Good morning sweet Soo!
Excuse me your honour but that's not a convenient court date for my sexual assault charge to be heard. I have a hockey game that day, you see I'm special. How about after the season?

'The Mayor’s Gifts to Dignitaries Program'

What a crock of crap. You like the artwork...buy it!! Then 'gift' it to the so-called dignitaries.

Ask car dealers to donate to the 'Mayor's Gifts to Dignitaries Program'. We'll see just how long the program runs then, won't we!!!

Hey Voice,
Martin has much more to do with the Bridge Plaza Project than Hayes.

Does someone have to spell everything out to you. Quit 'checking' out your products. Maybe then you'll better understand a sentence!!

Was it just me or did the last couple of days kick the crap out of you?

I have been so depressed and down. Best idea I had was sell everything ..pack up..and leave..screw a forwarding address..
Feeling optimistic today but wow were the last two days hell.
Grump 3/6/2013 7:30:14 AM Report

Good morning everyone. The Bridge Plaza was coming to Sault Ste Marie due to the efforts of John Rowswell. Had John lived it would now be well underway not sitting in Limbo Land. Tony M. may be a nice fellow but he claimed responsibility for anything anyone else ever brought in here. I'm no longer a Conservative but had John been able to run I would have been hard pressed to not vote for him as would many others. rw you flap your gums about cutting back on necessary things without reading the article or knowing a damn thing about it. The fact that 20 odd municipalities out there are supporting it's existence and that we have more fresh water lakes than the rest of the world combined should trigger your thought process instead of bringing out more neo-con bile. Grow up, get a life.

The following is directed at "voiceofreason".

I've glanced through yesterday's postings and I find it appaling that a so-called "professional" in the health-care field, as you claim you are, is texting while at work.
It not only is puerile but utterly unprofessional.
You, Sir, have a responsibility to look after folks that rely on your vigilance and professionalism.
I do not care wether you have an I.Q of 170 and can multy task without missing a beat, that is not the issue here.
The issue is with you coming in here day after day, puffing your chest up like an offended quail, belittling other posters that do not agree with your political views or do not posess the "level" of education you claim to have.
I too am a "professional" but I devote my time 100% to the needs of people that seek out my services and if by chance I would have the time to read or even post in here during my hours of operation, I wouldn't! Purely out of principle!!
It just ain't professional!
I would say that 90% of folks who post in here during the day, are either retired or do not have or do not need a job.
As I said before, this site is for entertainment purposes only.
If you want to rant and rave, as I do on occasion, then post during your days off.
Your political views and general oulook on things should be held seperate and distinct from your profession.
I never disclosed what I do for a living, rather I have been "outed"....sometimes I chime in when someone posts somethinmg I happen to know a thing or two about, but that is it.
If you're wise you change your moniker and heed my advice.
You claim to be a professional.
It would behoove you to start acting like one.
Grump 3/6/2013 7:37:41 AM Report

Grace don't let the testosterone get you down. Most girls have simply learned to ignore it, which is certainly my advice to you. On behalf of your not feeling up to par I will try to give the swamp folks a pass today. Cheer up all this will pass.
AceOfBass 3/6/2013 7:57:47 AM Report

Let us take a trip down memory lane...when the PM came to town he met with Mayor Rowswell and during their walk along the waterfront and over by the bridge plaza.

Mayor John pushed for this project.Mayor John made trips to Ottawa for this issue and Tony Martin was left out of the Loop.

Tony Martin voted against the project as a member of the NDP.When the PM and Rowswell were meeting at what is now the Delta.Tony Martin MP was not invited and try to crash the meeting.Ted Brooks was at the door and recognized Tony Martin and he was allowed in.
flyhawk25 3/6/2013 7:59:52 AM Report

Some of yesterday's posts re. the death of Hugo Chavez were a new low even for swamp citizens.
To suggest that his losing struggle with cancer was anyway related to his politics is beyond stupid.
It would be convenient if everything in life were black and white.
Chavez was a complex player on the SA screen and like everyone was flawed in some ways.
The man is dead, his countrymen are mourning him.
Have some respect for the dead.
Retreaded 3/6/2013 8:03:43 AM Report

