I find it interesting that Harper's policies are starting to take a strong hold in this county as right wing rightfully asserts.
It is also very interesting that the world bank and other world economists have stated within the past couple of weeks the world is coming out of the downward spirial and becoming more stable.
Even more interesting is the fact that our banks and credit unions have been down graded which will have a huge ripple effect in our economy. So as the world turns around, Harper's polices brings us down.

Its so unfortunate that we who do not support the Idle No More movement must hide behind computers to share our thoughts.
I would love to organize a blockade at ctiy limts to keep them from coming off the reserve.
However bleeding hearts aside I would fear for my family friends and myself. Clearly law enforcement would rather apease the movement to avoid confrontation. How would they react if it turned violent.
Law enforcement must step in and stop these before it does come to that.

it's easy for FN's out west to say let go of the treaties when they themselves have no treaty with the governments - while you are researching successful FN's perhaps you may want to google the Sawridge band in Alberta - they have been involved in gas and oil for a very long time but they also effectively prevented their own people from applying for homes etc... on reserve.

My rate seems to be between 25 and 27, depending on how much gas I use. I would suggest you check out rates with Union Gas before you do anything. If I had done that I never would have signed a contract.

Ok, been shopping around for apartments.
Yikes ! Horrifying doesn't even begin to describe the prices
2 bedroom on allard st $975
2 bedroom, heritage place $1,010
2 bedroom, lewis road $895
All these buildings are over 30 years old, some 40-50 years old.
I asked why so high.......... taxes have gone up, puc has gone up, and there will be several more increases to the rents each year due to puc skyrocketing.

As I see it the main problem with rw and Spelly's posts are that it also brings out the lefty neo-nazis along with the regular reasoned responses. The Sault Star had a series of 3 parts on the Native issues that was very eye opening. This should be read by all aboriginals who want to know what has been going on. The Chiefs of most Bands don't want any changes just more money. For the most part the poor leadership of the Chiefs and poorer money management have more to do with poor conditions on the reserves than any lack of money from the Federal Gov't. This post will likely be pulled too but I for one am sick of the Chiefs and council getting rich while their people live in terrible conditions.

Left Winger I'm in the Construction business, I have worked on Reserve, I buy material on Reserve and I don't believe in the Idle no more movement disrupting the people who they want to support them. Secondly they couldn't have picked a worse Poster Girl than Spense now could they? I also have no call to sell to on Reserve members. Now when folks on the Reserve wake up and figure out that it isn't Whitey who is sticking it to them we will all be a whole lot better off.

left winger,You will keep shopping at some outlets no matter what. The status card doesn't get you a discount at the licquor or beer store,does it?? The variety store next to Sewells doesn't take debit cards so you have to keep shopping off reserve regardless. Try getting Walmart to open a store on the reserve and see how far you get. I may be wrong but I don't think they have an outlet on a reserve,either here or in Canada.And white or indian,NOBODY gets by without Walmart...LOL...:)

where have you been? It has been posted time and time again that the 4 women who started the movement did not support Chief Spence and that a few chiefs have hijacked the movement for their own purposes.
I know there are several other posters on here that own businesses in town who have been very vocal in their displeasure at the movement so I'm calling them out to post their business so the FN peoples of both reserves will know their true feelings and stop sponsoring their business....
As far as I'm concerned they know full well what that would mean to their business... any guesses? remember there are no groceries stores, hardware stores,ect..so perhaps someone will now take the chance and open some of these businesses on reserve.
Maybe, just maybe if they had these services available on reserve there would be no need to leave the reserve thereby thwarting any attempt to blockcading them on their respective reserve....just saying is all..

Left Winger anybody with any smarts opening a business on the Reserve and willing to work at it will do well. There are many advantages to running a business there. That was also some of the advice from Chief Clarence Louie who has developed a multi million dollar Industry on their Reserve. He said get into business and take care of that and forget this 150 year old nonsence. I think the bottom line is the Gov't is in debt, the taxpayers are stretched to the limit and the well is going dry. Best thing the Natives can do is elect a Chief who will be progressive and not chasing pie in the sky claims that no one can afford.

Brianne, I don't know what you are paying now but there are apartments in the east end going for around the $600 mark. They are not all as high priced as what you quoted. Mind you there are not elevators in the buildings.

What is wrong with our justice system when a trashy loser like this gets away with something so horrific. She spent 572 days behind bars with hope for her freedom and she got it. She never had to serve a day as a convicted criminal, rotting behind bars and being a lifers b%#ch while thinking about what she had done.
Sault Ste Marie now gets to walk the streets with this 22 yr old, drug addicted, drunk of a grade 10 educated waste of space. I hope karma has a mean streak in her that unleashes something horrible on this little girl.

Fear and intimidation justifies her actions? Please. She chose her friends, chose her life and never had the balls to step up and face her maker. Other people were there that didn't assist in any way. One step up on the ladder of wrongs that happened that night. She chose to participate.
She also has shown no remorse, smiled while she was getting off and when asked if she had anything to say she said " No thank you". Not even a sorry for what has happened, wish I could go back and change things. Nothing. Not to mention Wes saved her life once not long before this occurred.

tank girl... I know a lot about the Homalka case.. the point that I was trying to make.. is she got away with it because she cried fear and intimidation and it worked even though she participated fully in the abuse and probably the killings as well.
The young lady in this case.. only cleaned up after the crime was committed and you do not know what state she was in and what kind of intimidation she faced. Do you believe for 1 minute that she would have been allowed to leave there if she would have screamed for the police or left alone if she left and ran to the police. We may have had 2 bodies for the city of Sault Ste Marie to deal with. And like I said I am not saying it was right what she did. But I don't know and things are not always black and white.

Sweetc - Holmolka cried abuse and struck a deal before the video tapes were discovered and it was too late to retract her deal. She was a liar regretting she got caught. She raped and murdered her own sister which was entirely her idea, plan.
Again, this girl made the choice to continually surround herself with these low life's knowing very well what they were capable of and chose to stick around. The pre trial of this case has made it very black and white actually and shows how low this girl sunk in her life. These guys didn't hide how dangerous they were, they didn't hide what they were capable of and amongst them it was well known there was a beef between Wes and them. she thought it was cool to be a part of that lifestyle. She made bad choices that put her there and no excuse is sufficient to feel an ounce of empathy for her. She sat downstairs for hours knowing full well what was happening upstairs given the background of the people involved. Again, others chose to leave and she could have too instead of going upstairs to witness it.

Are you on the geared to income housing list? i know it is pretty long though but they might fast track you if you are living in an unhealthy place.

3 year wait and we wouldn't qualify anyway ( my son and I). I'm just thinking future wise as my son ( 21) could decide to move out anytime or move out of town, who knows, gotta go where the work is :(
