Right wing, let me help you out here with Oldie, even though I realize it is a grave error to jump onto his carousel.

Oldie, Romney and right wing are correct in saying that government does not create jobs, productive ones that is. They can only create jobs that rob the money of the productive people and take their incentive to produce away.

Government can, however, create conditions where the productive people find it impossible to operate, like the government that you seem so enamoured with presently.

Government can also theoretically remove those adverse conditions, as Romney would like to do, although once there they can be very difficult to get rid of.

Now that the hurricane has wreaked a path of distruction through the most populated parts of the U.S... FIMA has been mobalized. I've been reading the posts on CNN form the Obie fan club calling out that Romney is finished..Obie landslide.
Funny world view..the One is only following proceedures layed out..they act as if he is out there parting the sea's. Totally skipping over the fact that the One is currently president and has the authority under FEMA to mobilize said agency. He is not directing the efforts.
What can Romney do. Nothing. He has however working with others to organize relief efforts at the grass roots level.
This hurricane really took the wind out of the election.

statusquo 10/31/2012 7:43:52 AM Report

Spelly,

So in essence you are saying for governments to stay out of business and let corporations do what they do best?
Remove all regulations and safeguards and let the so-called "free" market economy do it's thing?
Isn't that exactly what happened after Reagan took over? A false boom in the economy, a rise that could not be sustained and sure enough it hasn't been able to sustain itself as we are clearly witnessing today, coupled with a ballooning of the national debt (look at the charts of government spending under Reagan's reign).
Bush senior actually turned the trend around somewhat and even coined the phrase "voodoo economics", disparaging his predecessors record.
Clinton kept it on an even keel somewhat but when Bush junior took the reigns it really fell apart.
And now you side with the folks that want to turf the current president with someone that will undoubtedly exacerbate the current fiscal disaster .
We here in Canada are witnessing the same kind of mindset. Harper can do no wrong,(they say) but the writing is on the wall.
His government is selling Canada out to big foreign controlled business for short term financial gains and our kids will pay for it...long after he is gone.

It was just bad timing on Romney's part.

He just recently announced that he wanted to downsize or dismantle FEMA and pass the responsibility down to the individual States.

That makes it very awkward for him at the moment and Obama gets to act Presidential.

Not that it is going to give Obama an advantage. Give it a couple days and the right will begin complaining that aid is not getting to the people fast enough.

Funny how no one likes big government until they need it.

statusquo

At times it is hard to believe you are self employed.
You always want to swing the pendulum completely the other way.
Of course all regulations cannot be removed, that is just a dumb blanket statement and you know it.
In your rant on ballooning deficits and removal of government regulations you left out the housing fiasco and the huge role that the Democrats played in that with Fannie May and Freddie Mac, you know everybody has the "right" to own their own home.
Anyways, ancient history.....
Have you ever attended a seminar by the Independent Canadian Council for Small Business or any one of the many organizations that help Canadian small business.
One of the main topics is always addressing the mountains of "red tape" imposed on small business by governments over the decades, some more than others.
The ever rising costs of hiring/training employees that independent small business endures.
The taxes paid and the costs endured by small business for collecting and submitting taxes.
Just a few areas that could be streamlined to allow small business to flourish.
Small business is the backbone of any economy, a basic recognized fact.
Yet, as Obama is currently doing and will continue to, small business gets crushed each and every time there are economic hard times
If you listen to Romney, stimulating small business for growth, hiring more employees and new start ups is a big part of his plan and it makes complete sense.
This is a guy with the experience and know how to make it happen.

"exacerbate the current fiscal disaster"

You make a statement like that but give Obama, the biggest spender as president of all time, a pass backed by nothing but tired worn out excuses.
You can ramble about past presidents till the cows come home stats but Obama has had his four years and bottom line is his record sucks.

He is now telling everyone that our economy is not all doom and gloom. This in spite of our GDP being considerably lower than forecast and the fact that the deficit is also going up along with the National debt. He would not outright admit that they will not meet their deficit reductions by 2015/2016 but only one of the faithfull would buy that one. We had better paint our backsides yellow because that's who will own them soon.

