Well nothing new in the news except another robbery and a drunk being busted.Same old,same old.
I didn't read on here any comments on how nice the water tower looks after it's paint job? I think it looks a lot better. BUT! I thought the Soo's colours are Red & White? The Greyhounds ,and the little tournament teams are red & white.

In sports you'll frequently hear "he got into his head".
That seems to be the case with President Obama's reaction to Romney.
I think it drives Obama nuts that he believes that Mitt changes his position every day and picks away at isolated 'facts'.
He does have that deer in the headlights look.And I question whether he possesses that Bobby Kennedy killer instinct - choosing to play the Abe Lincoln Great Conciliator role.
All of this can be translated as indecisive leadership. Voters are rightfully wondering if he blinks at a weasel in a cashmere suit what will he do with some mad man with an A bomb.
I don't see Romney doing anything for the majority if he's elected but people also buy lottery tickets on the chance of instant wealth with no sweat equity.
So many are saying 'let's try Mitt, it can't get worse'.
It can. And it will.
Unless you are on the top rung of the wealth chain.

Flyhawk, I wouldn't talk about Romney changing his position if I were you. How about Obama opposing gay marriage because of his Christian beliefs and then evolving to the secular opinion on the matter?

Last nights introductions pointed out that one candidate was a Mormon and the other a Protestant.
I know Mitt is a practicing Mormon but the One a Protestant? I was under the impression he has openly stated he was a Muslim?

its unfortunate that the comments have been disabled on the release about jarrett jocko's warrant for arrest on a sexual assault charge... but ill leave my comment here:
i know the victim who is a 14 year old girl, he brutally raped this child. thank god a proper rape kit was completed, his DNA was a match and came up in the system,hence the warrant (which tells me this is not his first violent offense.).. this man needs to be put away forever!! him and his brother can sit in protective custody together, yes he is the brother of Dylan Jocko who is currently on trial for the first degree murder of Wesley Hallam!! a family of monsters!! i hope he rots!!

Ambassador Stevens hosted a dinner guest early in the evening he was negotiating the return of heavy weapons the USA had given the Libyan rebels to over throw the dictator Gaddafi.

it takes a long time for DNA analysis... not like on TV... the DNA results came back, were put into the system where Violent offenders DNA profiles are kept and Jocko's was a hit...
what i do know and do not understand tho is that before the rape and during the conversation he struck up with the young girl, he told her his name. So the police have had his name since the assault, not sure why they waited for the DNA... maybe more evidence? meanwhile this sicko has been walking among us and sharing sidewalks with our children... way to go Sault Police!
BTW Jocko was intoxicated at the time of the assault... the young girl was able see that as well

On another subject; did the police catch up to that prisoner that escaped their custody at the beginning of this week? The article mentioned that he was not to be approached by an individual if he was seen but to contact the police. I assume that indicates that he is dangerous to the general public.

Good I am glad the Civil Servants have to pay for their pension. They should not get a pension but their CPP. We shouldn't as a tax payer pay any benefit to them. They have a job and that is their benefit. They should can their sick leave while they are at it.

My interpretation is that this forum is the place to discuss local news and perhaps the Red Room would be better suited for discussions that dont necessarily have any immediate impact on our lives today... i.e. "Sault Police search for man wanted for sexual assault" (i would have gladly posted it under the news story if it hadnt been disabled)
i rarely come in here but did today to comment on a news story posted on sootoday...
this forum is dominated by political discussion... most of it not even Canadian...
i guess it can be debated on which forum specific discussions should be held, and because i was not 100% sure where i should post my comments i did investigate... this is what i found..

I would like to discuss the current news story regarding the sexual assault, the fact that Police had his name and held onto it until now putting more young women at risk of assault. I also made a not to subtle attempt to draw attention to the fact this Jocko is the brother of Dylan Jocko who is going into his 4th week of preliminary hearing for the first degree murder of Wesley Hallam...
just looking for thoughts and maybe validation that my feelings of disgust and sadness for our community and youth are warranted (not that i need validation, my feelings are definitely warranted) just seems to me that this is a little more pressing than the US elections considering our children are killing each other (literally and metaphorically)in our streets.

He has not been convicted yet.

If the police held back, trust me, they had good reason for it.
Both of these names have been in the news prior and many folks may already know the connection.

Dreamer, that part of the article is somewhat misleading, she left her home at approx 930pm to walk her friend half way home. At that time of year it is still light out... im not sure where the "midnight" comment comes in... i know he made initial contact with her at approx 10pm when she was heading back home... p.s. she was walking her friend to the halfway point which was about 2.5 blocks from her home.

Complaining about what people should or should not comment on is ,if not ludicrous, a little disquieting. I find a it a great example of free speech that we can take any topic and be free to discuss it. When I have friends over, I don't ask them to stop talking about U.S. politics and tell them that they must discuss local bullying. Sometimes there are very dramatic news items, but there is nothing much to say as everyone will say, "That's awful" or "That's good".
Personally, I miss Spelly's "post Hilton" early morning soliloquies.

Not wanting to get this post pulled or be accused of pre-judging the outcome, I will state that if Mr. Jocko is found guilty what do you suppose he will get?
Time served perhaps or probation or some other sentence that will leave the victim one more on the long list of people that were not only victims,but victims without justice.
I'm fully in favour of anyone being given a second or third chance,but at some point our justice system has to grow a set and worry more about protecting the public than rehabilitating a "poor boy gone bad." I apologize for the rant,but some things get my dander up and this is one of them

The only issue is whether he has any leverage with the 905 power brokers.

Ya...I heard that one today too...reaks of desparation by the One! Upset Romney dinged him and Joe at last nights dinner pretty hard.
I have yet to hear of what Obies plans are for the next four years other than nothing will change..every time I see him or Laughing Joe on the tube all they are doing is trying to run down Romney and somehow make themselves look better.
I guess if you can't prove you are worthy of keeping the job by your past accomplishments and future plans then taking shots and villifying your oponent will only keep the 47% of those that support you.
Good thing 53% aren't being fooled.

LILLE, France - Police in France said on Friday they were trying to identify the skeleton of a man believed to have lain undiscovered in bed for more than 15 years.
The body, found in an abandoned house in the northern city of Lille, is thought to be that of the elderly owner of the property, who lived alone and appeared to have no relatives.
Police said they had found piles of unopened mail at the house dating back to 1996.
Good freaking grief...not to laugh at the situation but....
....bunch of Inspector Clouseau's, French Detectives at their best....why don't they read who the mail was addressed to.
Better yet...didn't the French mail man notice the mail box was a tad full.

Although rw has made it clear that he is no fan of mine, I do defend his right to post on topics he finds of interest. It reeks of political correctness, even Big Brotherism, (sorry Spelly for making up a word,) to demand that posters only post on topics or within geographical boundaries. So, post away rw, even if you don't agree with me.
BTW, if a Belgium were to drop dead on the international bridge, one half in the USA and the other half in Canada, could we discuss it? Could we discuss just the half that was in Canada? Could people from Belgium discuss it al all?
