With Obama jamming the U.S almost 16 trillion dollars in debt maybe I'll slip across the ditch to gas up and buy a couple of Yankees. They should be going cheap right about now. Just ask Obama.

Last evenings post were an interesting, intelligent read, only one comment from a sand box hero. With any luck today's count will remain at one. Have a great day all.

Hey wait a minute!!! I thought we were supposed to be the 51st State!
Something else not talked about during the election.
Puerto Rico vote first step in making island 51st U.S. state
Referendum passed by 60%
Wonder if it will be actually acted on?
Now that would be exciting.

Grace...funny you should mention that.
My late wife taught primary grades her whole life and became bulletproof for most of the bugs.
However she'd inevitably bring some of it home and I had never built up the same immunity.
I caught them all.
Have you ever had a second bout of measles as an adult? Not fun.
And let's not forget all the really creepy things like taking round worm medicine.

Grump four years from now will be very interesting with both parties fielding new untried candidates.
Wonder if the Republicans will change their outlook and methods to get with the America of the 21 st century.
I still say they need a third party alternative that is in the middle of both. Problem is now you either vote right or left and if those don't fit your views...not at all.
Not too many options.
Wisenheimer 11/8/2012 11:48:25 AM Report

Eversons .. "deficit" .. When you are typing and a red line appears under the word it means it's spelled wrong. Right click on it and the correct spelling appears. You can then enter the correct spelling even if you haven't a clue what you are talking about.
Brianne 11/8/2012 11:52:18 AM Report

One of the "funnies" going around facebook this morning

It shows Obama on the phone with a cheeky grin saying

" So you want to move to Canada because I got re-elected and you hate socialized healthcare, marriage equality, and the separation of church and state.

I've got Canada on the line for you, and they can't stop laughing either."

Wisen, it's ironic that you choose to go after Everson's post by way of commenting on his/her spelling. You could work on your grammar usage ... Sadly one of the most articulate and thoughtful voices for the neo-cons has disappeared.
We are left with the inarticulate remnants of the anti-Obama group.
Another example of what happens in a void in the swamp - the leeches take over.

Perhaps Darwin was absolutely correct.
AceOfBass 11/8/2012 2:19:27 PM Report

Barack Hussein Obama the only reason he got re -elected is because of his skin color.
He just happens to be the worst president in History. He will see the USA plunge into another recession because of his bad decisions.
He made a bad decision on Benghazi that cost American lives, then tried to cover it up.
He armed the wrong people in Libya.
Syria he is sitting on the sidelines while
Al Quada is slowly taking over.
When is he going to stop Bush for his problems.Mitt Romney was right the 47% did not vote for him.It was more than he expected like 51%.
The Majority of Americans are Hispanic and Latinos and do not identify with Republicans. They identify with Democrats who have a more socialist agenda.
shakespeare 11/8/2012 2:25:43 PM Report

By way of an allegory: When I was at high school there was a kid who was a bit of a misfit and nobody had much to do with him. Someone noticed one day that he had an unpleasant body odour and it was pointed out to him. Rather than fix the problem, he seemed to wash less and less and, as kids pointed it out to him more, his smell got worse. You see it was the only attention that he ever got. In the end, he smelled so bad and seemed so happy that everyone just stayed away from him... and he drifted back into his own world.

Budster 11/8/2012 2:29:04 PM Report

The only way democracy works is if there is compromise. Sad to say that our neighbours to the south have a house that seems to have unlimited personal finances and little to no social concience. Until they start to work together the economy is doomed because there will be no jobs.
Canada's situation is not too far away from the same out come because of a tyrant who will not compromise with the house which eventually can lead to anarchy, which also leads to distruction.
One of the greatest lessons to be learned in a large family is the art of compromise. Mom and Pop do what they can to oversee the situation but the siblings learn to pick some battles and to let others slide, in spite of parental guidence. One lesson learned is that you will not win all the time. But the world does not end when you lose either.

Shaky I could live with this crew fading off into themselves or space for that matter. Also just geting a life and not acting like the Tea Party.
flyhawk25 11/8/2012 3:15:55 PM Report

Just read a print media report that the Republicans are in disarray over the loss of the POTUS job and no gains in the house or senate.
I was surprised for a moment - and then it hit me.
Why not?
They watched Bush pull them into how many wars with no exit strategy?
Why would I expect them to have a clear Plan B?
Their arrogance and failure to read 'the signs and portents' authored their own demise.
Now the next battle to get a bipartisan deal on the budget by year's end has been clearly articulated by the president.
The electorate has been educated and the pressure is on GOP speaker Boehner to get his people in line.
If he fails the electorate will put the blame on the GOP and even God and/or Governor Christie won't save them in four years.
All of their focus was on defeating Obama and now they are wandering in the darkness created by the Tea Party.
Time to work together or die alone.
Snobank 11/8/2012 3:16:35 PM Report

I suspect rw will return, at least I hope so. Unlike many of his compatriots he is intelligent and I enjoy his arguments even tho he generally advocates the tired old white man's position. He and fly make good polar opposites to group around. The level of vitriol on this site recently may have forced him to proclamations he is now a little embarrassed about although it's unlikely he will ever admit it.

