I spent considerable time this weekend reading blogs from all over the US.
Frankly I was surprised at how closely the radical views from them paralleled what is on here.
It caused me to think of three movements I am familiar with most recently: McCarthyism,the John Birch Society post Goldwater and the Tea Party.
In the first two instances reasoned moderation won out and I believe it will again.
In Canada we have recently endured the Harris Common Sense Revolution, the Reformers morphing into the Conservatives and Rob Ford's run in Toronto.
I found it interesting that in both Canada and the US military IDs list blood type and religion but never political affiliation.
We are simply Canadians or Americans.
I think that is what
President Obama is trying to get the country to see.
And our PM should aspire to as well.

was a huge fan of ther brick, got screwed by leons for 9 weeks waiting for a bedroom suite. went in a freaked out got my refund and went to the brick and slept on kickass mattress 2 days later. thats was 4yrs ago and have not set foot in leons since. they lost over 10K too boot!! Will give the brick one chance to still hold up their customer service.

Good morning all. This is an incident that happened in Holland Mich. to one of our Banttam hockey team. They have some girls playing with them. One had her head boarded, she was hurt, but not seriously, and when they complained about the vicineous of this attack, the coach said and I quote "Pussies" and we know what he really meant should be playing in a girls team. The Soo team did win that game, and when the teams were lined up to shake hands, this is what they were told "Close your legs we can smell fish". I thought that in this day and it is 2012 that discrimination was out the door. That coach should not be in the position that he is in. He is telling his players that it's ok. to make those comments. A complaint has been made to the MAHA. It's hopeful that this coach will be removed. By the way the Soo bantam team played in the championship game, work hard, but lost 3-2. We should be proud of them representing Sault Ste. Marie.

NEW STORY:
Good morning, it was great to see and to hear of so many taking part in Remembrance day Services across our great country.
I sometimes wonder how many Canadians are involved in the discussions in this room, as a lot of talk is about our USA neighbours.
Why no outcry about the stopping and selling of the ONTC? but a few locals wanting passenger service on a railbed between SSM and Sudbury that is really not safe for a hand car.
Not one word from any municipal body or from our MP's or MPP's about disbanding something that will devastate our whole Northern Ontario. Only the mayor of Timmins keeps on.
Not one word from any local municpality about our OPP being understaffed along the whole northshore. Why our MTO does not have our truck weigh stations open 24/7, even when they keep talking highway safety.
Only one Mayor that understands his people are at risk when travelling for simple blood tests in severe weather, to the point he has again declared a state of emergency.
And one more, no outcry from our local citizens about the closing of our parks by the Government, this is a slap in the face to every person in Northern Ontario, to anyone that has ever been involved with the Junior Rangers in any way, with any tourist related bussiness.
All to save money, but each day our prorogued Goverment is still announcing grandure giveaways.
There are many things to start discussing about our great area, is anyone interested, or would everyone on here just be happy talkig about something in the good old USA.

The OPP are understaffed because they can not get enough suitable recruits.The ONR got voted down because it has very little ridership and they were losing something like 3 to 400 dollars per rider. If everyone up that way wanted it so bad then why in the hell were they not using it more. We have lived fairly well up here for roughly the last 50 years with no passenger rail service. The Parks I agree on and expect if they didn't have dozens of staff standing around they could maybe afford to keep them open longer.

Not only are the Liberals closing down Northern Ontario, but now they are not going to keep going on the conversion of the Thunder Bay Power plant which is coal plant to natural gas. There are 15 more mining companies that are going to want power, and the Liberals say they will build new transmission lines, yeah, I'll beleive it whan I see it. All that money building a line, when all they have to do is the conversion from coal to gas.

If you remember when Mr. Bortolussi was in opposition, he picketed the Conservative who were in power at the time not to close down the Ontario Northlander. He is nothing but a hypocrite.
There are more than the Timmins mayor talking about this. At a mayor meeting not long ago, all northern Ontario mayors made their view known.
Also the MP from North Bay riding.

We need to get rid of the Liberals. We just can't afford them.

Methinks someone is trying to make a few fast bucks by scaring people, not that I wish to minimize the harm that Radon can do. I understand that one can purchase Radon detection devices at hardware stores and that Ontario is at very low risk.

