agreement would prevent Canada’s municipal governments from sourcing goods and services locally.

Canada’s municipalities may continue to use existing selection criteria such as quality, price (including transportation costs and duties), technical requirements or relevant experience in competitive bids.
A Canada-EU trade agreement would not prevent governments from addressing the needs of their constituents and providing support to local businesses through grants, loans and fiscal incentives.
Projects below a threshold dollar value would not be subject to the agreement, nor would the procurement of services such as research and development, financial, public administration, education or health care services.
Canada’s procurement system is already quite open at all levels of government, currently allowing local and other companies to compete for government contracts.
When foreign suppliers win bids, they usually source and hire locally.
right wing 3/12/2013 11:53:53 AM Report

You can say that again.

The U.S. needs to get stricter gun control laws like we have in Canada so "bad folks" don't get their hands on prohibited weapons.

The Canadian Press

Provincial police and Durham Regional police officers say they found 67 weapons including machine guns, assault rifles, smoke grenades, prohibited crossbows and a 32-inch cannon along with "thousands and thousands" of rounds of ammunition.

The Department of National Defence was brought in to help remove the land mines, grenades, detonator cords and blasting caps.

Military rule back then, rw. A group of us was camped illegally down a track close to a beach in the middle of nowhere (probably a chain of hotels there, now) The police saw our campfire and had apparently heard stories of public nudity (God knows who was watching). They took our passports, told us to go to the Ierapetra police station the next morning to pick them up. My German friend, still a friend, did the usual German thing the next day and started arguing about why it was taking them so long to give us back our passports... so another hour went by. In the end they threw them at us and said if they ever saw us again on the island we would be enjoying their cells. My German friend was about to start again arguing and I just grabbed him by the shoulder and manhandled him out of the police station. I said, " We are driving across the island now and we are catching the first ferry back to Athens ... OK?" Everyone agreed.

A trouble making German friend...I understand.
I had a fluent speaking Italian friend, as good as having a Greek with me.
Bartered us from one end of the country to the other.

I did the usual tourist sites the first time around but spent a lot of time in Piraeus after that. Great harbour view and the best damn sea food I have ever had washed down with plenty of retsina.

I had a Brit working for me in Saudi who bought a Mercedes and was driving it home to the U.K. He and a young Architect decided to make it a holiday as well as driving the car home. On their way they stopped about 50 miles east of Athens at a small Hotel with a nice sand beach. It cost them for their room, food and all the wine they could drink about 18.00 dollars for the two of them per day

Greek food - I fib and tell them I have a rare blood disease that is helped by extra doses of Garlic - Spice of the gods and popes. Hey heard those crazy cardinals are smoking pot in the cistern chapel, they even established a chimney.

Shakespeare: please explain why we cannot make a perfect circle or triangle.
I really want to know so I can use this bit of info in my classes.
I am not being sarcastic here .. I would appreciate this. I thought that only the classic three were impossible, i.e., trisecting an angle, doubling the cube and squaring the circle.
shakespeare 3/12/2013 9:31:52 PM Report

I found this as Plato didn't actually post anything on the web:

"The reason why it is impossible to construct a PERFECT circle is that there is no way for a human (or anything for that matter) to perfectly draw a circle so that every point on the circle is exactly the same distance from the center as the other points. Pretty much anything can throw off the construction of a perfect circle, like the roughness of the writing surface, unsteady hands, and really small things like the movement of the Earth (it may be very small, but, with other things aside, this will throw off the construction of a perfect circle slightly) and anything else can cause a circle to not be perfect"

Plato, despite his detractors was probably right, despite the amateurish woofers or barkers.

Sorry but perhaps I am a bit obtuse. To whom are you attributing the statement about the impossibility of the perfect circle (or any geometric figure including a simple straight line)?

Speaking of pizza. I grew up in the west end and have fond memories of both cleto's and sorrento's pizza. But how about the international restaurant on albert street west next to the old cibc bank. Great pizza and panzarotti's as well.

Here we go again - semantics - Formulate or Construct? One expressed as a mathematical formulae, the other expressed in tolerances? Gentlemen!

Oh alright, give me a ton.
