Good morning sweet Soo!
Bounder, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and suggest that was an attempt at humour.
What if we were all pink but a portion of us folks were chronically impoverished, minimized, marginalized. Coming from physically, sexually abusive environments and due to circumstances, difficult and sometimes overwhelming to change struggle for solutions. Would you expect anger and contempt from your fellow pinks at trying to take little steps to improve your lot? Would you expect blame from your brothers and sisters for the mess your in? I can only conclude the problem must be we are not all pink then?
skipper dave 12/26/2012 7:37:52 AM Report
Alright lets start this day all over again. Good morning sweet Soo!
I've been moved to tears by some folks who have gone out of their way to help during these trying times. Neighbour down the road has shown up with his tractor and blower. Young colleague at work will be coming over to do the fall tune up on our blower. Well wishers dropping by. I've mentioned my sister in law adopting our two dogs into their existing pack of two while my beloved struggled with my illness. Surgery in Sudbury 21 days, complications from Sudbury surgery and hospital stay here. Did I mention she runs her own business and parents two of the nicest kids you'll ever meet. How to measure some people - I've had lots of attention and some of it not warranted. I'm not brave nor courageous. The real heroes are those who extend themselves in time of need. Where in hells name do you think my positive attitude comes from? My role has been rather simple - put one foot in front of the other and don't forget to breath. So my beautiful wife who made you the way you are and why was I so fortunate enough to bump into you? Karma? Don't know but your first spouse has become my very best friend (he doesn't know it) And to all the rest, the body cannot be separated from our spirit and from what I see there is hope for our species, for without hope there is nothing.

Hope to see some more new faces in addition to those we already know.

As I look around to my hugely expanded Christmas household, I thank God for the blessings he has given me and the new lessons learned through my adopted sons.
At the request of my children, my usual western over indulgence has shrunk to a modest, thoughtful, one gift each.
My usually spoiled biological children have made me very proud, spending Christmas day helping the less fortunate.
My Christmas table tonight has grown from the usual slightly stuffy anglo-saxon sitting for eight (my family) to nearly 30, my boys asking permission to invite various persons who haven't been able to fully enjoy the season.
Phone rings constantly. Someone at the door. Crowd around the kitchen table. Neighbours dropping off plates of food. A frantic search for extra chairs.
MY BEST CHRISTMAS EVER !

Pink Peony 12/26/2012 12:15:16 PM Report
Jimssm, you are an inspiration. I believe that in the journey of life, when you take your eyes off of yourself and make God number one, you begin to see more clearly, you begin to see that we are ALL part of the picture and by losing that self-focus, we are then in a position to do good for others without any expectation of reward. We do get rewarded though and that doesn't mean that it's a material reward. As you have shown, the reward could be watching the joy in others, watching the loneliness of others subside, even if just for a short period of time and watching the love shine through. If we don't let the darkness overtake the holiday ie. selfishness, drunkenness, self-pity, lies, it truly can be a time of pure joy and inner peace. That inner peace will carry on through our lives if we don't lose sight of what is really important in this life. Thank you so much for this reminder!! With God, all things are possible.

Wicket...I must send my regrets as well. The elevator in my building is still broken. That - some might say - matches my own personal elevator not going all the way to the top.
Consequently I must plan my five flights back and forth to the underground parking with care.
It will be repaired/replaced whenever my slum landlord gets a discount deal on something cheap. Like a dumb waiter run by a block and tackle.By then all of us broken seniors will be dead and they will shovel us over the balconies and put a fresh coat of lipstick on this pig and rent our apartments again.
So perhaps in the spring or whenever it is repaired.
Thanks for the invite.

Traffic will be stopped for 15 minute intervals every hour.
It's not the end of the world.
That was on the 21st.
Because there has been practically no news coverage of C-45, and the media has been silent, the demonstrations are necessary to raise awareness of the government's unfair policies that not only effect FN's but all Canadians. If you disagree with the Harper government's methods and ideology, you should be at the event also.

Northernmale....... because, WE, as Canadians, all of us, have the right to free speech and to protest peacefully !
All police agencies were notified, etc.
Everyone should be joining in on the protests, it is for the country, not just First Nations people. Do you want other countries coming in and buying up our resources and destroying them......... the waterways are all tied together, if one river gets tainted, they all get tainted... and so on. Do you want the Chinese companies to destroy that? And if Canada tries to stop them from destroying the land, they have the right to sue Canada !
Wake up !

