theprotector 10/23/2012 7:55:43 AM ReportI could care less about the usa presidential election, however it was interesting to watch mitt squirm when the discussion was about american jobs going overseas by american companies - when the companies he has been involved with moved overseas with the support of mitt to increase profit margins. Now he wants to attack China?? Wow this guy really does not have a clue.
Grace 10/23/2012 8:02:38 AM Reportya...and how upset the One got when Rom brought up the "Appology Tour"
Right Winger 10/23/2012 8:20:42 AM Reportprotector, you need to get the clue. Mr Romney wants to eliminate the desire for US jobs to be outsourced. Under current policy it is the way to go in order to make a profit. As a business owner the decision to ship jobs overseas was a responsible one for his stock holders.
When elected president he want to make the decision to keep the jobs here to be the responsible one.
When he ran Bain Capital he was not making policy decisions, but business decisions. Two different hats.
right wing 10/23/2012 8:42:37 AM ReportThe debate was rather dry...I actually dosed off for a few minutes.
The media is calling it a win for Obama but along with that stating, will it really matter at this point.
Polls showed that Romney was viewed as looking Presidential and came off as a leader.
Bottom line the "needle" will not budge a bit which is bad news for Obama.
We will see an increase in posts from the lefties in the next two weeks about how it does not matter who wins, Obama does not care if he wins, the country will crash anyway and some more yawns from flyhawk.
All sure signs they know Obama is going down as a one term president.
BIG BROTHER 10/23/2012 8:48:48 AM ReportI think Romnesia was sorry he brought up the so-called 'apology tour'. The ONE fed it right back to him, straight down his throat and he took it like a big dose of cod liver oil!!
BIG BROTHER 10/23/2012 8:54:39 AM ReportRomney was kept busy agreeing with the ONE all night. He kept trying to steal the ONE's thunder by claiming the high road on issues past. It was a transparent attempt to appear conciliatory. Shallow as P on a plate!!
bluesslinger 10/23/2012 9:05:26 AM ReportIt's the media's job to call it a win for the O. Leading in the polls from behind and all that.
R outclassed O at every turn. Calling him on all his lies, referencing the apology tour, referencing his failed four years etc. Not only did he beat O, but beat O and S as well, as they attempted to tag team him.
I kept track of interuptions, just for the lefties;
O - 18 interuptions
S - seven interuptions
R - one interuption, only to tell the O that he was wrong
R was classy, cool and steady while the O looked like he was scrambling for yards and desperate. Today, the O does know what his ass looks like!
Grace will probably be in bed all day, poor girl...NOT that there is anything wrong with that...

What Romney did regarding Obama's apology tour was explain to Obama that he was not suggesting Obama "literally apologized" but it was rather who he selectively visited and rubbed shoulders with and who he ignored that was telling.
Obama was pissed when the whole issue was brought up, you could see he really wanted to freak, what does that tell you.

Right Winger 10/23/2012 9:49:18 AM Reportprotector, those are business decisions based on current policies. He wants to change policies so that other BOD's think twice about shipping the job overseas.
Heck to quote the One: "There are some jobs that are not going to come back"
Nice optimism as opposed to Romney stating that the US can "compete with anyone in the world as long as the playing field is level"

