Flyhawk, I feel that I have a pretty legitimate excuse for my error. You see, last summer I spent quite a few hours engaged in the job of BALING hay with my grandson. Now, that job was so hard on this old spellchecker that I can't get the word out of my mind,
BALING, BALING, BALING............
and on and on it goes
lol

Good morning sweet Soo! Spelly I spent the summer dreaming of sailing and my word was Bail.
Your name came up in conversation - the misses and I are getting a spelling tutor for my Stepson. He is bright and in school his spelling has never been corrected. In my rather passionate discussion with the school board they maintain that if he reads the spelling will be absorbed. Well here we are in grade eight, the boy is a voracious reader and cannot spell, not even at a grade four level. The parents are stuck with the mess I was wondering Fly if I should submit the bill too the school board?
Any truth to the rumour that if Davey does not get a cabinet post he's jumping to the NDP?

Openly gay woman to be Ontario's next premier
People across Ontario are waking up today to a new chapter in the history books.

The province's governing Liberals have picked an openly gay woman as their new leader and the province's next premier.

Okay so after months of screwin the pooch the liberals have finally picked a premier.
Wow a lesbian too boot! How revolutionary !
Can anyone tell me where her sexual orientation and preferance of sex partners stands out as a quyalification for the job???
Maybe I'm old fashioned but I don't give a rats arse about who or what the premier is boinking.

AceOfBass 1/27/2013 8:17:33 AM Report

Grace McGuinty was boinking the taxpayers,Maybe Wynne will leave us taxpayers alone.
Spellchecker 1/27/2013 8:38:34 AM Report

Yes skipper, it is indeed a crime the way they ignore spelling in the modern educational system. Just another cog broken in society's wheel of regression.

Any bets on how soon and which one of the neo-con pundits on here will make a stupid reference to Ms. Wynn's sexual orientation?

Fly..it already happened...see the post above by Grace.
Spellchecker 1/27/2013 8:44:01 AM Report

Having said that, I have known a few very intelligent business people from the old school who can't spell a hill of beans. It's just not a skill available to many people but I still think the schools should provide instruction in it. There are more people around these days that can't do it.
shakespeare 1/27/2013 8:46:45 AM Report

Yes, Spelly, I find that particularly gauling, too. Who is on hand to help bale out these poor kids?
Spellchecker 1/27/2013 8:47:27 AM Report

Stupid reference number one here. What abnormality do you want to put in charge of the province next?
Spellchecker 1/27/2013 8:49:29 AM Report

Okay shakey, you got me * . I hang my head in shame but not for my previous comment.
Spellchecker 1/27/2013 8:57:54 AM Report

Shakey, did you happen to check out the url I posted above? I know you're not too fond of the Telegraph but it's true that the EU is about to restrict the free speech of journalists. Do you think that will be a very good idea? If the lesbian gets to run our province there's a good chance my free speech could get cut too if she decides to send me to the "Human Rights Tribunal" to improve my attitude.
flyhawk25 1/27/2013 9:03:28 AM Report

Bit of a logic lesson for a Sunday...a lesbian could be a moron.A moron could be a lesbian.
But a lesbian is always a lesbian and a moron is always a moron.
Look it up.

Any bets on how soon and which one of the neo-con pundits on here will make a stupid reference to Ms. Wynn's sexual orientation?
Fly so.. the libs are focusing on her sexual orientation not her qualifications and no one is allowed an opinion?
Cons aren't the ones that are making the issue..libs are!
shakespeare 1/27/2013 9:16:28 AM Report

Yes, I read it Spelly. In the wake of all the press scandals in the U.K. there has been much discussion about who should monitor whom. The protecting of "European values" thing is a little disturbing though, don't you think, especially as Europe has a very enlightened view of homosexuality?
As for "abnormalities" leading our province what about someone with common sense?
RLE 1/27/2013 9:40:50 AM Report

Grump 1/27/2013 9:43:29 AM Report

Well there went any hope for Sault Ste Marie re Provincial help. I guess we should all send Gerard Kennedy a huge thank you for now having the record for screwing up the candidate voting at both the Federal and Provincial levels. Thanks Gerard you grinning jackass. The upside is that Wynne may be well qualified but won't be around long. Have a great day all.
flyhawk25 1/27/2013 9:46:11 AM Report

