Hi Pink Peony,

RLE 2/25/2013 9:54:11 AM Report

Morning all:

Okay I'm officially tired of winter. Somebody make the snow go away
Pink Peony 2/25/2013 10:05:26 AM Report

Breakfast at the new place was fine. I like that they give you a serving of fruit (pineapple & papaya) with your breakfast. Great service, friendly. Good price on the special served till 11am too.

Wicket, they have crepes.
Chocolate, banana, whip cream & berries
Strawberry, banana & nutella (mmmm)

RLE, I've had enough of winter too although it wasn't so bad yesterday when the sun was shining. What a difference that clouds bring to a day.

Good dull, dreary morning to all.
PP - thanks for the report, looking forward to trying out a crepe there.
Enjoy your day everyone and remember that smile...
Bobby Nerves 2/25/2013 10:41:18 AM Report

Good morning.

Thanks PP. I remember the one next to European butcher, but I'd never purchased the bread from them.

We where very close to the area and I used to bike for fresh products, cheese, meat, grains and veggies. Our butcher was the guy next to the tailor store, Sam or something like that.

Thanks again for the link... and the memories.

Morning Folks...

A dull grey morning out at the lake, but at least no breeze to stir the branches at this time..

Recipes, I like 'em. How about one for the non dieters??

3 egg yolks.
1 1/2 cups white flour
1 cup water plus to desired thickness.

3 pieces of fish ( cod plaice basa tilapia)

Beat flour eggs and water into batter
coat fish in batter and deep fry in dripping @350F, until golden brown.

4 Large potatoes peeled and cut into fritters or chips
Deep fry in dripping @ 400F, until golden brown.

Garnish with chopped chives
Vinegar and salt and pepper to taste.

Serve ingrease proof paper and wrapped in old newspaper..

Good for one person, maybe a few chips for friend!!!

For those on a diet change the dripping for vegitable oil!!!

You all have a good day out there...
Wicket 2/25/2013 10:53:42 AM Report

What is dripping?
mallet 2/25/2013 11:06:03 AM Report

Dripping is the fat you get when you roast meat and you leave the gravy to cool, easiest said it's animal fat..
mallet 2/25/2013 11:08:59 AM Report

Wicket et al..

You could use Halibut, but I am not partial to that fish, but you could use it just for the helofit!!
Wicket 2/25/2013 11:57:57 AM Report

Ah, Mallet, I save all of my drippings, add a little water, bring it to a boil to get all the good stuff, put it in tupperware and freeze it. Then, when I am making stew in the slow cooker, I pull out 3-4 packages and add it - lots of awesome, really good flavour. When I say all, that is from everything except fish....

Grump 2/25/2013 6:34:19 PM Report

Years ago I used to work on construction projects quite often in the Ottawa, Hull and Montreal areas. There was a little creperie downtown Hull that made crepes with three different batters. The sheets of crepes were very thin but a good number of square feet. They were served with syrup or bechamel sauce and you could choose from a huge selection of different food products to include in your crepes. I liked lobster and eggs myself but the selection was large enough to give one pause for consideration.
Pink Peony 2/25/2013 7:03:10 PM Report

Mallet, when I lived in the Beaches area of TO, there was a place that made English style fish and chips and served them up that way. I really liked them with malt vinegar.

I usually cook my fish wrapped in foil, on the bbq. ie. salmon, squeeze lemon juice on it, sprinkle herbs of your choice, halved cherry tomatoes and capers on it. Wrap in foil and cook for 20 minutes on bbq.

I forget to mention that the breaky restaurant gives you a choice on how you want your potatoes done...grilled or deep fried.