The sooner the better for the new bridge plaza. The site looks so depressing as you drive up to the one or two booths they are still able to use. A coat of paint would be in order until they can tear that mouse infested place down. It is, at present, far from a welcoming site to our visitors. Hayes needs to get off his behind and move this project forward..before the feds stop printing money they dont have. Lets get our share.
right wing 3/6/2013 8:11:09 AM Report

Ahem,

Bullshit.
Hugo Chavez himself suggested that the U.S. was going around giving other leaders in the world cancer.
So yes it does have to do with his politics.
His politics also prevented him from coming to the U.S. to get health care at at top notch cancer hospital which may have saved his life.
This guy may be a hero to you lefties but he is not any hero of mine.
You can now make your false claims about how he helped his people and entertain us with claims of great health care in Cuba.
right wing 3/6/2013 8:12:10 AM Report

...and not all his countrymen are mourning him.

BIG BROTHER 3/6/2013 8:46:24 AM Report

Grump,
You are right. Rowswell had much to do with the Bridge Plaza development.

My point was this: Bryan Hayes had squat to do with the plan. Giving him credit for letting the 'horse out of the barn', when the horse is already out, is like giving Harper credit for getting Canada through the recession with fewer wounds than, say, Greece.
Snobank 3/6/2013 9:09:13 AM Report

Wow! I've been away from the site for a few days, then last evening I read all of yesterday's postings. I tend to agree with Grace. It seemed to me like a list of depressing moans, groans, faulty conclusions, hurled insults and innuendos. Does anybody here really listen to anybody else, or do you just try to score insulting points? (I removed the word "debating" from between "insulting" and "points" in the last sentence as there is no real debating going on here.)

Maybe it's perspective from being away a few days, but this place reads like the looney bin. I'm going for a shower.

With respect to yesterdays posts from "voice of reason" I have to believe that was a put on by someone with a twisted sense of humour to believe otherwise would have ME turning in the individual to the College of Pharmacology in order to discipline one of their own. My reasoning behind that is if the posts were sincere than clients are put at risk and that is not acceptable. It's easy enough to source the computer that all that trash came from. A simple call to Crime Stoppers should suffice.
skipper dave 3/6/2013 9:28:20 AM Report

A little expansion on why I feel so strongly about "voice of reason" Yesterday it was mentioned that "Voice " had something to do with approval of scripts up at the SAH. Now myself and some very dear new friends sit up in Oncology on a daily basis for Chemo. Our varied and very specific cocktails of chemicals are mixed in the Hospital pharmacy and sent upstairs. Sometimes we have to wait because of the demand on the pharmacy. So to have a Nutbar like "Voice of Reason" in the loop becomes criminal. You think?

There have been some valid points made occasionally on here.
But I agree with the comment that too often this site is overtaken by rigid and inflexible opinions with no room for compromise.
In some ways I see it as symptomatic of a larger societal malaise.
When we consider how many countries fall victim to leaders willing and equipped to prey on simplistic answers to complex issues it is no surprise that the world is in turmoil.
I live in hope that at some point a reasoned and educated population will make decisions that are altruistic and not just rearranged prejudices.
Then I read some of the comments and realize that in spite of technology we are still just tribal people fighting to keep our feet warm and our tummies full.

I am not sure why you would speak ill of the dead, unless of course his (Chavez's) actions cost you money. I am fairly sure that there were other countries that would have treated him for his cancer, but he choose to go to Cuba. As far as his politics go, his country's natural resouces went to the people of his country, not to a few greedy oil conglomarates, and that made him an enemy to the government of the U S of A. I think you will find that there are a lot of enemies of those (oil companies) people around, but have not the power to do anything about it. He was a man and he made some mistakes, so have I, if you have not, better get your ass to Rome, tout suit, I hear there's a top job going begging there!!

