....A Poem by Edgar Allen Quo....
(Abbreviated and shamelessly plagiarized version)
"Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of Sootoday frothiness,
Whilst I nodded, nearly napping, at the righty lefty quacking and forlorne dialogue...
....there suddenly came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door."
Tis some visitor' I muttered, maybe "rw" for his weekly leg shave `tapping at my chamber door ...
Only this, and nothing more.'
"Surely,' said I, `surely that is something at my window lattice;
Let me see then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore ...
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore; -
'Tis the wind and nothing more!'
Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter,
In there stepped a stately Duck of the saintly days of yore.
Not the least obeisance made he;
not a minute stopped or stayed he;
But, with mien of lord or lady, perched above my chamber door -
Perched upon a bust of Manzo just above my chamber door -
Perched, and sat, and nothing more."
"QUACK!".. he uttered...and nothing more
Much I marvelled at this ungainly Duck to hear discourse so plainly,
Though its answer little meaning - little relevancy it bore;
For we cannot help agreeing that no living human being
Ever yet was blessed with seeing a duck above his chamber door -
And the duck, sitting lonely on the placid bust, spoke only,
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Then, methought, the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer
"DUCK!!!.... I cried, `thy God hath lent thee - by these angels he has sent thee
Respite - respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Darlene!!!!
QUACK, oh QUACK this kind nepenthe, and forget this lost Darlene!!'
Quack quoth the Duck...... `Nevermore.'
And so the Duck, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Manzo just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a feathered demon that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted ......... nevermore!

makes me friggin angry, here we have the Federal government sending billions of our tax dollars to other countries when we have an epidemic happening in our own backyard.
I think it is time our generous governments start taking care of the basic needs here at home before throwing our hard earn money around like drunken sailors. Nothing pisses me off more than to think there are starving children and seniors....wish there were emoticons available... I would be gnashing my teeth....grrrrrrrr.......

Why do people only refer to seniors and children when talking about people who need compassion, etc. Don't the parent's of those children, or the children of those seniors deserve to be treated humanely too?
Left Winger, I don't like the way government works regarding that too but it's all about politics, looking good to other countries, etc.

Something to stir the pot over the hysteria of the Royal Pregnancy.
American media mania aside - what should they name this baby? It is time for some outside the box thinking...If it is a male let's name him Irving, or Chad, or Rory - which roughly translates to 'regal'.What about Elton? They already have a queen named Elton so he could be 'the wind beneath our wings'. I'm sure Diana would have approved.
If it is a female what about naming her Tootsie or Bubbles? Too common? Try Tiffany-Jo? How about Stanley? Too manly. Okay Sydney. Keep the Aussies in line.
But please - no more stuffy British monikers for this new monarch.Even Judas might work - keep the world wondering when he/she will turn.

I am all for the government putting forth more money for the food banks.......... but, create jobs, then there will be no need ! Regulate rents that have gotten out of control so people have a half decent place to live and can feel good about where they live and strive for better.
But then again......... there are the ones that abuse the system......... use all their money for booze and drugs and nothing for food, and walk down to the soup kitchen everyday to eat, and are happy with that.
There are several neighbours that party non stop, even get their beer delivered when it's a 2 minute walk to the beer store.......but yet have no food to eat.......they cause noise to the point of having to call the police consistently due to not being able to sleep when I have to get up at 5 am for work......... most times I get 2-3 hours sleep at night and have to work all day.
I know, i know, move , you say..... not when I have to pay double for rent and can't take my dog with me !

People don't self-destruct for no reason...there is something underlying that type of behaviour. Druggies and drunks need help too! There will always be poor people, people who are unable to function well in a job or whatever regardless of how many jobs are available out there. There will always be a need for food banks. The reasons are many and can't be generalized or simplified. Just because somebody has a job does NOT make them a better human being than those that do not work. There are a lot of crooks who have jobs and don't think twice about screwing others around (ie. stealing money through poor workmanship, over-charging, etc.) To me, they are no different because clearly they have issues too or they wouldn't be crooks!! Just because they have a job and money does not get them on a pedestal in my books!

Brianne, rent control isn't a long-term solution as it reduces quality and availability. The problem in the Sault is that the pricing for rentals is skewed - same with the price for homes. Both issues are the result of a lack of supply in the rental market causing prices to increase, which in turn causes more demand for homes in the under 200K market, which in turn drives up home prices. Compare rentals in the Sault to those in Toronto... sadly, there isn't as much difference as you would think.

Another interesting time at the border today. I had to pick up another package. There was no line up and I was greeted with a big smile from the young lady at the US booth. She asked how I was feeling, where I was going and when I told her, she mimicked my answer saying she loved an English accent, not that I think that mine is that strong. She then asked me about the U.K. and chatted about Kate's pregnancy. She let me go with "Have a jolly good day!" in her appalling version of an English accent.
On the way back over, no line up and I declared the $90 package of clothes that I'd collected for my daughter. "Have a great day, sir" was all he said. Sometimes you hit gold and other days you're treated like a criminal.
BTW: if it's a boy I think that it's high time that my regal name be brought back.

A public school teacher was arrested today at John F. Kennedy International airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a compass, a slide-rule and a calculator. At a morning press conference, Attorney General Eric Holder said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement.
He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction.
'Al-Gebra is a problem for us', the Attorney General said. 'They derive solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute values.' They use secret code names like "X" and "Y" and refer to themselves as "unknowns" but we have determined that they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country. As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."
When asked to comment on the arrest, President Obama said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes." White House aides told reporters they could not recall a more intelligent or profound statement by the President. It is believed that another Nobel Prize will follow.
