Good morning sweet Soo! Up early re-hydrating as I gird my loins of a Day at the barn (SAH). Damn I will miss the grand opening of the PUC glass cathedral. Question from all you builder types? The suites move their lips and say the building is green. What is the "R" number for all that super duper gas filled triple glazed glass facing the street. A standard wall shoots for what R20 to R40? Without my knowing it has glass surpassed insulated walls?
anabanana 1/28/2013 4:40:56 AM Report

Good morning Skipper Dave, I am on my way to my bed now. Do you rise early by habit, or do you like the quiet if this particular part of the day?

My Dad, told me, on more then one occasion "if you lose the morning, you lose the day"

Have a great Day.
RLE 1/28/2013 5:36:09 AM Report

Skipper Dave: I assume they put in all that glass because it lets in more light to reduce the amount of electrical lighting. Of course if one were a cynic one might believe they did it to compensate for all the dim bulbs that run the palace

Skipper Good morning.
RE; Triple glazed glass windows ,R value at best is R13,however they play a little mind game and advertise this way triple glaze windows is like going from R20 walls to R40 walls sounds better..Obviously they are better than double glaze and better than single pane.

In 1982, the median income of the top filers was $191,600 or seven times the median income of $28,000 for the other 99 per cent.

By 2010, the median income of the top filers increased to $283,400, about 10 times the median income of $28,400 for the rest.
The above is from the Canadian Press. Does anyone else see anything wrong with a picture where the Median income of 99% increased by $400.00 in 30years and the median income of the top 1% increased by $90,000

The best R-value of a triple pane low-e with argon gas is about 8.5.
Don't get hung up on the R value.
What makes these windows popular is their ability to allow U.V. rays into a room in the winter allowing for heating and reflecting them out in the summer aiding in cooling.
Has to do with the sun's angle during the different seasons.
Heat loss through convection is completely different than heat loss through a cold draft via an opening or a bad door or window seal.

Are you making an insinuation that those that had an increase in income did so somehow at the expense of those that had less.
Also are you stating that 99% of the total wage earners in Canada made an average of 28,400 in 2010.

Seems to me that many posters who comment continuously in a negative manner in almost everything in life (ie., politics, money, rich people, those that have and those that want, religion) must be living a very unhappy life. Do you never see the glass half full or is it always half empty?

There are many of you whose comments I now just scroll past - all doom and gloom, and apparently, lots of envy.

Unfortunately many have become whiners in a country that offers much opportunity.
Peering over the fence and then comparing what your neighbor has that you don't has become a norm.
Forget that the gains that another has made is a result of their hard work in life...the mind set is you should have it too.
Look at the younger generation they believe it is a right to have a computer and a cell phone.
Nobodies fault but us parents for "giving" it all to them.
Making them work for it?
What a silly concept.

Depends on how you look at the glass,it's half full and I drank the first half, another half to go,optimistic,or half full and I drank the first half all I have left is the second half, pessimist.

Wicket 1/28/2013 10:39:49 AM Report

I am a very optimistic person, try to always see a positive side to almost everything; move on when negativity starts to drag me down (or if I can't 'fix it'). Wonder if more people refused to put up with it in their lives, if things would change for the better.

As far as the glass half full or half empty, if it is half full, and you have enjoyed the first half, you know what a good thing you have left to look forward to. If you see it as half empty and the first half wasn't so good, you again, will not enjoy the second half. - vicious circle - step out.
right wing 1/28/2013 10:43:25 AM Report

The real difference is there are those that enjoy both halves of the glass and then go out and fill it again.

Half full, all empty…. Use It or Lose It…. A Legend In Our Time

Many, many moons ago, the inhabitants of Turtle Island had a table. On that table sat a container that was full of sustenance. Every day the inhabitants would add to the container so that it was always full.

One day, people from across the pond, The Visitors, came to Turtle Island, took the container and dumped half into a container they brought with them, leaving the original container on the table.

The inhabitants were saddened that they now had a container that was only half full.

Using the half they borrowed, the Visitors drank some to survive, then used the remaining to mine, log, mill and cultivate. The proceeds of the mining, logging, milling and cultivating was used to replenish their container to full again, and the cycle continued, even adding to the original container on the table, until it was also full again.

To this day, The Visitor’s container is constantly used and replenished; not so much for the container on the table.

right wing...okay we get it about chief Spence.
So does anyone who follows the story.
Are you using this as an example that while she might not be the poster girl for peaceful protest then somehow the Idle No More movement is a fraud?
Most of us realize that Nelson Mandela was flawed, Martin Luther Ling was not perfect and Bill Clinton liked oral sex.
We also realize that Santa Claus is a myth.
But that does not diminish the first three's causes nor make Christmas a bad idea. It just makes them human like all of us and kids happy.
I also understand that you think global warming is just a cycle of nature, Al Gore is a wacho and unfettered capitalism is the route to prosperity, proof that God loves our gene pool and that all poor people could change their lives by embracing a stronger work ethic.
I happen to believe that the five women founders of the Idle No More movement are important people in our country's history.
Just because one apparently flawed leader is getting more publicity than the others does not diminish the cause.
It just reinforces to we adults that all of us are less than perfect.
You have made a hobby out of pointing out the nature of our human condition but ignoring those in your icons while showing little humanity yourself.
Spence isn't perfect but she at least is shining a light on a bigger problem.