Bad Dawg you were the trigger - Let me lighten it up - The other day I'm returning home from SAH. I'm heading up great northern going to turn left on fourth when this little compact cut me off in the turning lane and this little slip of a girl has her head plugged into her cell( I'm thinking Bad Dawg, what would he do). She turns left on fourth line and takes off in a spray of sheep shit and gravel. I try to keep up and like Bad Dawg am morally angry at the type of driving I'm seeing. I think to myself you'd better be turning into the hospice to justify this type of behaviour. Sure enough she brakes, does not signal and turns into the Hospice. I managed to decompress and sympathize with the young lady. Also to giggle at myself, you just never know! Thank gawd for cell phones that may have allowed this young lady to say good by to a loved one. I'm sure Bad Dawd would have responded in kind.

Ultimately who cares who should get credit for the bridge plaza renovation?
My guess is that a tough pragmatic guy like Jim McIntyre had as much as anyone.
All I do know is that it is finally going to happen later than sooner.
In the meantime many people were kicked out of their family homes and lives put on hold while the big boys played 'mine is bigger than yours'.
Just like the original Urban Renewal we are left with a ghetto where a wonderful vibrant neighborhood once thrived, the shakers and movers came out ahead and we still have a bottleneck on our side of the border.
Our downtown is a shadow of what it once was,we still don't have a direct route to HWY. 17 east and west and most of the decision makers are dead or retired.
There are few churches or schools left in the city core and our new shopping area/hospital super facility is not pedestrian friendly.
I don't know if we can afford much more 'progress'.

MP Hayes has ever claimed responsibility for the bridge plaza.

That was done on Rowswells watch as mayor.

Tony Martin voted against the bridge plaza.

Now that construction is about to begin. MP Hayes is not taking the credit that was part of the stimulus package before he was elected.

Changing topics this about City Council not listening to the residents who live around the old Korah Library.

City council voted to allow the building to be made into 12 apartments.

The impact of having an 12 unit apartment on this site is completely stupid and members of council really did not do their homework on this issue.

Concerned neighbors addressed council and the developers again won.

Why is it that Councillors continuously vote against the taxpayers and electors.

Than again it is Councillors who voted for this who don not risk losing their seat at council in the next election.

It always seems to be the decision of Councillors from other wards who make the decisions at no risk ,Maybe it is time to go to an at large system and then these deadbeat Councillors would be held accountable.

It is not necessary to either post a picture of oneself, nor use our real name; just some common courtesy and manners would change the tone of most posters. And no, we don't need to turn this into a girly, girly site, just have civilized, intelligent (wow) conversations expressing our opinion on any topic. Just because someone has a different viewpoint is not just cause for name calling and BULLYING - yes, that is in capital letters for a reason. There is a lot of it on this site. The name calling and BULLYING are the reasons for previous posters to no longer post on here and thus we have the same ol', same ol'.

Wicket....

You want a different topic, I'll give you one... In the U K people who live in council or housing assoc buildings, are going to be taxed on any un-used bedrooms, if they receive any social assistance. One extra bedroom you lose 12% 2 bedrooms 25% of the assistance. you would have read it to get the drift of this but it is to get people to downsize when their kids have left home... Hows that for a democratic country, think it smacks of Big Brother, and I don't mean the guy who posts on here...
Wicket 3/6/2013 4:35:12 PM Report

Mallet - so this just goes to show, Canada is not the only country trying to control how their people live. As we all age, we have different sleeping habits or health issues than our spouses resulting in the necessity for two bedrooms on occasion. Sometimes it is also nice to be able to provide a private bedroom to a guest rather than ask them to sleep on the couch - that fun thing passes after graduation from college/university. Also, where would you store any little extras that you cannot bear to part with after having already given up most of your prized possessions acquired over a lifetime that can put a smile on your face when you look at them....just saying.
Snobank 3/6/2013 4:45:21 PM Report

Remember the good old days when once (I think) a year we could leave large items, chairs, vacuum cleaners etc. out on collection day for the city to pick up,instead of what we have now?

Apparently in Sudbury you can leave large items out, slightly separated from your regular garbage, and someone drives the collection route to make a note of them. A day or two later a truck and crew drive to your address, pick them up and properly dispose of them.

