I had just finished mentally lamenting the demise of Gore St.and a nice lady walking a dog seemed like a ray of sunshine.Talk about a chance encounter.
I always try to shop locally and when my daughter's vacuum's belt broke after trying unsuccessfully to get it apart and replace it I just decided to try out my guy on Gore Street.
Bingo.
Good product, good price and someone who actually knows his products.
Generally I'd stop and pet a dog on a leash but I was in a bit of a rush.

I'm really hearing and paying attention to those Chiefs that have been running successful, economically strong, educated reserves and I agree with them, that's the way....not blocking a highway.

Exactly, just like the Batchewana FN did last week with the wind farm (though I disagree with any form of green energy proppled up by the gov't). Where I am torn, is that sure you say today you lost $150,000,000. It would have been wonderful if that would have been the number had they been able to fish it. However how can we be sure that they would have fished it and fished it effeiciently to sustain it or even to make a profit?

I feel for you. I know what it’s like to have rights and privileges removed e.g. the 1947 HEPC land grab for the Rayner transmission line; the MFN 1994 northern boundary land claim settlement north of Iron Bridge; the MNR prohibiting me from motoring to a lake that I have fished on since 1955; or the many hunting restrictions imposed on us since 1970.
If you are successful, the total impact for me is minimal and quite manageable at about $5.00. That’s not too much… what… 3 double-doubles, or a little less than 4 litres of gas, or a burger and soda, or 40 minutes idling at a road block?
Or put another way, $150 million for the loss of a fishery at the Sault Rapids for 107 years equals about 5 years of government payments to one James Bay community, or the cost of 1.5 F35 jet fighters.
Your suit is quite reasonable, I’d say.

Ihave a problem with the white fish claim, as i sure many do. I rember seeing nets set at the mouth of the Echo Bay River, catching evey fish going up, I have seen nets in small inland lakes , set by the natives , the lakes ended up being fished out of pickeral.. I rember a few years back the ministrey finding a load of fish left to rot at a dump by Montreal River. The fish had been left in nets to long and where no good.Once again was traced to natives. Then they claim its about white fish .. Why would they take this money and there chief says to build a fish plant.. Ok if all the fish are gone as he claims what are they going to build a plant for??? It all comes down to money grab... And buying votes.. He also has aproblem with the developement along the river caused this problem.. Who do you think payed for the roads he drives his vehicles on, the hospitals his people use the schools etc. the people who worked at these places and payed taxes. I think its time he stops talking out of both sides of his face,, Tell it like it realy is its all about MONEY AND VOTES, nothing to do with your people...maybe its time to start looking at yoursefs , you can not blame the white man and Goverment for evything that has happened ..

Throw in some sea lamprey and pacific salmon (to feed on the fry), a preditory smelt species (oops got that one wrong hey gov?) and there you have it...no fish left and it was at this time they handed the commerical fishing licences over to the first nations and said "here now you can fish..." Some of the family names that raped the resource unsustainablly are still very prominent here in the Sault, rarely do they speak of how they made their fortune. But hey why not blame the damn indians, you did it to the jewish people!

Well TankGirl, it's great that other people are able to become defense attorneys. Mr. Mullins-Johnson being free from prison is at the hands of a defending attorney. Otherwise he'd be rotting in jail for a crime he didn't commit. How about Canadian firearm owners who are wrongfully & violently arrested by the RCMP out of the blue for "being a public threat" when they abide by every law set forth. They just beat the living daylights out of people, lay charges and ask questions later.

Mullins/Johnston was not released due to the work of a defense Lawyer.
He was released due to the sloppy work and record keeping of a Pathologist.
Bit of a difference.
A crime was still committed.
It just brought into question who really did it.

I stand corrected.
I had not read that they had concluded the death was due to natural causes.
The W-5 show that I watched focused on the shoddy work of Pathologist Dr. Smith but I did not recall them making a finding of natural causes in the death.

I was following a story in the local paper on a nurse, Niki Maione, had been fired from her job due to an accusation by a fellow worker that she had struck a patient.
The patient was suffering from dementia and was know to be belligerent and strike out at times.
My question is (I was surprised that she was fired from her job based simply on an accusation)would your union not protect nurses from being fired based simply on an accusation?
The last I read on it the trial was to continue (that was in December) but I have not read anything on it since.

I call them "the angels in comfortable shoes".
I spent some time in the hospital due to an auto accident.
Once the Dr's job is initially over and you are left to mend these dedicated nurses are unbelievable in what they do for you.
At a time when your dignity is left at the door they make you feel like everything is O.K., your ass sticking out and sh*tting in a metal pan is somehow normal. LOL.
It is one of those jobs that I could never do but I say God bless those that do.

nurses do have union.. there must be more to this story . If there was obvious mark on the patient then there has to be disciplinary action. She can certainly appeal. First priority is patient safety. It is difficult dealing with aggressive dementia patients but there is never any excuse to strike or harm these unfortunate individuals.

Sorry.that is what I read in the sault star that he swore at nurses and hit them.Maybe we shouldn,t believe waht they said at court.I always found good and bad in nurses.I would say by far better!Some bad cases of neglect as far as cleanliness as I have witnessed in my own mothers care.

you know it is funny but I have a fabulous day when one of my long time patients has a good crap(sorry B.M.)
When I have a shy or nervous patient and I am doing personal care I talk about everyday things .. like my car or my daughters horses or about sports.. just to take their mind off the fact that i am touching their??? or slapping on a pair of gloves to ??

my mom went to tje hospital this week. she is 89 years old. waited two hours for doctor. he asked her why she took ambulance. none of his bissnce. he wasnt paying for it. i wish i was there then. she has phemonia/ send her home. the drug store could not beleive they gave her pills and her home. they said your wife is very ill. now she wont go back. the pills dont agree with her. what a sin.

The story just made me wonder how this women could be fired based on an accusation.
We have all read about police officers and teachers, for example, that have been accused of something and put on leave with pay.
I was simply trying to get a straight forward answer as to the way the nurses union protects their own.
I have another source so I will check it and let you know.