Again you lefties with the half truths.
It did not take the Federal government under Bush a long time to respond.
Do some reading on what actually took place.
Bush had contacted Gov. Blanco who had already declared a state of emergency but did not want the Feds to take complete control, she would not sign the papers.
There was a behind the scenes power struggle between the Federal government (Bush), Gov. Blanco and Mayor Nagin.
There were phone calls placed between the President, Blanco and Nagin discussing Federal assistance, that they declare the state an emergency area (Blanco already had) and begin mandatory evacuation. After a personal plea from the President Nagin agreed to order an evacuation of New Orleans.
On the same day Governor Blanco, who had already declared a state of emergency did request that President Bush declare a state of emergency for Louisianan for a full federal response.
There was enough blame to go around on that deal but the media once again placed entire blame on the scape goat of the times, Bush.
Bush later admitted that he should have just gave the order and sorted out the politics later but he was following protocol.

The 1/2 truths are just flying out this morning courtesy of the left.

"He just recently announced that he wanted to downsize or dismantle FEMA and pass the responsibility down to the individual States."

This is what was actually said and why.

Here is that exchange from the June debate between Romney and CNN’s John King:

KING: What else, Governor Romney? You’ve been a chief executive of a state. I was just in Joplin, Mo. I’ve been in Mississippi and Louisiana and Tennessee and other communities dealing with [disaster], whether it’s the tornadoes, the flooding and worse. FEMA is about to run out of money, and there are some people who say, ‘Do it on a case-by-case basis,’ and some people who say, you know, ‘Maybe we’re learning a lesson here that the states should take on more of this role.’ How do you deal with something like that?

ROMNEY: Absolutely. Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that’s the right direction. And if you can go even further and send it back to the private sector, that’s even better. Instead of thinking in the federal budget, what we should cut — we should ask ourselves the opposite question. What should we keep? We should take all of what we’re doing at the federal level and say, what are the things we’re doing that we don’t have to do? And those
things we’ve got to stop doing, because we’re borrowing $1.6 trillion more this year than we’re taking in.

“Gov. Romney believes that states should be in charge of emergency management in responding to storms and other natural disasters in their jurisdictions,” said Amanda Hennenberg. “As the first responders, states are in the best position to aid affected individuals and communities, and to direct resources and assistance to where they are needed most. This includes help from the federal government and FEMA.”

President Obama has declared a record number of disasters. And there have been charges that his administration has been too quick with federal aid.

In other words let the state control the spending...makes total sense to me.

A.J. Ellis' wife, Cindy, gave birth to the couple's third child in a car while the Los Angeles Dodgers catcher was barrelling down a highway at 75 m.p.h. in a futile attempt to get to a hospital.

Ellis, who lives near Milwaukee during the off-season, told ESPN.com that his wife was screaming that they wouldn't make it to the hospital on time.

"So I'm calmly telling her we're making it," Ellis said. "I figured she was just panicking because she was in excruciating pain."
On another note.
This one is for all the topic whiners out there.

From the QMI agency.

Wife of Dodgers Catcher Gives Birth in Speeding Car

Audrey Ellis was born Oct. 12 in the front seat of the car on Interstate 43, 20 minutes from the hospital. Mother and daughter are doing fine.

The car was borrowed from Ellis' father-in-law. The catcher's own car is a compact, but it's hard for him to drive it as he is coming off knee surgery.

"The in-laws took it to a car wash to be cleaned," Ellis said. "The vehicle has since reacquired that new-car smell."

Other than a Dr., who better than a professional back catcher?

....and as much as I hate cut and paste.....here goes:

"The first two full fiscal years of the Obama presidency saw unprecedented decreases in deficits: more in two years, after adjusting for inflation, than in Truman's eight years, and twice as much as in Clinton's eight years. That trend did not continue in the third year, which saw an insignificant decrease in deficits.

The first seven years of the G.W. Bush presidency increased the deficit by almost twice as much as the 32 years from JFK through G.H.W.Bush combined, and somewhat more than the 24 years from Harding through FDR combined (in inflation-adjusted dollars).

If one includes fiscal year 2008-2009 as part of the G.W. Bush administration (consistent with my treatment of all other administrations), that administration oversaw 3.5 times as much increase in Federal budget deficits as Presidents Kennedy through G.H.W.Bush put together.

Obviously, many of the reasons a deficit grows or shrinks are beyond the President's control: Congress, the economy, the beginning or ending of a war, the beginning or ending of a recession, etc. For example, the beginning of World War II can be blamed for much of FDR's increase in the deficit, just as the end of World War II and the start of the post-war economic boom can be credited for much of Truman's matching decrease. I'm not sure what happened to Ford: he faced an economic recession, but so have many Presidents.