Nanax5 10/23/2012 10:13:15 AM ReportI don't care about the presidential election. I am more interested why Harper goes out of the country so much. He should stay here and attend to matters
Grace 10/23/2012 10:14:10 AM ReportThe Electoral College is an example of an indirect election, consisting of 538 electors who officially elect the President and Vice President of the United States. The number of electors is equal to the total voting membership of the United States Congress, 435 Representatives and 100 Senators, plus three electors from the District of Columbia.[1] Article II, Section 1, Clause 2 of the Constitution specifies the number of electors to which each state is entitled and state legislatures decide how they are chosen.
Voters in each state and the District of Columbia cast ballots selecting electors pledged to presidential and vice presidential candidates. In nearly all states, electors are awarded on a winner-take-all basis to the candidate who wins the most votes in that state. Although electors are not required by federal law to honor a pledge, in the overwhelming majority of cases they vote for the candidate to whom they are pledged.[2][3] The Twelfth Amendment provides for each elector to cast one vote for President and one vote for Vice President. It also specifies how a President and Vice President are elected. The Twenty-third Amendment specifies how many electors the District of Columbia is entitled to have.
Critics argue that the Electoral College is inherently undemocratic and gives swing states disproportionate influence in electing the President and Vice President. Proponents argue that the Electoral College is an important, distinguishing feature of federalism in the United States and that it protects the rights of smaller states. Numerous constitutional amendments have been introduced in the Congress seeking to alter the Electoral College or replace it with a direct popular vote.

learningaswego 10/23/2012 10:50:16 AM ReportI'd say Romney "won" the debate last night. (surprise, eh?)
He was poised, calm, clear, spoke with conviction; and did not attack Obie. When he spoke it wasn't fluff or verbal diahrrea; it was solid. He was dignified, and a gentleman, and several times acknowledged agreement with Obie.
He looked and spoke downright "Presidential". His best lines were when he summarized what he has actually achieved as a leader, in business and government, over many years and in many roles.
Obie was on the defense all night, often stammering his usual empty rhetoric; and spent most of the time personally attacking Romney.
Showed explicitly that Romney is an achiever, and Obie is a talker. If I were voting, I'd pick an achiever over a talker any day; but we know how many voters are duped by celebrity talkers.
I'd give that debate to Romney, though I doubt if it will have any impact on the election results.
Likely 4 more years of (no) Hope and (negative) Change with Obie.
Poor friggin' America.

There are at least a "jillion" (I know how you love hyperbole) examples of Obama's actual statement available on pretty much every form of media today.
Obama said " We have FEWER horses and bayonets...".
It is obvious that you can't make a cogent argument for or against anything ... be it Hypocrisy or Obama's presidency ... since you have to rely (or should that be re-LIE) on starting every attack you make by "modifying" the truth/fact/event to suit your needs.
I doubt that you will respond directly or coherently to this post since I used facts.
learningaswego 10/23/2012 12:34:57 PM ReportIf Romney:
a) had spent as much time on the celebrity talk show circuit, and counted rap stars as his personal friends, like Obie
b) wasn't such a gentleman, with class
Then, I'm sure he could have easily retorted cleverly and equally insultingly to Obie's "horses and bayonets" insult.
Of course the lamestream, conservative-hating msm will triumph the insult as a huge "coup" for the Obie gang. No surprise there at all. Such is the sad state of media and politics.
Snobank 10/23/2012 12:48:34 PM ReportSo let's see if I understand your argument, learningaswego. Because Romney does not have a wide and varied circle of friends and is too circumspect to defend his positions he would make a good leader? Does that sound good eben too you?

As for your difficulty hearing---both of you like to interpret, in your own way, what you hear---even if it is not accurate.
I heard Romney say that he would increase the Armed Forces much larger than it is now---What will he do with all those extra forces ?---well, start another unnecessary war with, probably, Iran and restart the Cold War with Russia who Romney thinks is the # 2 Threat to the U.S.A. after Iran.
That would lower the Deficit wouldn't it !
I also heard Romney say that he would bring back all the Companies who went to China, including several Companies that he had Investments with. I wish him good luck with that one.
I heard Romney would repeal the new Obamacare Health System where about 40 Million more Americans could get Health Care Insurance who could not afford it before. Romney would sooner have those 40 Million people without any Health Care as it was before. And all the Hospitals and Insurance Companies and Doctors will, again, make big profits and refuse service to those most in need if they have pre-conditions.
It will be a sad day for the Average American if Romney takes the Country back to the eras of the 2 Bush Presidents. He said he wanted to go back to moving the country forward but his Policies will take them back alright---back to old Republican ways.
I will stop there, for now, but I hope that Bluesslinger and Right Wing could see both sides of the picture instead of keeping a one-track mind.

