bounder 2/22/2013 6:10:19 AM ReportGood morning Celest5 and everyone else, nothing but open water and drifting ice in front of my house,be careful all.
celeste5 2/22/2013 6:26:07 AM ReportGood morning Bounder and everyone else, I was up early, 8 hours of sleep yesterday, 7 last night.
Have a good weekend.
DutchTouch 2/22/2013 8:24:51 AM ReportGood morning everyone.
Nasty, cold wind this morning.
Dress warm if going out.
epc 2/22/2013 9:14:54 AM ReportGood Morning Red Roomies
Nice to see you this morning DT.
I am off to my accountant to do my income tax. It had better be more pleasant news than last year...
Have a great day and be safe!
3rd times a charm 2/22/2013 9:18:52 AM ReportGood morning Roomies :)
Nice to see you Dutch touch...it's been a while--are you trapped by the snow? lol
Yes, good luck with that EPC... xxxxx fingers crossed!
Have a great day everyone!
DutchTouch 2/22/2013 10:25:40 AM ReportGood to hear from you ladies.
It seems we have all survived an old fashioned winter thus far. It ain't over yet though so keep those your snuggies handy.
mallet 2/22/2013 10:30:09 AM ReportMorning All..
Yep, same here Bounder, open water and floating ice, a little early this year, normal is around the middle/end of March...
Well it's Friday again, time to go do the mail run and get the paper to see what has gone on this week. A little less bright this AM, some fairly thick overcast and the wind is a little less calm today..
You all take care out there I am thinking this could be a messy weekend, however I have put in a request to mother nature to keep the storm track well to the south...
RLE 2/22/2013 10:34:24 AM ReportMomma went to the store last evening. When she got home she realized she had lost $5.00. She has the habit of sticking the change in her jacket pocket. This morning I had to go out for something. Found the money beside the car. Came home with two Timmies and thanked her for buying them for us.
Wicket 2/22/2013 10:54:20 AM ReportGood morning and thanks for the my first morning chuckle RLE, always grateful for those suprise appearances of money.
Hey 3Tac, welcome back, wasn't sure if you would make it. Hopefully we will hear from Spelly, get some words of the week and some good stories. Although he has done an excellent job and there are not very many spelling errors any longer - it will be the Reader's Digest version.
Epc, hope you get money back.
Dutch Touch - still envy you the chore of feeding all the birds, we still have pigeons and no feeders out.
Haven't planned my day yet, so will take what comes...enjoy yours and remember - put a smile on someone's face by putting one on yours.
Wicket 2/22/2013 11:02:18 AM Reportkarebear - nice to see you pop in last night. Bertolos owned Peachys long after the Adanac was bulldozed along with the Greyhound terminal.
We are trying to remember where else they operated a restaurant in the Soo, in the 70s, one brother opened a big restaurant on the old highway 17 in Whitefish, just outside of Sudbury. I think it had a motel also. Soo hockey teams of all ages would stop there for meals, whether it be breakfast, lunch, supper or snack food before the drive back to the Soo.
Can anyone else help out..with info.
Wicket 2/22/2013 11:05:25 AM ReportWaiting for Notme (I know you've been lurking) and Nanag - hope you are getting around OK.
Pink Peony - where are you, 3Tac did come back....
And where are all the rest of the fellas - we don't want this to be hen party with only a few roosters in the hen house...lol
mallet 2/22/2013 11:17:20 AM ReportWicket...
Talk for yourself, I do not need the competition. What once was the mast of the good ship Venus, now just watches me tie my shoes...
Wicket 2/22/2013 11:39:10 AM ReportOh Mallet - ROTFLOL....thanks...
Spellchecker 2/22/2013 12:33:42 PM ReportI've just had a look at yesterday's red room postings and it's nice to see some activity in here again.
Pilgrim, I saw your message about NASCAR so I just tried to get to the website and couldn't.
Wicket, if the folks start making a few errors (not intentional because they don't count) I will bring back the Red Room WORDS OF THE WEEK.
While thinking about the days of yore when I was a youthful whippersnapper I recalled going to one of the three Queen Street movie houses, Orpheum, Biltmore (later to become the Odeon) and Algoma. Orpheum and Algoma were Famous Players Theatres. When I emerged I would head into Lawrence's Drug Store to buy a 10 cent comic book to take home. I can still smell the place in my memory.
My favourite comic book was
Walt Disney's Comics and Stories
but I pretty much loved them all.
Spellchecker 2/22/2013 12:40:45 PM ReportYou're right, Wicket. There's not much need for the old spellchecker in here lately even with the latest plethora of postings. We're going to need a few poor spelling newbies if we're going to have a spelling class.
Spellchecker 2/22/2013 12:43:10 PM ReportEither that or I'll do it again in the blue room. There's lots of material there.
karebear 2/22/2013 12:59:48 PM ReportHail hail the gangs all here.....*singing*
I am off for a couple days. Heading over to the US side for a few things and supper at Bay Mills (I am drooling thinking about the crab)
Nice to see some of the "old" names back here. I always lurk - hardly post
Wicket i will ask my mom about the restaurant she should remember (Or maybe my cousin she worked in all the Bertolo's restaurants)
Rockin' Robbie 2/22/2013 1:02:52 PM ReportHi everyone! Thanks Wicket! The Adanac! That sure brings back memories. How's spelly and the Mrs.? I related the story a couple days ago about your bingo lady:) Hope all is well with everyone! We'll have to get northbayer, Sam C, Zinglymiester'mally and some other use-to-be-regulars back too! It's like a family reunion<3
Have a wonderful "Best Day of the Week" all! Hey, have any of you checked out Soo Brewing Co. on my side of the crick yet? It's awesome! We're meeting some friends there tonight at about 6 if anyone cares to pop in for a surprise!:)
Rockin' Robbie 2/22/2013 1:06:53 PM ReportI'll be wearing my Bronco's MANNING game jersey!:)
Wicket 2/22/2013 1:22:52 PM ReportSpelly, to avoid being flogged by a wet noodle in the blue room, you could post their spelling mistakes in the red room and then 3Tac could compile the story.. Do you think that would work, I know they wouldn't learn a lesson unless they came in here.
