Morning folks: Got up. Put the coffee on. Obeyed momma's instructions to take a roast out for dinner. Dropped the roast on my foot. Said some words you don't hear in church. Later today we have to go to Canadian Tire. So if you're there and see someone limping along, that will be me
not me 2/21/2013 6:43:51 AM Report

Good morning to all.
Not a good way to start a day RLE, hope it heals soon.

Good morning all,Celest5 did you get your whitefish, the ice has gone out from the government dock at the end of Mission Road, that wind broke everything up,be careful on Goulais Bay,where we are fishing there's 16 in of ice,so very safe.
celeste5 2/21/2013 8:19:45 AM Report

Good morning everyone, I slepted in, that doesn`t happen very often.

Bounder, no fish yet, I`m waiting till next week.
Wicket 2/21/2013 10:03:19 AM Report

Good morning, Batchewana Bay from the mission right over to the island is open water - please be careful on the backside of the island.

Today, for those of us that can, is a comfy clothes, blankie, book kinda day. My author of choice today is Jodi Picoult - "Perfect Match". The dusting and whatever else can wait, but supper cannot, so will take a break at some point and plan for that - lol.

Hope you can enjoy your day and remember that smile, it may make someone else's day.

Good morning everyone...had a wonderful conversation with a dear friend the other day....actually it's always fuun to talk with her....anyways, we started to talk about the changes and construction etc. that the city has seen over recent years.....

That of course led to memories of things/people past....

Trip down memory lane...

Does anyone remember a hotel that was on the North side of Queen, right next to where the museum is, across the street from Muio's...I have a vague recollection...?

Wasn't the old Greyhound Depot on the corner of Bay and Brock, SW corner I think?

Anyways, it was fun....

Take care everyone....be safe....

BTW Spellchecker, if you come here, are you having difficulty with NASCAR.com ?

Can't wait for Sunday....."DRIVERS START YOUR ENGINES" have at it...
Wicket 2/21/2013 11:18:14 AM Report

My motivator - Mr. Sunshine and Mrs. Blue Skies have made an appearance, so major change of plans...housework, here we come; book will have to wait.

Morning Folks...

RLE, ouch, I can relate having dropped a 14lb frozen turkey on my foot once, just slipped out of my hands, big toe nail was black and blue for months, and yes I used some good old anglo saxon words that are not usually heard...

Wicket, Yes the lake is very unstable this year, I was talking with the guy at the store at Havilland the other day and he said that the problem was that we had the cold weather but not long enough for the ice to form very thick before it snowed and gave it a insulating blanket before we got anymore real cold weather and of course the little thaw we had did not do much good either. I hope the avid fishermen/women take the OPP's warnings to heart.

Anyways it is a beautiful sunny morning out here cold but there is no wind, where the forecasters keep getting that I do not know...

You all have a great day, one more before the weekend... Enjoy..
Wicket 2/21/2013 11:22:06 AM Report

Pilgrim, the bus depot was on the south side of Bay beside the old Beaver Lumber store and the restaurant (Bertolo's owned it) that stayed open all night; west of Doran's - maybe where the OLG building is now.
Hotel on north side of Queen, west of museum only had a doorway on the street level, the hotel was on the second floor - kinda around the Algoma Theatre and the smoke shop.
FunMan 2/21/2013 11:42:31 AM Report

I believe that the place was called the St, Charles Hotel. It was closed because of a fire.
Pilgrim 2/21/2013 11:42:35 AM Report

That's right, I'd forgotten about the Beaver Lumber store and all night restaurant....

Who remembers the Oak Room dining room at the Windsor Hotel...I proposed to my wife there..as I recall...fabulous steakd and Caesar Salad made from scratch at your table...
epc 2/21/2013 11:42:51 AM Report

Good Morning Red Roomies

I slept in today , but that bright sunshine finally woke me up.

I love walking down memory lane. I don't recall a hotel near the Algoma Theatre, but maybe I am not old enough!!!! lol

On my way to Ajax later to spend some time with my babies.

Have a great day everyone and be safe!
Pilgrim 2/21/2013 11:43:57 AM Report

YES...the St. Charles ... thanks...

It had become one of those brain itches that won't go away until you get the answer....

Wicket 2/21/2013 11:48:58 AM Report

Love, love, love memory lane trips about the Soo. St. Charles Hotel it was, and Epc, it was there when you were here; not many people even knew about it. A lot of bachelors lived there full time and I only know that because my Mom had a cousin who lived and worked there. It was almost like a boarding house for men...
FunMan 2/21/2013 12:19:52 PM Report

While I was attending Central School as a young lad, two of my friends lived at the St. Charles while their father managed the hotel.
Rockin' Robbie 2/21/2013 1:37:51 PM Report

The Oak Room dining room at the Windsor Park Hotel! Oh how I loved that place! Remember the red cushioned high-back chairs? One of my first dates took me there and I felt like a princess!
I remember that truck stop (bus stop) you guys were talking about too! South side of Queen. My girlfriends and I used to drink them out of coffee in the restaurant!:) We could get an order of Poutine for 75 cents and share it! We had to enough change for the bridge bus home:) Do they even still have a bridge bus?
Rockin' Robbie 2/21/2013 3:36:18 PM Report