Have posted under the news article and am also posting here, some insight please:
This is not intended to be a racist comment, so please do not take it that way.
I am just wondering what the tolerance would be if the protests were held on roads leading into and out of Ottawa. Would the RCMP, OPP and local police be out in full force prepared to stop the protestors.
Is this being allowed because we and Sarnia are small towns compared to the Ottawa area? Protesting in front of the Parliament Buildings does not disrupt much of anything.
Does anyone other than the local members of parliament even know that this is happening. Yes, it was on the CBC news the other day, probably most people just said "Where's Sault Ste. Marie, better them than us".
It is the same people in and around the Soo that are being disrupted, not the people that can and should be making a difference.
I just think it would make more of an impact if bigger cities were involved. Where are the First Nations people from those areas? Why are they not protesting?

Life is good.

Where's rw when you need him? Fly's broken elevator, surely there's some infraction, injustice that states Fly's means of egress be expeditiously repaired. Seniors can't do five flights of stairs. Jeez the Fly has to stop for a smoke break every landing. The tobacco is killing him. Is this the case of a landlord refusing to pay double time and a half for a stat call out? I'll be pissed if this leads to his demise.

skipper dave...not nearly as much as I would be.
Today marks the 25th in a row and 30th of 31 with no elevator.
To date we have no 'official' word from the owner - just a poor hard working superintendent who only knows that "they are waiting on a part".
The problem is the company who made them no longer exists and according to the original engineer who did the structural design on the building "it was a piece of crap then and it's just a matter of time before it dies".

Mr poster;Bad advice, the only action they will get that way is an eviction order. Read the landlord tenent act,the rent MUST be paid regardless or you are in violation of your tenancy. You can pay it in trust to an attorney and have it held pending resolution of the problem by the landlord as long as he is notified of it but you have to pay it to someone. The tribunal should have been notified of this by now and they can issue an order but if he can prove he can't get the parts it's all up in the air.
Where I used to be a custodian the elevator was down for replacement for upwards of three months and the landlord let anyone on the upper floors move lower or provided help to take stuff up to upper apartments for seniors. Some landlords just don't care,if you don't like it move,attitude..My last landlord was like that..

Reality check---What do you expect Obama to do ? The Republicans refuse to co-operate with him.
Obama did leave Hawaii early---by the way he was visiting his mother there for Christmas--He is now back in Washington.
The Senators already approved a Plan so why do they have to go back to Washington ?
The Republican-led Congress are the ones who need to co-operate but--in my opinion---they want Obama to fail !
If no plan comes forth from the Congress the American voters will turf the Republican Congressmen in the next election.
How is this going to hurt Obama--He can't run again and he has 3 more years to go.
The Americans will see who is the problem and will react to it next election.
If I were a Republican Congressman I would start co-operating--and quickly.

Well said, OG. I know several wealthy Americans and have met others and they really don't seem to get it. I believe that you are right about the future of the GOPs if they don't make some concessions. I have been talking to many friends and family in the U.K. and Europe during the holiday season and the consensus seems to be that the U.S. is becoming more of a pariah what with its shootings, NRA pronouncements and fiscal cliff ostrich mentality. Interestingly, almost everyone seems to have mentioned that Canada is the country most held up for fiscal responsibility. Whether or nor it's the legacy of Martin for the Libs or Harper's policies (probably not) we seem to be held in high esteem by those I know in the U.K and Germany.
BTW a great day for cross country skiing today. Also saw my youngest grandchild at 18 months ski down the bunny hill at Searchmont (with a little supervision). I support first nation rights however this is not the way to educate the public. This does nothing but separates the participants from the non first nation community. It creates hostilities between the two communities. It creates a volitile situation. It takes away from valid concerns it takes away from the cause. It creates enemies and anger from the ones that they need to help in their fight. The leaders of the first nations are wrong in their actions. This is not a playground. Peoples lives and livilihoods are at stake by this action. This group needs to grow up and start educating themselves and the general public before they cause someone to get hurt.

Oh crap what an oversight - Here I've been bitching and whining about Fly's dilemma of no elevator service for the past month and I forgot to pass on seasons greetings to our out of work member of parliament Dave. The legislation has been shut down since October as in there's nobody in there doing what they were elected to do so poor Mr. Orazoonie must be on pogey? Wonder how he is managing to get by? The scuttlebutt was Dalton closed shop to retire and take six months to find a new leader. Absolutely no truth to the rumour that he couldn't keep a lid on the debacle of the power plants so he took the bat, baseball, all the bases and went home leaving his loyal members without a job to report to. You have to admire Dave, even out of work he continues to sing the party song. Anybody but me notice a slight tick in his left eye? This from a guy who has been passed over for promotion twice - What a guy, what loyalty. Hey do you think Dave could help out with the elevator thingy, after all Fly's a retired teacher and all.
