13 deaths in the States, flooding, snow storms and huge areas with the power out. Southern Ontario is supposed to be the hardest hit with the balance of the storm in Quebec and the Maritimes. Looks like we will be getting off fairly easy. That said keep your heads down and have a great day.

You are right. As I have found in my newly adopted home town of Elliot Lake, people are basically kind and can be very generous and helpful. I know there are people here in our disaster town who are getting things together to help with your disaster town..
And many on this board (even though they sound rude and grumpy at times) are just as kind and generous.

I don't think there were enough shots of the swinging crane in the media last night.
On top of stupid reporters standing in knee deep water they seemed to desperately want to turn this into a worse disaster then it already was/is.
There was also a failed attempt to turn Obama into a hero as the main stream media has him dashing back to the White House.
They provided intellectual quotes made by Obama such as "Sandy is a big and powerful storm" and "this will take a long time to clean up".

I forwarded that request to Environment Canada, and thought folks here would be interested in the response:
"Weather bulletins are issued in upper case because this is a World Meteorological Organization requirement. However, on our weatheroffice web site, the bulletins are shown in proper case."

I would never want any harm to come to some stupid reporter standing on a beach challenging a hurricane, but to see these two get drenched and one go completely under was a lot more interesting (and just a tad bit satisfying) than another shot of the toppled crane.
By the way, Romney currently leads Obama 52% to 45% among voters who say they have already cast their ballots.

I usually visit this site daily, more for amusement than anything else. But it never fails to amaze me that you can count on rw and bluesslinger to continuously and repeatedly utter the same old, same old negative, critical, glass-halfful, gloom and doom comments and views about anything and everthing. When reading about or viewing news items on the Wawa disaster one thing struck me. The mayor,Linda Nowicki, is a class act. Her ability to deal with the media,while informative,straightforward and professionally imparted never crosses the line into a finger pointing exercise. To my mind, Wawa is lucky to have her as their mayor.

My concern is for the safety of young children who might get injured or killed due to the neglect of the PUC in performing their jobs..!! Perhaps there was an oversight or a work order missplaced - I don't know but when it comes to children's safety perhaps you should get your head out of your neighbors butt and open your eyes and mind..!!

Yogi... streetlights are a bit lower on the priority list than power outages. There is a patrol that takes care of street lights -- except when there are outages to correct -- but they don't respond to each report as it comes in. The report gets added to a list, and when the patriol crew is in that area they will take care of it... a more efficient method than having a crew bop around the city randomly.
As rw suggested, unless its the ONLY street light it isn't deemed urgent.

I'd vote for Obama simply because I think he's done a reasonable job given a mess to start with.
Let me begin with what he's done that I disagree with.
Way back when I saw him reading Abraham Lincoln I had a sense that he planned to be the Great Conciliator.That's when I knew he was naive.
That would only have worked with moderate Republicans not the Tea Party mob in there now.
Remember at the beginning of his term when he moderated a sit-down in the garden over beer with two minor league clowns? Bullshit. Presidents don't have time for that silliness.
He bailed out the auto companies. I would have let GM and Chrysler fail and restructure - that's why the laws are there.Look what GM did - now they build more product offshore than ever.
I don't think he had much choice with the investment banks but to bail them out. But he neglected to protect the good smaller ones and small businesses.
They're fine now and I don't think they're voting Democrat at Lehman and the others.
He gave into the lobbyists to keep Gitmo open. He should have closed it by executive order and sent it to some Republican state that will never support him anyway.
Then he should have repealed most of the Homeland Security edicts which are more dangerous to democracy than any terrorists.
However he did get some of the bad guys dead. Good. That's all they understand and became symbols to the screwball Muslim radicals.
After trusting his military geniuses in Afghanistan he figured out they didn't know as much as they said so he unleashed drones and techno-warfare and saved American lives.
The economy is making a slow steady improvement - by all my research the most sustainable.
If I were to grade him I'd give him a C - up from a D two years ago.
But while I am no big fan I think he at least is not as dangerous and self-serving as Romney.
So far Mitt has given me no reason why he wants to be president except because he believes he deserves it.He'll say and do anything to get there and do and say anything to stay there for two terms.
And I'm not sure that Americans don't deserve that.I also don't know if anything short of a civil war can fix it.

I'd vote for Mitt Romney simply because I think he's capable of doing an excellent job given the mess he will be left with.

The right to pursue your dreams, your happiness and to live free.
Although Mitt had been painted as the "evil" corporate ruler by the Democrats my research on him proved to be the opposite.
The man that showed up to campaign and at the debates proved to also be otherwise and not as the Democrats portrayed him.
After his first debate it became clear why the Democrats were afraid of this candidate.
He has a solid record as the 70th Governor of Massachusetts.
He was immersed in politics at an early age as he participated in the political campaigns of both his parents.
He has a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young, a joint Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration from Harvard.
Unlike the popular belief that Romney was given a silver spoon he secured his own position in management consulting and in 1977 he secured a position at Bain & Company. Later serving as its chief executive officer, he helped lead the company out of financial crisis.
Romney has a solid record as a leader and problem solver....and the U.S. certainly has it's problems.
All this talk about moderate Republicans and the Tea Party mob is just that, talk, political sparing if you will.
Why I'd vote for Mitt is as much about why I would have not nor ever would vote for Obama.

In many cases he borrowed money to invest and his successes were worth more than his losses.Seldom did Romney invest more than 20 % of the Company's net worth from his own funds without borrowing the other 80 %.
Some of the Companies that he invested in were mostly turned around by moving their businesses out of the U.S.A. for cheaper labour.

I never said anything about descending into hell. You have just made another assumption about my beliefs. It may surprise you but a belief in the Bible does not necessarily include a belief in a fiery place of eternal torment for the wicked. Don't always make assumptions based on the labels you have applied.

Right Wing--- I posted as much about Romney as you did but your posting did not talk about his business failures.
You conveniently left that out.
And you only responded to 1 small part of my posting because that was all you could come back with.
Romney said it himself---Governments do not create jobs---so how does Romney expect to create 40 million new jobs---certainly not by bringing back businesses from foreign lands as he said he planned to do.
In my opinion, Romney is a big phoney.

I think I struck a nerve when your attempts at salience when quoting inane bible verses where rebutted by me.
You take things far too personally.
I would suggest to keep your religion to yourself and quit complaining about "foul" language.
World history is "foul" and perfuming it in pleasant terms isn't going to make it smell any better.

Dante's inferno isn't to be taken literally...like you take the Bible. It's a metaphor of the human torment. A heros journey into the abyss. In it's essence it is more salient and pertinent than any passage in the Bible i.e....a book crafted for political reasons by an oppressed people with some folksy wisdoms but not much else.

Not really, mine is happy I'm not bothering her while she is doing her reading. We have tended to develop some different interests over the years and get together for our mutual interests.

togetherness is great if not over done. Look at all the wives that "complain" when hubby retires and is "underfoot" all the time. A little space is good especially when mutually agreed upon :)

Right Wing I heard Romney say exactly what I posted---Governments do not create jobs---I also heard him say that he is going to offer Tax Incentives to the Businesses that left the U.S.A. to get them back.