Similarly, fly has surprised me by being less than gracious in victory although I can see how blobooby's idiotic brayings could drive anyone to distraction.

"Interesting coincidence how Obummer lost in every state requiring photo ID."

More than interesting, it is disgusting. This was basically designed to cut off those whose income doesn't put them into a place where they have photo ID, such as not being able to afford a vehicle so they don't have a driver's licence. It was a good try but it didn't work.

As to your claim about the lefties being angry, I think flyhawk is the only one who seems to be that way. On your end you have yourself, Wisen, Learningaswego, Ace, etc., continuing to snipe. The election is over. Why not get off it for another three years, until the next campaign starts. It will save a lot of you a lot of frustration. Canadians talk a lot about the lack of knowledge Americans have about our country. Any American reading this response column probably feels the same way about us.

should I knit the socks I'm supposed to be making OR should I work on the table I am making we could discuss patterns

should I take a nap before football game comes on? or stay awake and do something productive?

should I pretend I understand what all the anger with some people on here is about?

we could discuss bowel movements and how necessary/beneficial that is to our well being

or we could ??? hmmmmm gee I've already run out of ideas bahahahah

You see poking just make others poke back..
Romney lost the election.Tail between his legs not likely. I'd say the percentage of the country that vited for him was a sizable number and relitivly speaking not all that far apart from Mr. Obama. It would concern me as president to only win the popular vote on such a slim margin and not look at the victory as a mandate reflecting a job well done but 1/2 the voters did not want him. Can he improve this time round. Hopefully. Will the Republicans in the House change..hopefully.
Otherwise four more years of gridlock!

Explain to me who would not advertise what they are trying to do, next what have they cut back on Seniors, I hadn't noticed any change in my cheques to date. I have not heard that E I cheques have been reduced from what was being paid. Now if you are saying that people will have to wait an extra 2 years to collect, yes, but it does not take effect tomorrow it is being phased in over a number of years, and is being done in a lot of other countries as lots of folks are A. living longer and B. wanting to work longer too. I disagree with that idea as it has the effect of delaying young people a job. However, and here you may agree not a whole lot of young people want to get their hands dirty doing the jobs that both you and I did as entrants into the various trades. I am not ashamed to admit that I have drawn E I when laid off from the steel company, but because I have trade tickets I was not out of work for long, and I was willing to go where the jobs were available, not too many want to do that with a wife and kids at home, but that is a personal choice.

Mallet you missed the point maybe on purpose. He is cutting back on everything here. Ok the world economy is bad. That said he is running up a huge debt doing what? Who in the hell needs to hear this crap everyday at 55 plus million" Who needs two limos flown over to India. The country is being buried in debt, sold out to China and He is whizzing millions away on ego builders. I thought Mulroney was over the top but he had nothing on this one.
Bobby Nerves 11/8/2012 8:52:49 PM Report

The republican party lost the elections as soon as they suppressed Bobby Jindal and Christ Christie, as the real formula.

Bobby Jindal was the candidate to beat Obama, even before McCain lost the elections.

If you really think the republicans will resurface... don't hold your breath. And if they do, it will not be in the way you and I believe it should. There are a whole new generation of political values relegated for the ambitions of people like Gingrich, Palin, and the like.

If republicans are not prepared to change the essence of their policies, and are not ready to take distance, publicly and clearly, from the tear party, they will disappear.

The reduction of the anticipated voting time and the robocalls in Florida are part of the political resolutions that the republicans should avoid and of course, separate from the party all those responsible of such actions.

For those that believe the democrats are abusing the freedom of lack of identification, in my opinion they are wrong, it was a very close election with an army of legal teams ready to go all the way to fight the results, and by the contrary, the republican governor of Florida intended to help his own party eliminating the voting on saturday and sunday (voting in advance for 8 days instead of 15 as it always before) for those blue collar democrats; and the robocalls telling people that they could vote till one day after the elections... those are clearly politically motivated dirty tricks.

