Good morning sweet Soo! Lets see, park a mile away to watch the brave (nanag pay attention here. Yutes, prairie indians.) yutes jump into the St Mary's river at the sailing club basin whose bottom is composed of thirty years of goose shit and whose water levels are down two feet ....... or .......... Take a great book on Sailing and chauffeur the misses and step kids out to Searchmount for the day. (fireplace, great french fries, good company). No Brainer! Besides got a repair kind of guy doing his stuff at the big house today. have a great day today and I'm kind of expecting David "O" announcement about a cabinet position to be announced today. Jeez the guy has to be picked by default. Then the libs lose the elections and we start all over again.

Good morning all, have a great day Skipper, Spelly who are you trying to intrigue today? lol. Nanag you don't need CBC for wierd stuff just stick around here. A dull day but they are getting longer so there is hope for Spring.
flyhawk25 2/10/2013 8:33:09 AM Report

If the Skipper's prediction for David O's elevation to the cabinet is true it raises an 'intriguing' point.
Will his appointment be the shortest in Ontario's history?
Or will local voters fall for that popular myth again that we need a member of the 'ruling party' in order to get anything done?
I hope he is able to settle in more quickly than our invisible MP - Casper Hayes.

Patrick Brazeau boorish behaviour.

Wow ...Has anyone been following this ....??

Unbelievable ....and they’re still paying this piece of work. What an embarrassment to the FN’s people and Canadian’s as a whole. Is there no accountability. ?? If these allegations are proven to be true, will he have to pay the Gov back ?? I remember back a few years, a Senator living in Mexico not even showing up for his job, for years ..and still he was getting full pay ?? Why does the Government allow these types to keep their jobs. Is it truly a cash for life lottery when you are in these positions .? It shouldn’t be, the Canadian tax payer deserves better and more dedicated persons to be in power, not cheats, liars and thieves.

Good Morning Boys n Girls

Grump you are right about not needing CBC radio but sometimes there is little to no chat fairly early in evening on here and I sometimes need a little "noise" in my head to fall asleep.

I am intrigued by the fact that my daughter has not touched base with me since late Friday. They must be in Michigan by now and on her way home but I didn't hear from them at all yesterday.

Today is the Chinese New Year - the Year of the Snake.
To celebrate my fondness for multiculturalism I thought I'd make snake for supper tonight.
Would you believe that you can't buy snake in any supermarket in town?
I'm wondering if I can substitute something.
Thought I'd try a politician instead.
Any suggestions?

He quite obviously has no shame. The mess he and his buddies created is astounding. None of the 'club' have any service record worth the paper they may be written on, yet have the audacity to start wars wherever and witness thousands of good American soldiers killed, not to mention the 100's of thousands of Iraqis, only to not shut-up and let Obama attempt to clean up their mess.

This must be in the 'good book' somewhere!!
flyhawk25 2/10/2013 12:51:01 PM Report

ABC reported this morning that for the second week in a row there were no US casualties in Afghanistan.
That seems to directly related to the use of drones.
While I disagree with the Americans forcing their ways on other countries, broken drones beat hell out of dead troops.
And they're a lot cheaper than aircraft carriers.
right wing 2/10/2013 1:38:26 PM Report

Well you have a choice, you can live in the la-la land of the lefties and go on believing lies.

...or you can take the time to read and find the real truth about drone attacks.

"A new study released this week by researchers at Stanford and NYU has found that American drone strikes in Pakistan are killing far more civilians than advertised, taking out few high value targets, and have become the primary recruiting tool for the terrorist groups the policy is aimed at combating. The report, “Living Under Drones: Death, Injury, and Trauma to Civilians From US Drone Practices in Pakistan,” is based on “more than 130 interviews with victims, witnesses, and experts, and review of thousands of pages of documentation and media reporting” conducted over nine months.

The research found that, over the last eight years, drone strikes have “killed 2,562-3,325 people in Pakistan, of whom 474-881 were civilians, including 176 children.” Meanwhile, only 2 percent of those killed were “high-level” targets. This means that the strikes have killed three times as many children as terrorist leaders. The report also shows that the impact of the drone war isn’t limited to those directly affected by strikes because the constant presence of drones overhead “terrorizes men, women, and children, giving rise to anxiety and psychological trauma among civilian communities.” People in these regions have become afraid to render assistance to innocent victims or to attend funerals, as both rescuers and mourners have been targeted for secondary strikes."

