Good morning sweet Soo! Good morning Bounder.
Fulfilled one of my 2013 objectives. Got up the courage to phone one of my long lost brothers and reconnect. Spent considerable time thinking how to open and of course humour came to mind. "I asked for his help completing my 2013 wish list and reconnecting with him is on top". It had been a number of years and the first moments were awkward till we found common ground. Our kids and old age slowing us down. Now I'm not saying we are at the hugging stage but that gnawing at the pit of my stomach called guilt(guilt is a good thing) has disappeared. Jeez three more to go with a little maintenance on the ones that I've been close to. The moral of this story is you don't have to go home unless your ready if ever and I'm not sure there is a home to go to. My home is here, thanks Sault.

Growing up! - Come on Nanag it's just that simple eh? My dear sainted mother (devout catlick) may she rest in peace imparted the secret to life years before I hit puberty. You knew when to pay attention because the pearls of wisdom were preceded by a slap upside the head, much like a mason trying to get mortar to stick. Then the gems would be uttered and they were simple beyond belief. "Grow up, smarten up, don't be so stupid, if your friends jumped off a dock would you? Then there were life goals thrown in - "you want to end up like your uncle Jake the snake" (I rather liked Jake and the way he could roll a fag with one hand and not miss a beat talking.) But the most profound statement of all directed at a child with abandonment issues was, "I just don't know what I'm going to do with you?" Jeez that was a heart stopper.

That resonates with me as well.
Reminded me of the time I was having dinner in a restaurant with my best friend years ago.
He said that "you just did your father".
I had been talking about my then teen-aged son.
I had taken my glasses off, rubbed my eyes and said "That kid is driving me nuts!"
He was right. I sounded exactly like my dad talking about me at that age.

I kind of know how you feel about "catlicks" but isn't "guilt" one of their big cornerstones? On the other hand, I have certain relatives that the only reason I would go to their funeral, would be to take a leak on their grave. Even as we approach the end of this mortal life, stubborn is sometimes inbred, and many think I and he went back for seconds..

Lets see; what have I done for my country. Oh ya: got up for the last 40 years and gone to work so some ne'er do well can sit on her fat ... and whine about life. The public hasn't heard too much about the almost 9 million dollar stock portfolio held by Chief Spence and her weasley councillors yet because the MSM is keeping that out of the public forum. Also the fat fraud is no longer on a "hunger strike" now it is a "traditional fast" because she is eating pretty good (take a look at the latest pics). Looks like Rita McNeil on a good day. Maybe Grand Chief Charlie Angus could trailer her to the meeting with Atleo and Harper.

with all this crap and dirt talk about first nations and the so-called millions of dollars they receive keep in mind much of that money pays INAC wages. Bear in mind that the average person in Toronto (non first nation) equates to 24,000.00 per year federal funding through various social programs including medical, housing, and job creation. Our government only supplies 12,000.00 for the first nations per person. So tell me you racist losers why do they only get 50% of what everyone else gets? They pay the same taxes as you if they work off the reserve. Did you know the last residential school shut down in the 1980s? Thats right the 1980s not the 1880s. So shut the hell up put away your racist crap or go back to the country your inbred family orginated. Many of the first nations went to war for you and got paid half of what non indians were paid, they were some of the highest decorated in the forces (cuz you dumb asses considered them expendable and didnt expect them to come back but they did) When they came back from war many had to move out of their homes on the reserve to make room for houses for non aboridginal armed forces because they got funding for new homes. Ah yes the famous redrafting of the land claims and reserves oh guess you forgot about that...all your hate because you think they have a free ride through life, all this hate because you dont like the colour of their skin, all this hate because of your racist stereo types. OTTAWA–Prime Minister Stephen Harper has agreed to meet with First Nations leaders on Jan. 11, but Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence, whose 25-day hunger strike forced the meeting, says she will continue to abstain from food until the meeting actually happens.
Harper issued a statement Friday saying the meeting would be coordinated by the Assembly of First Nations and would focus on the treaties, Aboriginal rights and economic development.
“The government of Canada and First Nations have an enduring historic relationship based on mutual respect, friendship and support. The government of Canada is committed to strengthening this relationship,” said Harper in the statement.
An aide to Spence said she is aware of the announcement, but won’t end her hunger strike until the meeting happens. Spence also told her aide the governor general needs to attend the meeting.
Serpent River First Nation Chief Isadore Day said in a statement that leaders “are still reluctant to breath easy about what the process is and how it will affect future political relations between the Crown and First Nations in this country.”