Now for a comment on Conservative economic policy. When I was a boy, the adage was that if the head is doing well, then the tail will wag. In other words, if our corporations and businesses are doing well, then the workers will benefit. There was a truth to this idea.
This is no longer the case. There is no longer a national "connect" and so, for example, if British Petroleum is doing well, then there is no guarantee that the U.K. are in any way benefiting. The multi-national nature of corporations means that any kind of social conscience is gone.
Despite what they say, large businesses and corporations have no sense of belonging and thus the tail is totally separated from the head. If the head can make more in China and Korea, it will.
Romney (and for that matter Obama) can say what they want about business and encouragement, but it will make no difference. Any breaks to business will not guarantee any breaks to the American people and any cuts to Obamacare will further disenfranchise the poor.

Is that what G.M. and Chrysler should have done---great idea Mr. Romney.
By the way---I see many flaws in the way that Obama ran his Presidency but those flaws are lesser than what Romney will do if he takes over in my opinion.
In my opinion the average american will be far better off with Obama in the next 4 years than they will be with Romney as President. But with Romney the Rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer. He has always favoured the Rich.
Also, by the way, I clearly heard Romney say he will create 14 Million new jobs with him as President---He has not laid out any specific plan to do that except to lower the Business Taxes to promote business to create jobs but he cannot guarantee that many businesses will remain in the U.S.A. even with lower taxes.
Lower taxes brings in less Revenue----That will really lower the deficit won't it---so in order to bring in more taxes that he will not get from his business partners he will have to tax the middle class to increase the Revenues. Real smart move eh you right leaning posters ?
Oldie Goldie 10/23/2012 8:32:30 PM ReportRight Wing---You often like to quote from Wikipedia--Well, even Wikipedia says that Romney had just about as many failures as successes in his lifetime.
But, I guess, that he got more money from his successes than what he lost with his failures.
Obama is not perfect but neither is Romney.
See, I can see both sides.
What counts the most is whether Obama or Romney will improve life for 99% of Americans and, again in my opinion, Romney's policies will mostly help the 1% of the Americans who are already rich.
Right Winger 10/23/2012 8:57:40 PM ReportOG,
Got no comeback on Gitmo do you?
Grace 10/23/2012 9:25:32 PM ReportDefine rich?
Explain how you get rich?
Success is somehow something to be frownwed upon?
What is the American dream again?
To be succesful or just run of the mill?
Why acheive?
Okay lefties ...explain! If you can.
Retreaded 10/23/2012 9:43:38 PM ReportWow...Brian Hayes on a trip to the vatican...one of the benefits of electing a member of the ruling party.
Oldie Goldie 10/23/2012 10:02:42 PM ReportRight Winger---Yes Obama said that he would close Guatanamo Bay Prison within a year---He found that to be harder than he thought but I do believe that there are very few prisoners left there now !
What makes you think that Romney will keep all his promises, that he is making now, after he becomes President ?
Romney said that he approves of Water Boarding as a means of gathering info. from prisoners and he will probably keep gitmo open to do that.
flyhawk25 10/23/2012 10:13:59 PM ReportRetreaded...in defense of Mr. Hayes...he just does what he is told.
He's polite, well groomed and photographs well. Unlike the guy he replaced who always looked like he got dressed in a phone booth in the rain.
I take great comfort in knowing that my tax bill for this year paid for Bryan's wonderful opportunity to applaud the elevation of a Mohawk maiden to saint status.
What's-his-name the lefty-pinko Irish immigrant will just have to go back to the Soup Kitchen with all those other threats to unfettered capitalism and make baloney sandwiches.
I am going to sleep better knowing that my money went to The Big Picture.
God bless Hayes,God bless St. Katarina, God bless all God fearing people in the true north strong and free.