right wing 1/28/2013 3:11:27 PM Report

Do I believe the I.N.M. is a fraud.
Yes and No.
I believe that there are many folks partaking in the protest firmly believing that what they are doing will make life better for First Nations peoples.
I also believe that there are many more that use these movements, Chief Spence for example, for reasons that are less than honest.
They use their own people as pawns to cover a system that is broken and they do not want fixed.
Do I really have to answer that.
TankGirl 1/28/2013 3:12:48 PM Report

Was just curious. I am looking at Batchewana Band spending and find it odd that they would post $60,000 bail for Kayla Elie one of the accused in the Hallam murder. You misunderstood. . When I said "I am looking at Batch spending" I poorly worded the fact that I am not looking at FN funding/spending overall but looking at Batch specifically so readers wouldn't broaden my comment to all FN spending.

-- An interesting read. --

An Australian dentist wrote the following editorial to help define what a Canadian is, so they would know one when they found one.
A Canadian can be English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. A Canadian can be Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, Arab, Pakistani or Afghan.A Canadian may also be a Cree, Metis, Mohawk, Blackfoot, Sioux, or one of the many other tribes known as native Canadians.

A Canadian's religious beliefs range from Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu or none. In fact, there are more Muslims in Canada than in Afghanistan . The key difference is that in Canada they are free to worship as each of them chooses. Whether they have a religion or no religion, each Canadian ultimately answers only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

A Canadian lives in one of the most prosperous lands in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms which recognize the right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

A Canadian is generous and Canadians have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.

Canadians welcome the best of everything, the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services and the best minds. But they also welcome the least - the oppressed, the outcast and the rejected. These are the people who built Canada .

You can try to kill a Canadian if you must as other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world have tried but in doing so you could just be killing a relative or a neighbor.

This is because Canadians are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, can be a Canadian.

And who cares? I live in Canada where my Prime Minister cares. :{

I will gladly slap on a pair of gloves and administer the "douch" to some of these guys. Of course, I will have to use an alternate "orifice" from the norm :) bahaha

Sparks, I was surprised myself to see that come from someone who supports the Occupy movement. You never know where you might discover pertinent facts being stated. I don't close my mind just because I don't believe in the underlying philosophy. The guy made a good case and provided some great charts so I thought I would recommend it in spite of the banner in the left hand corner. I still don't plan to take up with rabble rousers littering the streets, most of whom have no idea why they're there.

i was curious to see where else they spend their money..same with every band in Canada. i too agree that ALL financial statements be made public so ALL tax payers can see where their money goes and ALL natives can see where their band funding goes.

This information came from the bail hearing in Jul 11 of which court documentation is readily available to the public,"

Bail hearings are closed to the public. How do you get access to the information? Did you actually see it?
realitycheck 1/28/2013 9:29:54 PM Report

Do you actually think a U.S. secretary of state is going to clean up the trouble spots you mention? You know better or at least you should. Even most Republicans are crediting Clinton with having done a good job. It is only ideology that keeps you from agreeing because you certainly don't know personally anything she did or didn't do.
Wisenheimer 1/28/2013 9:42:59 PM Report

Correct your Flyness .. you can't explain what Hillary has done to warrant the adoration. Just chalk it up to the old thrill up the leg phenomena that lefties get now and then. A few secretaries with real accomplishments were names like Rusk, Acheson, Cy Vance, Kissinger. You know, actual diplomats.
BIG BROTHER 1/28/2013 9:45:13 PM Report

While all the experts are figuring out where the 'native' money went, how about looking into why the new fighter jets, McKay and the boys are 'sucking' us into believing we need, have doubled or tripled in price. Where did this money go. While we're holding feet to the fire, let's put them all in there. Quit going after the easy, indefensible targets (like a bunch of bullies) and go after those who like to spend your money like drunk sailors....the politicians.

Or how about McGuinty's gas powered electric plants. Do they not qualify for scrutiny. We should all be up in arms, but while we are busy hunting the wrong scent, the scoundrels are getting away with the chicken coop!!

Realitycheck - not true.

The Crown announces its position to the court and defends its position in a number of ways.
The Crown will either call witnesses or read in the police background about the client. This information can be challenged or contradicted by defence witnesses.

In both cases the "public" would or can be present.

Wisenheimer 1/28/2013 9:48:10 PM Report

Reality, funny how neither you or "fly" can name any of Hillary's accomplishments. So who's the ideologue.
Give me one and I'll reconsider.
BIG BROTHER 1/28/2013 9:52:58 PM Report

She didn't drag the US into a useless war. Or lie them into one either!! That's huge when you compare it to her predecessor.
BIG BROTHER 1/28/2013 10:17:22 PM Report

Hillary's accomplishments were overshadowed by the financial mess the country was left in. Dubya couldn`t quite get out of the White House quick enough; the stink was all over him before he moved out. Two useless wars and an economy in the dumpster.

`Mission Accomplished`

BB ... Heard it all now! George Bush's fault Hillary was such a lousy Sec. of State. Still no accomplishments coming from the peanut gallery? Just one!