Yahoo.ca posted the news item about the 9 million dollar stock fund owned by Spence and her councillors ( for the betterment of the tribe no doubt-sneery face). From what I just seen on CBC news at 5:00 p.m. it appears that Spence has grown another chin on her hunger strike (traditional fast according to the rest of the MSM). I just donated $200 to the Conservative Party. Canadians should start a grass roots movement- White Guilt No More.

Terry Malewski was just on CBC news channel and kept refering to Spences' "hunger strike" and how Harper has "caved in " to her demands. Harper is meeting with AFN chiefs (Spence was not invited per se) before the end of January. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail without the B.S. grandstanding of one dissolute loser who won't say where the money went. Even the people on Malewskis' hand picked liberal lap dog panel couldn't spit out the words "hunger strike" without grimacing. She probably won't show up at the meeting with Harper and the other AFN chiefs because it is uphill to Parliament Hill and because Force = mass x acceleration. It would take a Soyus booster to break that much inertia and move her up the Hill. Fish broth my ass.
Terry Malewski was just on CBC news channel and kept refering to Spences' "hunger strike" and how Harper has "caved in " to her demands. Harper is meeting with AFN chiefs (Spence was not invited per se) before the end of January. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail without the B.S. grandstanding of one dissolute loser who won't say where the money went. Even the people on Malewskis' hand picked liberal lap dog panel couldn't spit out the words "hunger strike" without grimacing. She probably won't show up at the meeting with Harper and the other AFN chiefs because it is uphill to Parliament Hill and because Force = mass x acceleration. It would take a Soyus booster to break that much inertia and move her up the Hill. Fish broth my ass.

I love the "Your a racist" no "your a racist" thing. Most people have racist tendencies but won't admit it. I was talking to a rather prominent first nation's person several years ago who admitted that first nation's people are just as racist as everyone else. "I would hate it if my daughter married an Italian" was the comment.

I've seen native women smirk and mock a red haired lady at a pow-wow.
I've seen intensity in Sault Ste. Marie.
There is hate, true that, there is also a fear of what people don't understand.
And that is other people.

I had the opportunity to speak with a local band elder today who told me that most if not all bands collect Treaty taxes based on the number of individuals that hold a treaty card, not based on the actual number of residents on a reserve.
So, when they claim a band of 1500, it's more like 1100 to 1200. And the chiefs wages are based on that head count as well. (I tried to figure out the math that determines chief salaries and, I'm lost. Even factoring in territory, distance from supplies,etc)
While our own Government is guilty of all kinds of misspending, it seems that the chiefs and bands are untouchable and in their own way, holding their people hostage with tales of atrocities that they themselves are guilty of.
Problem is, How do you stand up against your own band leaders on such a small scale? If there are only 1500 of you, the chiefs will know your attempts to act before you can blink and then you are shamed for your actions.
At the end of the day, they deserve more but, they need to press the issues in their own band councils and chiefs first. The Conservatives can't step in and point the finger (see Attawapiskat) without being labelled racist treaty breakers. There is nobody else that can help the band members but themselves.
We have more transparency with our Government (which is not enough to brag about by any means) than the band members do with their leaders.

Boy the mood is a little testy on here tonight
Are there any Shaw/Bell cable guys on here? My new TV is having distortion pixelization issues especially during fast action ...like sports.
Shaw guy gave me a new av cord for digital box thingy and that helped a bit but watching football sucks.(because of distortion) not because it's football :)
TV manual troubleshooting says that "is a low signal thing ,not the fault of the TV"
I am not a happy camper

I was pointing out the fact that there are no 'forests' there, at least no trees worth cutting for firewood '20 feet away'. If you look at the Google photos, you will note there is nothing taller than 20 feet.

It puzzles me.What kind of fish is Spence using to make her broth? Is it Pickerel or is it Walleye?If I was her I would use them extra big lake trout that are usually discarded by commercial fisherman..the kind they call "fats".