Okay. You say he is whizzing away money, you did not approve of the stimulus package that racked up billions? what was the opposition doing at that time? spend more spend more if memory serves me, so he did, now he is just whizzing away money.. As for flying out two armoured cars, Umm, in his position, I do not think I would want to be riding round in a "tata" in a country that is not seriously terrorist free. Now did we not have this conversation a while back about building new or renovating, so how much would be saved by refitting the ships that are to be replaced?? How many man hours does it take to build new, and dont forget those crappy submarines we bought from the limeys, not one has done a full tour yet as far as I know. As for the Aircraft, I would much rather have our own, designed and manufactured here in Canada, rather than buy from the USA, but I know the costs of developing one of our own and the same would probably happen as what happened to the Arrow, the next government would trash it. Now as for the 55 million on avertising, didn't another party do this once??? not that it is right but I don't know the cost ...
Bobby Nerves 11/8/2012 9:14:27 PM Report

In 2016, the Democrats will have Hillary Clinton as the nominated candidate.

The repulbicans will have to nominate one of the following, if they would like to be in the list:

Bobby Jindal, Chris Christie, Mitch Daniels, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Susana Martinez, Brian Sandoval, Jon Huntsman, John Kasich, Scott Walker, and even Paul Ryan.

Republicans will resist to modify their view on immigration and of course, they will only "tolerate" and hispanic, but I don't think I'll leave long enough to see the republicans voting for a hispanic, but as long as they resist, they will be extinct as we know the republicans today.

Sooner than later, the USA will be relegated to a second line in the world, a new world in which the USA will not be able to engage others for the game of war.

All the emergent markets/economies are not interested in power in the way USA see it and not even China represents a military risk for the world and of course in a much lesser degree, Iran.

If republicans refuse to treat people with respect and behave themselves, they better be prepared for a rude awakening.

Fortunately Canada has Stephen Harper to help Canada get through the next four years of Obama. It would have been nice to see Canada and the US become economic successes with Romney and Harper. Now Harper has a much tougher job keeping Canada an economic success while Obama further drags the US into an economic nightmare.

Bobby N..

I will agree with you regarding the people running for the presidents job. I do not think many of us old folk will be around then, however I will be honest I never expected a "black" man would get that job in my lifetime, so that could happen sooner than you think. Now as for Military, I think that sooner or later the Chinese will have a go, otherwise why would you need a standing army of over 2 million men? and there are other countries approaching the same number that the U S A has under arms. I think that Hillary will stand a good chance, but by then she will be a little long in the tooth, prehaps they could get someone from Playboy to run, now that would be a landslide, even the old white GOP would vote for her...
debo 11/8/2012 10:11:23 PM Report

@ Ken_W

I agree with your statement as regards the Repubs not being dead. I think however that you could specify to some degree who/what a resurgent GOP might represent.

I don't believe a Repub Party that tries to control or define the health choices available to women can be significantly resurgent.

A Repub Party that champions the cause of millionaires and billionaires isn't gonna cut it either.

I could go on ... but for the sake of brevity I'll just add ... that a GOP that appears to be beholden to the most rabid elements of the "Tea Party" isn't going to do well with the emerging American voting population.

If, on the other hand, the GOP frees itself from the apparent overbearing influence of these groups and returns to a more moderate but still right-of-centre stance then it will happen.

Additionally the Dems, or at least the extreme left-wing of the Democratic Party may over-play its hand and provide an easier route back for the GOP.

Your views on their way back may differ Ken_W. Do you wish to offer them?

Godosports, The Harper government has put all their eggs into the price of a barrel of oil and has totally forgotten about manufacturing. The economy may raise but there are no jobs with it. No employers hires someone unless they have to. Geez, certainly is funny now that oil has dropped $10/barrel to see Flaherty talking about a slowdown in the economy.
godosports 11/8/2012 10:30:30 PM Report

You are correct that the extreme left wing (OBAMA) of the Democratic party will over-play their hand, a very slight majority, making it easy for the good guys to get back in.

debo 11/8/2012 10:40:02 PM Report

It's possible ... but I don't see you addressing what the Repubs are going to do. Hoping the other side self-destructs as your only strategy is kinda "pie in the sky".
godosports 11/8/2012 10:58:33 PM Report

Somehow OBAMA and the media kept the attention off the economy and the GOP could not keep it a priority.
The only hope the US has is the House of Reps that can keep OBAMA`s agenda in check without harming the economy to much.
Everything Romney was selling was far superior to the status quo (going to regret that phrase)
The other problem is there are to many single issue voters. Apparently only 49.5% looked at the big picture this election.