At least in my lifetime, Republican Presidents have placed high priority on cutting taxes, and placed lower priority on (or had less success at) cutting spending. Democratic Presidents have perhaps had equal success at cutting spending (I haven't researched those numbers), but have not been bound by promises to cut taxes.

There may be other factors at work, e.g. the American people tend to elect a Democrat when things are at their worst and about to improve anyway, or something like that. Read into the numbers what you will."

This is a pretty even-handed article, so take from it what you will.

Not necessarily and this whole issue is up for debate.
It would allow states to react quicker and channel money where it is most needed.
It would also put more due diligence on states in defining real states of emergency.
This has been a widely debated issue long before Romney was on the scene.
Much of this was learned during Katrina.
The Governor was reluctant to give full power and control to the Feds and with some good reason.
Even in Canadian politics I am a firm believer in more $$$$ flow and power to provinces and less power and $$$$ flow to Federal.

General Lawson is a former airforce pilot and is a major supporter of the purchase of the F-35 fighters. Sounds like there is a conflict of interest here. When the media asked him about how he was going to cut the fat to the military's budget, he said he wasn't aware of any fat that needed to be cut. If cuts were made, they would have to eliminate over 7000 desk jobs and elminate some reservists. Of course, Stephen Harper was the person that is requesting this to happen. I think it's time to respond to right wig's response to yesterday's question by Grace about why he would vote for Romney.
He wrote twice about Romney's
"solid record" once in relationship to his run as governor in Massachusetts and once as "a problem solver".He then went on to write that "each and every president inherits a mess on some level" and again touts Romney's experience...education...and record".
That's it.
Reading it again shows it to be more of a criticism of President Obama than a reason to vote for Mitt.
But let's examine his record as governor. He used his veto power over 800 times. He instituted the template for Obamacare but now criticizes Obama's.
Both he and Obama graduated from Harvard. Obama was made the editor of the Harvard Law Review. Romney may or may not have read it.
Beyond his run at being governor he led the Winter Olympics and made millions in the six years he's been prepping to run for president.
He says government should let business operate unfettered from restraints but says he will create jobs.
Yet this week both GM and Chrysler in an very unusual statement rebutted his auto bail-out claims.
Now during the superstorm he is doing photo-ops at relief centers that look a lot like GOP rallies.
NJ governor Chris Christie has praised the president's efforts and that old FEMA burn-out from the GWB days of post Katrina has criticized the POTUS action. "Heck of a job Brownie" indeed.
I hope Obama wins this thing and in four years I'd take a serious look at Christie as a credible GOP candidate - a moderate Republican who actually has "a solid record" and is a "problem solver".
In the meantime Mitt and his Morons can get back to campaigning while the real leader solves problems.

Romney couldn't sell ice to an Eskimo. I think Obama would do a better job anyways because he knows how to connect better with the people and has helped with trying to repair the mess that G.W left after his terms in the White House. Romney makes all these promises and has not proof of anything good that he has done.

Obama's Halloween

The neighbor hood kids around the White House were asked to bring their trick or treats to the President.
President Obama dressed up as the Grinch accepted all the Halloween treats and inspected them.

He then announced redistribution of the treats.

Those neighborhood kids who sat around and did nothing and did not bother to trick or treat would be getting a share of the treats.

One young treat or treater who went out and worked his butt of trick or treating felt that this was not fare.
Why should those who did not work get a share of the treats he asked? He was then labeled a Republican and given a mask of the next president of the USA Mitt Romney.

Happened to be read a couple of news articles in which one states that a British think-tank places Canada as the sixth most prosperous country in the world, on their prosperity index. The article beside it was a report that states food bank use rose 2.4% this year, and is now 31% higher than before the 2008-2009 recession. In a typical month, food banks help 882,000 Canadians, and more than 339,000(38%) of them are kids. I guess food bank use wasn't one of the eight categories the think tank used.

More bad news for Obama.

The Yale University Economic Model is now giving the election to Romney. This model, put together by economist Ray Fair has accurately predicted every election except two since 1916. Those two were JFK’s victory in 1960 and Bill Clinton’s victory in 1992. And there's still the University of Colorado election predictor model, which has called every race accurately since 1980. This model still shows a victory of 330 electoral votes for Governor Romney, as well as a popular vote victory.