Thanks Karebear, will await the answers and enjoy your day and crab...
epc 2/22/2013 2:26:35 PM ReportWTF...
I am retired and it's not like I have a big fat teachers pension..
geez... but better than last year.
Wicket 2/22/2013 2:49:21 PM ReportUh, oh Epc, guess that means you're paying?
itsky123 2/22/2013 3:54:39 PM Reporthi all
I seem to remember the ADANAC also being by the brewery plant, next door, think it is a office of some kind now.
Spellchecker 2/22/2013 4:00:49 PM ReportRobbie, I saw your post about the Bingo lady. The Bingo lady has a husband now in her new act. His name is Max. I have inadvertently provided the material from time to time.
Spellchecker 2/22/2013 4:05:19 PM ReportWicket, that would negate my purpose for doing the WORDS OF THE WEEK. I take some satisfaction when occasionally someone learns something from them and doesn't come back with the same errors. It doesn't happen often though. Usually the same errors keep coming back.
Spellchecker 2/22/2013 4:08:12 PM ReportI must say though, that I had much greater success in the old Red Room than I did in the Blue Room. It was really fun in here in the early days.
DutchTouch 2/22/2013 4:40:19 PM ReportI just got in off the highway and am glad to get home.
It's getting pretty wild out here east of the Sault. Complete whiteouts with that wind.
Can't say how things are for the rest of the district.
epc 2/22/2013 5:37:02 PM Reportsorry for the harsh language earlier..
yes I have to pay again this year. No disrespect to teachers intended...lol
Remember Dante's Inferno...Queen and Bay I think...
SandyB 2/22/2013 5:44:09 PM ReportKare.. My man and I were talking about going to Bay Mills the last time I was in the Soo.. but it was just an intention only lol
we did make it as far as the Palace..
:)
SandyB 2/22/2013 5:45:18 PM ReportMallet.. little blue pill, son.. little blue pill :)
mallet 2/22/2013 5:53:16 PM ReportSandyB...
I would just love to have to seek medical attention after 4 hours, however apart from the wife, (who is now one of the nuns, none of this none of that, and certainly none of the other) thats leaves Sadie the husky, who has a very senistive anal area (ask the vet who wants her temperature) and then there are those very nice surgeons at the SRHC Cardiac unit, who when asked about those and other pills of that variety, checked my age and heart condition and started laughing... I got the point!!!
SandyB 2/22/2013 5:55:05 PM Reportactually from your response..
I'll take it you are
point-less
da dum dum dum
I'll be here all week
don't forget to tip your waitress :)
nanag 2/22/2013 8:42:06 PM ReportHello all
this is such a nice change from the "B" room.
Wicket ..I am actually doing a tad better today..thank you.. not great but a bit better..at least it is improvement :)
Seems to be taking this ole body a lot longer to bounce back from injury
Love all the chat on walking down memory lane
Does anyone remember when the museum on Queen was an unemployment office?
I think there was a ??? glass floor??? on second floor.. maybe I'm mistaken
karebear 2/22/2013 9:00:18 PM ReportSandy - Bay Mills was awesome. We started with crab. Then prime rib, BBQ ribs and haddock with veggies and taters. Then salad and a bit more crab. As if that was not enough we each had a piece of cheesecake.
It was painful though. My RA fingers and hang nails are hurting, but I can live with that temporary pain.
mallet 2/22/2013 9:09:42 PM ReportNanag...
When I first came to Canada, that was the ManPower/Employment office, not sure when it changed but that was 1974. Picked a couple of jobs off the boards there, no computers in those days, and you could talk to someone who would generally have an answer for you. T. G. I would not want to go through the system today, I actually feel sorry for the young people of today, so much has changed and not necessarily for the better!!
epc 2/22/2013 9:15:46 PM ReportI remember going there to get my first S.I.N card.
Still have that original one. In my maiden name and I never changed it.
Wicket 2/22/2013 9:44:36 PM Reportglass floor is still there - 2nd floor, has a display in the centre with window walls around it so you can't step on it. When my Dad worked there I would always walk around on the edges cause I didn't want to fall through. It actually had heavy wooden deks, chairs and employees on top of it.
Wicket 2/22/2013 9:46:26 PM Reportkarebear - sounds like a yummy dinner, used to really like going there, but find buffet eating a tad boring now as they all seem to be the same at the Michigan casinos. We are into finding good home cooking in small family owned restaurants when we go into Michigan now - have had good success...
Wicket 2/22/2013 9:47:29 PM ReportDutchTouch - glad you got home alright, we were still out between 5:30 and 6:30 and the wind had really picked up...
joewho999 2/22/2013 10:05:54 PM ReportThe Adanac spelled backwards is Canada.
Wicket 2/22/2013 10:08:34 PM Reportjoewho... funny you should point that out, after all these years, I never gave it any thought and my hubby said just that thing to me earlier today...