I may not have the actual details exactly right but it would be nice if we had a system something like that. In the Sault if you don't have access to a truck or van you have to impose on someone who does and beg them to help get rid of the junk accumulating in your garage.

Does anybody know more about the Sudbury system? Is it workable. Could it work here?

On another note a hairdresser was was taken to court and fined for rapping the knuckles of a person whose hair he was working on, with a comb, because she kept pulling the rollers out he had put in, yes she had demetia and yes he should not maybe have done it, but now he has an assault record and was fined 200 pounds 85 court costs and 20 pound victim fee. Snobank: How it works here is you dump your "stuff" somewhere on a deserted lot or street, someone calls the city and complains and the city picks it up. How's that for efficiency. Believe me, I've seen it done.
BIG BROTHER 3/6/2013 4:53:15 PM Report

mallet,
Their is a situation here that may be solved by the UK rules of tax on extra bedrooms.

Teens and others who collect social assistance will pool together and rent a property. The rent is based on low income, while they pile other tenants in and share the already low rent. This, therefore, leaves more money for party apparatus.

Oh, off the end of the Government Dock is always convenient. Behind the old hospitals is a really nice spot. You can bring the whole family down and have a picnic, once all the work is done! Just clear away a few dog turds and you're all set to let the kiddies play.
Snobank 3/6/2013 5:07:56 PM Report

I guess my point was not clear. Many of us do not have the means to transport big objects to the dump or collection sites. I want to dispose of things while doing as little ecological damage as I can. (Last year I spent a couple of days driving around town to various sites I was directed to, just to get rid of a microwave oven.)

I thought Sudbury's method seemed very feasible but no one seems to know what I am talking about. I presume from the responses that seem to encourage the dumping of stuff on public or private property that Sudbury is just higher up on the evoluntionary ladder than we on this site are. Never would have thought it.

mallet et al: speaking of the U.K. social intrusions, when we had my oldest friends over from Geordieland two years ago, we mentioned that we might take out oldest granddaughter out of school for a couple of weeks to take her to see some of the historical sites in Italy. She loves history. They said that in the U.K., even if it were an educational trip,it would be very unlikely that school authorites would "allow" it. Apparently some boards are so strict that you can't even take a kid away for a long weekend. People, of course, do but say the child is sick.I was amazed!
I asked what can the board do? Apparently, they can make things very difficult for the parents and for the child in terms of completing the school year.
P.S. did you see the Man.Utd. game? I didn't but I've read about it. It seems that a certain Turkish ref might need a team of bodyguards!

Snobank,
No worries! This time of year, the dog turds are still frozen. Just in case you happened to be worried about the soft mushy ones. Just kick them out of the way. The kids can hoist them at each other if you bring hockey sticks; you and the 'hubby' can relax and just soak in the atmosphere while you eat your sandwiches. Then, when their done, just hoist them in the river.
BIG BROTHER 3/6/2013 5:22:23 PM Report

Actually snobank, the Sault use to have a thing called 'spring clean-up'. For one week, your garbage day would be the pick-up day. The city would haul away just about anything you could carry to the curb. This was stopped a number of years ago. Too bad. It was an opportunity to re-cycle 'stuff'. One person's junk is another's treasure.

The new practice has led to what I described earlier. Junk thrown at the most convenient spot, to save the 5 bucks!
Snobank 3/6/2013 5:26:42 PM Report

Well Big Brother, thank you for that.
As Sacha Guitry said: "You can pretend to be serious; you can't pretend to be witty."

By the way, I have a wife, children and grandchildren who would be surprised by your "hubby" reference. Wishful thinking on your part or just a bad guess?
BIG BROTHER 3/6/2013 5:32:44 PM Report

snobank,
What did Sascha have to say about dog turds? I'm sure it would be very wise words to heed.

Sigh... my first comment of the day still applies. Don't bother scrolling back to look for it, bb, you don't seem to have anything relevent you want to say.

Shakespeare...

Yes and YES... little yes first, now a parent can be taken to court and fined and or prison time if the child does not attend school regulary. From what I understand now that any UN-AUTHORISED absence is treated as truancy, and under the new education acts is a punishable offence...