This is the in depth full report complete with accreditation.
The U.S. is becoming hated more than ever due to the increase of Obama's drone strikes.
Check out chapter two.

Fly they can give those neo-cons a brain transplant as no one else produces anything that small and twisted. rw and of course the folks that hid Bin Laden would never lie about the numbers or use them for their own purposes.
mallet 2/10/2013 2:19:33 PM Report

Grump and Fly...

I am sure that both side fabricate numbers to satisfy their positions, however misiles and bombs DO NOT discrimate between targets and innocent bystanders, generally bullets do. Collateral damage as is so easily said does tend to put off the folk you maybe trying to protect, especially when you kill their kids. Yes, I know they may grow up to be your enemy, but are sure to when you kill their parent/s. So I would ask you, why bother to have an Army, Navy and Airforce if you and they are not will to risk the casualities? I am afraid boots on the ground is the only way, hi-tech may be the thing of the future but until you can actually pin point one person to eliminate then you will lose the battle for hearts and minds and lose the war!!
old-cat33 2/10/2013 2:22:16 PM Report

Who died? Had a game across the river this morning and noticed the Canadian & American flags on the international bridge are flying at half mast?
flyhawk25 2/10/2013 2:22:50 PM Report

Actually I am aware of the study right wing quoted.
The writer is credible.
However what is not credible is right wing's constant harping about lefties.
I am one of that group along with the President.
There is no such thing as a surgical clean war in spite of right wing's ramblings.Civilians die when two sides fight.
To repeat - if the decision to fight is made - I would rather that my guys live and theirs do not.
That does not justify the war; it just cuts down on our losses.
Perhaps right wing would prefer that US troops be put in harm's way instead of robot killing machines.
Just another vacuous statement from his one note instrument.

Mallet the hate mongers preaching Islam have made sure that the minds there have already been lost as you well know. That said there isn't a damn thing wrong with now teaching them a good bit of respect for what happens if they cross the line. I did energy audits for the USA Military a number of years ago and it is heart wrenching to see the military cemetaries associated with some of those facilities. It may seem callous but a few less fanatics and the odd drone vs. American lives doesn't bring any tears to my eyes. Islamists have believed it is them or us for years and it's time we woke up and realized that that's the way it is. Go for it Obama and good for you.

I know all about the various British Cemetaries round the world from the time of Imperialism by the British.. It is not just the ones you kill it is all the other countries that will take umbridge as well, and the home grown ones you now have to deal with. I think we had this discussion the other day. if you are going to do the job well, just remove those you want to keep and use the non nuclear WMD's and get rid of all the others, job over. Of course you will get flack for doing that and all those of the ACLU will be screaming but you just saved those countless lives and, hey you are getting screamed at anyway and if you use the right bugs/chemicals you can always deny it was you. Speaking of wmds.
All we know for certain is that Kurds were bombarded with poison gas at Halabja. We cannot say with any certainty that Iraqi chemical weapons killed the Kurds.
The poison gas used was never in the possession of Iraq but was well known to be in the arsenal of Iran.
It is widely believed (in CIA circles) that the Kurds were gassed by Iran...not Saddam!
The point is...Bush was/is an idiot and destabilized an entire region the results of which we will have to deal with for decades to come.
The mere presence of a Saddam ruled Iraq
would have guaranteed a stable and predictable middle east, the end result being these idiots killing off each other with minimal impact on the West.
The real enemy is Saudi Arabia as they have the money to finance anything they want.
We should cut them off and sink our money into fracking natural gas in order to free ourselves from energy dependency and curb immigration from Muslim countries to a minimum if not zero!
Their world view is incompatible with ours.
Also, we should consider exporting fundamentalist Christians to some God forsaken island. Isle Parisienne comes to mind.
statusquo 2/10/2013 7:25:17 PM Report

Obama has to deal with the consequences of a totally f_ked up foreign policy of his dull predecessor. So he is "droning" the crap out of that region. Good for him!
He is dealing with an enemy not particularly tied to the Geneva Convention.
An enemy that contravenes any and all conventional rules of combat and does not recognize international rules.
I say...drone the crap out of may not make any friends but sure as hell will thin out the herd.
This is a very dirty war and it must be fought as dirty as they can dish out.
Why was it ok to fire bomb Dresden and Hamburg but it is not ok to drone the ass off some radical Muslim asshole?
I need an answer to that one...I think I shall call 1 900 callrw
shakespeare 2/10/2013 7:26:58 PM Report

Never mind "fracking natural gas", I'm wondering what's happened to my fracking PUC bill and my skyrocking fracking property taxes.