Grace...obviously I can't speak for all what you call 'libs'.
Frankly I had forgotten that about Wynn and don't think it any more of an issue than Romney's religion.Or the fact that both Clinton and Obama are left-handed.
Who cares?
I want reasoned, fair and temperate leaders.
A good example would be Bill Davis. I never voted for him but had a great respect for his steady leadership.
Twenty five years ago I lobbied all three provincial leadership conventions.I came away with a respect for Sheila Copps but knew she was doomed because she was too caustic.
In the end politics is as much about timing and luck as it is anything.
Do I think Ontario is ready for Ms. Wynn? Nope.
But then again I was astonished that McGuinty won and predicted this current mess.
The guy isn't a leader.

flyhawk:
Ontarians may surprise you. If Wynne loses the election, it will not be because they voted against someone who is gay; it will be because they voted against the policies of McGuinty, just as Canadians did when they blew off Kim Campbell because of the policies of Brian Mulroney

"Stupid reference number one here. What abnormality do you want to put in charge of the province next?"

Spellchecker:
What abnormality? Are you actually saying what I think you are saying? If so, your intolerance certainly shines through, something I can't say is unexpected. flyhawk treats you with a certain deference otherwise I think he would have called you on this.

If I understood your rhretorical question correctly, there are all sorts of possibilities out there for a novel head honcho to run the province: e.g bestials, necrophiles, pedophiles, sadists, zoophiles, etc., etc., etc., etc. It’s all a question of taste.
Incidentally, one of the big issues in France today is the Leftist government’s plan to introduce legislation to legalize same-sex marriage, to be followed later by legalizing adoptions by same-sex couples. “Mariage pour tous (Marriage for everybody)” is the government’s Maoist buzzword for the operation. Strangely enough, the President, who is already the father of four illegitimate children by his former partner is now openly sharing his bed with a new twice-divorced partner as “First Lady,” with no wedding bells being announced for the foreseeable future. (It will be interesting to see how Elizabeth R. handles that “état des choses” when he inevitably comes calling on an official visit in keeping with a time honoured British-French tradition.) Meanwhile, unlike Mitterand when he took over in 1981, the members of the present government found the coffers of the state to be quite bare when they arrived in office and have so far done little or nothing concrete to right all the economic wrongs they bitched about constantly when in opposition. But what the Hell? Electoral votes are what they are and , like money, they have no odour no matter who is casting them.

mallet 1/27/2013 11:25:43 AM Report

Flyhawk25..

I would like to think that a person's sexual orientation would/will not be a factor, just as Romney's religion was not supposed to be a factor, but I still think it was and will be Wynne's too. Personally I did not even know until the Mayor of that city out west stuck his face in the camera and told everyone. According to statistics some 10% of the population are GLBTG, so she can count on their vote which leaves us with the other 90%. How sure am I that Ontario is ready for a Woman who is a Lesbian as Premier, not being a betting man I have grave doubts that it is.
flyhawk25 1/27/2013 11:30:48 AM Report

Thinking about the interim premier of Ontario the Beautiful and now suddenly Ontario the Diverse I realize that I know less about Ms. Wynn than I know about most politicians. Here or the US.
My sense is that what is seen as a natural progression in the GTA does not get that vibe at the Timmy's in Timmins.
And therein lies the dilemma.
Add to that we probably know less about our elected school board than the mail carrier at our door.
Yet the province and the school boards control a significant part of our tax dollars.
Bad Dawg 1/27/2013 12:01:51 PM Report

My pick is the one that doesn't do the job for the money, social status or puts power in the wrong hands. Our Elected Officials should not be paid small fortunes!! Then we will see who is politics for the people NOT THE MONEY!

And she will no different as any man taking their girlfriends out to NHL, Grey Cups, rock concerts, THAT I PAY FOR!! never been screwed by a Lesbian before........ here we go!

skipper dave 1/27/2013 12:10:21 PM Report

Loose vs lose... boy this is one thing that I wish people would get right.