Big YES... I watched the game, a bookable offence that did not IMHO reach the definition of dangerous play. Unfortunately that referee is very RED CARD happy and have sent off quite a number of U K players in the various competitions. I would imagine the police called in extra officers ... from different parts of the country ... to escort him to the nearest airport and put him on a plane back to turkey.. the turkey... spoiled what was becoming a very interesting game... I am glad that Renoldo did not make a big deal out of scoring, and the Real Manager was also gracious in winning...
BIG BROTHER 3/6/2013 5:48:00 PM Report

Actually Snobank, after reading the skipper's post, I thought I would add my sarcasm to the pile. I'm tired of taking a nice Sunday drive and coming across other people's garbage, be it dog turds or rotten old mattresses. Why do some people think this is OK? Save a whole 5 dollars, go to great lengths to load the truck, just to dump it wherever!?

Wicket 3/6/2013 5:54:53 PM Report

Snobank, if something we no longer need is in good shape and someone else can use it, we put it curbside (in good weather, of course), put a piece of cardboard sign "free - please help yourself" on the item and it is usually gone the same day. Neighbours saw us doing it and some have started to do it also. Just don't put out couches, rugs, etc. unless you intend to tarp it or put it back inside for the night.
Make sure the free sign is cardboard, I made the mistake of using a 1/2 sheet of 3/4 inch plywood and of course, it said free, so someone took it and left the intended item behind...lol - learned my lesson as the expense of my husband's less than happy attitude.
Hopefully this answers your question unlike the previous posters who can't seem to get a grip on what they post.
In London and Peterborough , you can put anything out any time, university students pick it up for the school year and then put it back out when they are finished if it is still in good shape. Picked up a fairly new crib and antique rocking chair a few years ago while in Kanata (west of Ottawa); nothing wrong with them...that had been left curbside.

Wicket 3/6/2013 6:00:41 PM Report

Snobank, re-read your post and I completely missed the point, although what I posted does apply to some things. In the spring, people with 1/2 ton trucks post a pickup dump service for a small charge which helps in getting rid of items that are large and no longer useable. The city revisited the spring cleanup once, a couple of years ago, guess it was not financially feasible. I know that the week they did it, there was not one item put out on our street...

I loved the old days when we had curbside spring cleaning pick up. I saw vehicles with utility trailers trolling the streets looking for "stuff". usually one drove and one walked from driveway to driveway digging in the piles. It used to be a bit of a "highlight" of springtime.
ahhh the good old days (sigh)

Grump & Jim, I honestly don't care what both of you believe. I understand that people like you are what they like to refer to as "ball-busters" and think people owe them something. I owe you nothing and I don't care if you believe me or not. That goes for theprotector as well. I'm done speaking about this because no matter what happens neither of you will believe me and as much as it pains me to say it, Wicket is right. I'd rather have a decent conversation WITHOUT you're edgy quips when someone doesn't agree with your political opinion.
Wicket 3/6/2013 7:19:05 PM Report

Now Voice, why would it pain you to say it? I have not attacked, nor called anyone names, I try to be the peacekeeper...
It would have been kinder to say, Wicket has a good point.....

Jim,

Everybody to a certain extent cares what other people think of them.
Voice has been on the defensive all day long and so he should!
To post in here as a "professional" with the frequency and fervor he has tells me that either,
a. he doesn't take his job seriously
b. he may not be what he likes us to think he is
c. his job is not that important and he is bored at work
d. all of the above

The fact that he has promised(threatened) to post tomorrow on his day off, leaves me to believe that he enjoys showing us "littul" lefty lemmings how dull we are and that he does not have anything more interesting to do in his free time. I for one can think of three things I would rather do...two of them are family friendly, the other past time is something I can only do with another consenting adult and the addition of fishnet stockings, some ointment and a large cantaloupe.
But that's me. To each his own.

rw: when I look at the "posse" that you have surrounded yourself with, all I can do is echo again from "The Tempest" the lament from Trinculo (not the lazy Immigration Officer) as he sleeps with the half-beast Caliban