You are spot on re the Saudis. More than any they can be chameleons emerging from a flight in the U.K. as snappily dressed business people and return (changing clothes on the plane) as Islam extremists.
shakespeare 2/10/2013 7:39:42 PM Report

I learned that from an old Libyan friend of mine, who travels a lot (he is an physicist and an oil specialist-was a consultant in the tar sands). I hear from other friends recently from the U.K. that since his Libyan family took refuge in Syria, he seems to be coming more odd and interested in an Islamic state, despite living in the U.K. for 40+ years.
statusquo 2/10/2013 7:53:25 PM Report

As far as the PUC bill goes..we're all "fracked".
I shall get a gas range post haste.

The Saudi Royal Family are the scum of the earth as far as I am concerned.
The 9/11 hijackers were all Saudis and so was Osama Bin Laden.
This is a sheep herding clan that somehow managed to cling to power due to circumstance and a rigid religious belief plagiarized from the Old Testament which was in turn plagiarized from ancient Egyptian sun worship
It is no different then some fundamentalist Christian Hocus Pokus.. but thanks to the Reformation and the Enlightenment and HBO and reality TV we tend to not take them seriously.
Both segments are mentally unstable and should be institutionalized and heavily medicated.
But in Yemen or the Sudan and other parts of the Muslim infested African continent I am content to drone the F_ck out of them.
It's all good.
The cooky Christians in our part of the woods will be dealt with when Germany will dictate the course of events.

according to a bridge officer on the USA side, the flags are at half mast due to the death of a "higher up" in the Bridge Authority.
shakespeare 2/10/2013 8:58:00 PM Report

Stats: I am not sure of your view on Germany, but I must admit that I think Spelly is wrong in his prognostications.I really don't think that Germany is going to become a new "Hapsburg Empire". What they may do is do what somewhere like Switzerland has been doing all along which is put a stop to any push by Muslim rights. It's like, you can live here but, if you don't like it , "bugger off". The same will happen in the Netherlands and in Scandinavia. I believe it will be done in a concerted manner (but independently) The U.K will have a far greater problem as their history with eastern immigration and citizenship is longer. It is "extremism" not different religions that is the problem. The Westboro Baptist church seems to be imploding; maybe we can isolate the Muslim fanatics out of our jurisdiction, do our own fricking fracking and tell them to "bugger off".
I must admit that I have totally changed my mind on this over the past few years. I see Muslim immigration and birthrates as a Trojan horse.
skipper dave 2/10/2013 8:59:48 PM Report

On the issue of Drones - Get back here and fight fair. The British Redcoats were outraged that the Americans would not fight toe to toe, eyeball to eyeball in close formation on level open fields. The cowardly bastards tried to minimize their losses by shooting from trenches and behind trees then retreating back. Same as Drones, what a cowardly way to fight. Imagine the effect of the first tanks in World war I. Go Drones Go. Now do civilians die in the process, damn right and Photo-op's are to be used to the fullest. Victims, yes the children. I know let's give peace a chance? Oh forgot the NRA.
Voiceofreason 2/10/2013 9:23:58 PM Report

Interesting fact of the day:

I am actually applying for my State of Maine Concealed Carry Weapon permit, which takes about 60 days to process and would allow me, as a Canadian non-resident, to carry a firearm for defensive purpose in almost 25 different states.

Meanwhile, in Canada, we cannot possess a firearm for self defense purposes. Is it not amazing that the American government trusts Canadian citizens more than the Canadian government?
nanag 2/10/2013 10:25:38 PM Report

I don't think it is a matter of the U.S. trusting Canadians more than the Canadian Government.

The simple fact is the U.S. will let anybody have a gun. Then they cry and carry on when their children get killed. I have lived here all my life and have never had need for a gun to defend myself.
That tired old line of needing a gun for protection is a crock of crap. some people need guns to make themselves feel bigger and badder.
