I have Diabetes, and I have a small banana just about everyday and it doesn`t rise my sugar very much, you must eat other fruits, you just eat less, besides vegetables are better for you, when people find out I`m Diabetic, they say, Oh my God you can`t have sweets, but I never had a sweet tooth, even as a young child.

Good AFternoon Red Roomies

We had more snowfall overnight. I went outside looked at the driveway and started to walk the neighbourhood looking for someone who would like to get paid to shovel my driveway. Of course all the teens are in school. I saw a truck with a plow and asked if he would clear my driveway. Came to a price of $20. He did it and then told me to pay if forward. Give the $20. to charity or to someone that needs it. Said I would and I will. I do believe in Karma..

Have a wonderful day and be safe!

Afternoon folks..

Well a day in hell yesterday, had to go to town for a dental appointment, just a cleaning for me but the wife had to have a cavity filled. Then on to the dealer for an oil change and service, and then banking and groceries, and a quick trip to see one of the girls.

Don't know what has gone wrong with the city, as far as snow clearance has gone, main roads are full of potholes and side streets are eitherfull of ice speed bumps or so narrow two cars have to creep past each other for fear of side swiping.

Oh well, I don't pay taxes in town anymore so I guess I shouldn't complain..

C5 me too, thank god for insulin, otherwise I would be dead long ago. With Mr Banting's research I can lead a normal life without worrying to too much as regards what I eat, but not to excess..

Bounder.. You be careful out ther on the ice, with this wind it may break up before you know it, it's travelling fairly fast to the west at my place..

You All have a great day and enjoy the sunshine for the next few days.. Hopefully..

lol Celeste.. I've never had a sweet tooth either.. when anyone asks about one, I know they don't understand how the body processes food.

chocolate = sugar
bread = sugar
bananas = sugar
potatoes = sugar
fruits = sugar
lots of vegtables = sugar

Really, about the only thing a body doesn't see as sugar is a protein.. so if you eat a block of chocolate or a loaf of bread.. all the same to your body..

Most bananas these days are 2 servings of a fruit.. they are grownin them big :)

Mallet

I read your recipes, all that white flour you used is a no-no, actualy all white foods are a no-no.

I was pretty much a vegetarian before the Diabetes, I hardly ate much meat, the Diabetes Education and Care Program want me to eat more Protein, I told them I eat peanut-butter and Yogurt everday.

SandyB

People don`t realize that there`s sugar in every food, I try to eat between 4-5 grams of sugar.
I will not give up my 2% Milk, it has 12 grams of sugar, I did cut back to a half of cup, I tried 1& and skim Milk for 1 month and didn`t like it.

Celeste5...

I hate to tell you this, and I certainly do not mean it in any way that I wish you ill, however one fact is that we shall all eventually die. Now some may cling to the belief that one must ensure that one lives as long as possible, but I am not one of them. In my life, and I have passed my 3 score and ten allotted time, I have been in situations and places where survival is more luck than judgement. I am now completely fatalistic, I prefer to enjoy the things I like rather than endure the things that are supposed to be "good for you". I am not going to eat poison, however over the years I have read how this and that are good/not good for you as "experts" change their minds. My wife just loves to read the Obits section, I don't, I see names of people I know and worked with, and I'd rather not see mine...

I will leave you with the old Scottish saying... "May ye be in Heaven half and hour before the Devil knows you're dead"...
celeste5 2/28/2013 5:52:45 PM Report

Mallet, I watched what I ate early on because I got ill, I`m very sensitive and I don`t like to feel sick.
I had my Diabetes under control off the bat, I was told I was Diabetic in May 2005 and couldn`t see about 2-3 weeks later, I had Cataract surgery in September, so I have to watch what I eat, I don`t want to lose my sight or a leg, I like to walk and bike, so I have to be good.
Pink Peony 2/28/2013 7:11:02 PM Report

It's actually about the carbs, which are in both starches and sugars and very little in most veggies. Taking in too many carbs isn't good for anybody.

Celeste5, you are right in what you are doing and what you say. There is nothing wrong with wanting to feel as good as possible while we are alive and doing your best to avoid going under the knife or losing your vision or any other complication that arises from having any type of diabetes...controlled or not.