Lose vs Loose

A lot of people are mixing up lose and loose. In particular, a lot of people are writing loose when they really mean lose. Here are the definitions of the two words from my Penguin dictionary:

loose [lOOs] adj not fastened or pre-packed; not tied up or confined; able to move freely; not tight, not firmly fixed; not close-fitting; careless, inaccurate, vague; dissolute, immoral; not closely woven; flabby; (of bowels) inclined to diarrhoea; l. box stable or van in which an animal can move about; at a l. end uncertain what to do next; unoccupied ~ loose adv in a loose way; play fast and l. behave rashly or unscupulously ~ loose n release; on the l. free from restraint; on a spree; ~ loose v/t untie, undo; release from confinement or constraint, set free; detatch; fire (gun); shoot (arrow); (eccles) absolve.

lose (p/t and p/part lost) [lOOz] v/t and i no longer have; be deprived of by accident or misfortune; mislay, fail to find; fail to get or win; be too late for; be bereaved of; waste; be defeated or beaten; suffer loss, become worse off; fail to hear, see or understand; cause or allow to perish; (of clock or watch) go too slowly; (refl) miss the right path; become absorbed in; l. one's head become flustered, panic; l. one's temper grow angry; l. one's way fail to find the right path; l. out (US) be defeated after a struggle.

Examples:

This knot is too loose.
Please do not lose my book.
I had better not lose that file.
One way to remember the difference between the two words is to think that "lose has lost an 'o'".

Conservative women really are anathema to you lefties, aren't they? Palin did a great job as the governor of Alaska and you can't stop picking on her even though she has departed from the scene. You guys are all for women's issues just as long as they follow the liberal agenda. If not they scare the daylights out of you.

Flyhawk25..

What is it with you and Sarah Palin? So the woman said she could see Russia from Alaska, it's quite possible you can on a clear day the distance is only about 50 miles, I mean you can see France from England most days of the year and thats 21 miles across the Channel. So she isnt the brightest brain in American politics, but there again who is? Mr Hope you Change or is it Change you Hope thinks that borrowing more is the way to go, I doubt you run your household that way. If you want Peter to pay Paul, you better have a real good savings plan to pay the Piper when the tune has ended. Besides as the old college saying goes, I wouldn't kick her out of bed to let in, say, Grump!!

Spelly: I hope Mrs. Spellchecker has not noticed this rather unhealthy "thing" you have for Sarah Palin, which has been in evidence for the past few years. I have been more a Condoleezza kind of guy!
Spellchecker 1/27/2013 9:27:48 PM Report

She knows, shakey. She even bought me her book. I can't make her jealous nohow.

Condoleezza's okay too.

I hate to admit it, but I used to have a closeted respect for Margaret Thatcher. She was refreshingly non-bullshitting and non-sycophantic (new pompous word for you, Sparky). She fell in love with herself afterwards and so she fell to her own party.
flyhawk25 1/27/2013 9:53:54 PM Report

Spelly...my reference to Palin was generic.
Let's compare her record with Hillary's.
Now.
Compare her to Margaret Thatcher.
In boxing parlance she would be 'in over her weight class'.
But right now the Republican party has finally started to figure it out.
They have some talented players but until they get over their hang-ups with tv ready products they will continue to ignore the solid politicians like Chris Christie in favor of air-brushed cut-outs like Palin and Romney.

Some people say you have to anchor Germany to Europe to stop these features from coming out again. Well, you have not anchored Germany to Europe, but Europe to a newly dominant Germany. That is why I call it a German Europe."

Margaret Thatcher

A lot of water has gone under the bridge since she said those words and anyone should now be able to see that she was right.
RLE 1/27/2013 10:17:30 PM Report

Spellchecker: Palin was/is a lightweight playing in the heavyweight division. She isn't stupid but was thrust into the national spotlight totally unprepared thanks to the impetuousness of John McCain. Condoleeza Rice is a woman to be admired as,among other things, one of the few bright lights in the Bush administration. Hillary and Condoleeza would make one hell of a duo on a presidential ticket. Of course, that will never happen
BIG BROTHER 1/27/2013 10:30:02 PM Report

Connie was a puppet for Cheney and Rumsfeld's fascist agenda. She gave the Bush presidency an air of progressiveness, being a black female; but she lacked authority. She was just way too happy to be there and wouldn't rock that boat for fear of being jettisoned back to where-ever the hell she came from.

Hillary, on the other hand, would make no bones about speaking up if she saw bullshit. She would/has called it as she see's it!! Obama actually listens to her.

Ha Shakey. You are full of gastroenteric words aren't you? Either that or you have a good thesaurus. On the bright side, you are helping to improve my vocabulatory skills exponentially I'm sure.

Let's see.
Many people think that the police are acting pusillanimously when it comes to native blockades.

Seriously ,Shakey.Who talks like that?

Sorry for coming across as vituperative the other night.I apologize.
