Good morning sweet Soo!
Hey happy Valentine's day to the hot stove gang. Special greeting to "Nanag."
If no one has told you today than let me be the first, you are loveable and loved. I have a sneaking suspicion your journey is more difficult than most.
And the very best and most beautiful pottery is fired in the hottest part of the kiln. You have a good day and do something nice for the most important person you love today and that's you.
For me I've chosen not to be alone today. I am off to the SAH to put in a chemo shift and gab session. The misses is sowing backstage today and tonight for the theatre group. I get the step kids when they get off the bus and I'm thinking breaded chicken breast from scratch and home made fries. That usually gets big grins. My step children have great plans for my retirement. They want me to open a chip stand and they will handle the till. What they don't know is I'd have to charge $10 for a small just to break even. Ever see what a one arm guy does to a large russet tater when he's peeling. It's not pretty.
Sorry nanag as usual I'm nattering and story telling. it's the celt in me. have a great day. And as the Irish folk are fond of saying, "It's not the truth or the lie in the story but the telling of the story!

Happy Valentines Day.. I don't really celebrate cuz I have no sweetie..I don't need the chocolate, don't think I will buy myself any flowers..I won't be going out to dinner tonight.
I hope everyone enjoys the day and that all your expectations are met :)

Highly disappointing reading that The Road Kill High Cuisine and free recipes of our co-host Statusquo, has been banned, only to discover that the rest of the world is eating dogs, cats, and now horses!
These facts deserve a petition. Stand up Statusquo! Horses have no right to kick you around!

Breaking News ... Canadians now require an International Driver's Licence" to drive in Florida. (as of Jan.1st). Only $45.00 per year at your local CAA.
With millions of Canadians in Florida or getting ready to go, I give this law several nanoseconds till some brainiac in Tallahassee figures it out. Apparently State Troopers have trouble making out Spanish on illegal alien fraudulent permits.

From today's Toronto Star: Valentine's Day in Pakistan. Just gives you that warm, fuzzy feeling doesn't it?
"Valentine’s is against Islamic culture. In our view, relationships are sacred. We have arranged marriages in this culture and people don’t get married for love,” said Syed Askari, a spokesman for Jamaat-e-Islami. “This is imposing Western values and cultures on an Islamic society.

Until last year my wife and I had been season pass holders at Searchmont for many years. We were getting tired of the diminishing quality of everything and the shoddy upkeep and the lack of accurate updates on what was running and what wasn't. Given the weather, it was a good year to choose.
So for this year we decided to by a couple of six packs (at a reasonable price) and went out today for the first time. The skiing was great on the runs that one could get to, as a race has the majority of the hill tied up for the next four days (apparently the same last weekend)The appalling state of the triple lift from two years ago is even more appalling now with many chairs devoid of covers .. you're sitting on cold wet metal. The quad is apparently out for the entire season, something that has been known for a long time, but was never divulged to package buyers. I like the people who work there, but Searchmont seems to have turned into a charity that is is spiralling downward every year. It is a great place , but it needs to recognise that cutting back on days open, maintenance of the hills, maintenance of equipment and pandering to racing teams each year is going to drive even more people away.
It needs some new management thinking!

Have a Happy Valentine. I'm expecting some good tail tonight (lobster that is)and, some sumptuous loin to sink my teeth into. Don't worry, nanag, it's fillet not filly.
On another issue, have status' recipes been banned? If so, shame on the perpetrator!
right wing 2/14/2013 5:43:12 PM Report
I knew it was a typo but since you leave little to pounce on in this area...I pounced.
At this point I am considering the source and calling statusquo's ban on recipes an unfounded rumour.
shakespeare 2/14/2013 5:52:12 PM Report
rw. it's interesting that you mention the ski hill investment issue; I was told a few years ago that a golf course was the worst investment, but I see the logic that more fogies will play golf than ski. However, other than the competition teenies at Searchmont, the surrounding characters at lunch in the bar were like the cast to Cocoon. At 61, I felt positively youthful. We left early, partly because of wet butts from the lifts, but also because we feared being sucked up into a spacecraft!
Grump 2/14/2013 6:40:48 PM Report
Golf courses in the north are even worse than ski hills. I don't know what the stats are for golf in the south but I'm sure it's much better. Garden River went ahead with their's when even Wabiteck won't touch them. Good luck with that.

What a day - Rumour, innuendos, give them something for the chicken littles to overreact to in the sandbox. Status banned for life due to his loveable sick sense of humour??? International Drivers Licence required in Florida today CAA flooded with calls, no only those from Quebec being forced to apply???? Freedom of speech threatened by Sootoday puritan censorship. jesus (did you noticed I swore) did I miss anything, oh ya "Are Dubya" telling everyone to work out the knots in their panties and loosen up.

T-rat 2/14/2013 8:52:06 PM Report
Tom_Bom, Skipper Dave: the SooToday CENSORSHIP on this site is not only very real but totally without logic. I'm allowed to freely comment earlier today on the idiocy of something islamic reported in anoher mainline media. Later I add to that more idiocy reported in mainline media concerning other religions (judaism, hindi, sikhism, christianity). The gist of my comments involve the treatment of women. But those comments seem to somehow disappeared into some kind of SooToday cyber vacuum cleaner, and with no explanation or justification from the CENSORS. Since the same Censor can't be on duty 24/7 down at SooToday, does this mean that there is indeed no 'rule of thumb' applied across the board but is at the discretion of each and sundry SooToday censors?
Sam C 2/14/2013 8:58:08 PM Report
Tom_Bom... I don't know the details, and have nothing whatsoever to do with editorial policy, but I would remind you that "freedom of speech" is not a given on ANY website.
Have you read the "Terms of Service" agreement?
"You agree to not use the Service to:
• upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable."
T-rat 2/14/2013 9:17:37 PM Report
Sam C: I have to agree with the 'Terms' and in my message earlier that 'disappeared', the only thing that I can see that didn't pass the Censorhsip litmus test was something about men emerging from monkeys, which of course, flies in the face of that book touted by the christians. And in general I took issue with any and most organized religions as being the cause of so much death, misery, hatred and intolerenace. Now, I know that this is a general social comment/observation. So, if the SooToday censors disagree with that is it because they defend those organized religions, in which case they are exercising their own personal opinions?

There is a store in the basement of the Main Library. It is Called "Friends of the Library" The store accepts all book donations.(call first, if you are bringing in boxes of National Geographic)."Friends of the Library" PH# (705)759-5334)
The store hours are from 10:00am to 4:00pm.(Closed on Sundays)
If this is not convenient, donations can be placed outside the doors in the basement. There is an elevator to the store and sorting room. The elevator is through the double doors, main floor on the right. The sorting room is next to the "Friends of the Library", in the basements. All books must go to the sorting room, before the are sold, through the store. There is a children's section in the store. Very inexpensive, children love to shop and pay 10-20 cents for a book. As I stated, all books are catagorized, checked for content etc., before they are placed on the shelves. There is also a small selection of CD's DVD's and VCR tapes.
I hope this information is helpful.