"Within a week of U.S. President Barack Obama's re-election, citizens from 21 states have filed petitions asking to secede from the United States, according to the White House website.

Louisiana was first, posting its request on Nov. 7.

It was soon joined by Texas, on Nov. 9.

In asking for the president to "peacefully grant" permission for his state to withdraw from the union, creator Micah H., of Arlington, wrote: "To do so would protect its citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government."

Petitioners have one month to obtain 25,000 signatures in order for the president to consider the request.

As of Monday morning, Louisiana had 13,197.

Texas had 17,260.

The petition from Florida was created Saturday -- the same day the state finally declared Obama the victor in this election after another controversial ballot count. On Monday morning, it had 4,823 signatures.

The other 18 states with requests for secession: Alabama, North and South Carolina, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, Michigan, Indiana, North Dakota, Montana, Colorado, Oregon, New Jersey, New York, Arkansas, Georgia and Missouri.

All quote a passage from the Declaration of Independence that reads "whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government."


I do not recall this type of threat under any other President.

Yes the NDP did fight against it when it was brought up in the Liberal budget, however were not prepared to bring down the Liberal government at that time and sided with the Liberals to pass their budget which included the sell off of the ONTC. Pretty hard to say you dont agree, but then turn round and agree with the budget sell off,and then say "we fought against the sell off". They all just wanted to keep their jobs until the platinum pensions kick in!!!

Well........ I've been up since 5 am, to catch the 6 am bus to work......... the daily beer delivery has arrived next door, the stereo is cranked and the 6 month old puppy that means nothing to anyone over there now is chained up outside in the cold , barking his head off, looking for attention and warmth............ and i'm getting more upset by the minute.........this is the 5th night in a row now.........gotta love it, grrrrrrrr.

25,000 signatures ensures a response from the president.

Looks like any threats of secession would never materialize past a flash in the pan and an irritation to Obama.
Hell if one of them makes it they could be replaced by Puerto Rico anyway.
The voters there have sent a petition to the US Congress for statehood.

That link will give you all the updates on the #'s. I am neither for nor against the petitions, I find it rather interesting that people are taking such a stand........ but they better be careful what they wish for...... certainly don't need a country turning on itself.

Petitions are easy to sign, mark the x, done. If it ever came down to a fight, i bet 8 out of 10 would back down.

These petitions will have implications, and not good ones.

Sure, it's ok to state the dislike of the "power that be". But when it all comes down to it. How many would actually suffer and lose everything to create a separate state ?

Don't worry rw; when Harper blew the Liberals out of the water in the last election the wailing and gnashing of teeth by the lefties went on for weeks. I seem to remember Craig Oliver on election night trying to get his foot out of his mouth after proclaiming a Liberal sweep.

As I stated, from what I found there seems to be no far reaching power other than 25,000 gets a response from the commander in chief.
I agree that is does show the unrest in the U.S. but I'm betting it will go to the wayside.
The U.S. needs to come closer together, not further apart.

Please pardon my ignorance..and don't laugh.... but if this article by Elizabeth whoever is on track... why why why has the U.S. NOT been more into the oil business all these years? Why put up with all the crap from the oil producing countries? Is it because of cost? If I was a country I would think enough is enough and just go full tilt into producing my own oil and to hell with those other guys. I know I am politically lacking and I have been described on many occasions as naive..well very naive actually but I have often wondered why this side of the world can't take care of its own oil needs.
Now every body wipe the laughter tears out of their eyes and stop saying ...oh nanag you poor thing..

Passenger rail service ended in Northern Ontario because lack of use.It was a waste of tax payers dollars.Now having said that ....

Blame those NDP'ers the two face SOB's who supported the Liberal Budget.They are the ones who allowed this.

IF the lying Dippers had not supported the Budget the ONTC would still be around.

Also two have a look a the Northern Ontario Mayors outside of the Mayor of Timmins they all supported the Liberals.

The Mayors all have the power together to give notice that Northern Ontario is getting screwed over and they want to become the next province.They all are a gutless bunch with not a leader among them.

We in the North have all the wealth and these pinhead mayors don't see it.
