steelworker 10/16/2012 6:42:33 AM Report...and the decline of the Liberal Empire continues. Turdeau must be spinning in his grave in Transylvania.
Grump 10/16/2012 7:17:42 AM ReportGood morning everyone, another fine fall day. I was surprised that Dalton quit at this time. Then I read the posts of a number of our local maroons and I suspect he may have been feeling bullied also. Dalton, all his life has been a decent, bright and hard working man but unlike our local crew he is only human and not perfect. I would at some point like to hear the life stories of all you high achievers and of course all the thing that you haven't screwed up. By the way Dalton's salary would be about what most good lawyers would make and his pension would be a little more than the average MPP's. Maybe it's just me but but I wouldn't want it at double or triple his salary. Have a great day everyone.
steelworker 10/16/2012 7:28:12 AM ReportI predict that there will be a criminal investigation into Daltons actions in Southern Ontario. Typical Lib- when you get caught try to stay ahead of the tidal wave. Just ask Charest in Quebec.
flyhawk25 10/16/2012 7:37:07 AM ReportIn our culture it is not acceptable to fall on one's sword.
Pity.
Dalton is not and never has been a leader. His government's spending has left us in a mess that will take generations yet born to pay off.
Just how much did he listen to us?
How much did he listen to his handlers?
Now it seems he's saying "Well I've done what I could now you figure it out.I'm going to look at federal politics."
He is the worst kind of stupid - he doesn't know what he doesn't know.
Right Winger 10/16/2012 7:58:02 AM ReportThe only good he did was how he dealt with the public service over the last month. However I fear that will all be for naught.
steelworker 10/16/2012 8:24:42 AM ReportMike Harris come back. All is forgiven!! (smiley face)
flyhawk25 10/16/2012 8:29:49 AM ReportRW...we can agree to disagree on this one.
However.
Would you agree that he should have tried this?
Cut every government funded management salary budget by 30% including his cabinet.
Let them decide who and how.
I'd bet my baseball card collection that we consumers would not see any reduction in services and we'd still save 30%.
right wing 10/16/2012 8:32:26 AM Reportflyhawk25
You see, we can agree on something, McGuinty the worst kind of stupid.
Oldie Goldie 10/16/2012 8:38:58 AM ReportRight Winger---You, obviously, don't like Public Servants.
The " only good " that he did was freeze Public Servants wages---That is partly his problem for leaving.
McGuinty reminds me of the Italian Captain who got off the ship before some passengers and crew.
When the ship is sinking--the rats jump off first.
He did not have to close down the Legislature--but this way the Public will never find out how bad his Government really was until Parliament resumes again.
right wing 10/16/2012 8:39:06 AM ReportMcGuinty screwed us big time with all these stupid green energy programs.
Buying green energy at prices higher than they are worth, locked into contracts, stupid meters and in the end zero benefit, squat for the average consumer.
I never voted for the man, could not believe he was voted back in.
Those that did can suffer in silence.
I do believe the teachers union was one of those big Dalton supporters, well until he took away the cookie jar....
;)
Right Winger 10/16/2012 8:39:48 AM Reporthawk, while I agree partly, I think it should be the whole public service not just management.
Right Winger 10/16/2012 8:41:34 AM ReportDon't dislike public servants at all. As a matter a fact many are my best friends. That doesn't mean I have to be happy with their overall compensation package.
right wing 10/16/2012 8:43:33 AM Report"Dalton McGuinty sure deserves our praise and thanks for his work on behalf of Ontario Citizens for as long as he has.
Thank You Mr. McGuinty."
...by Oldie Goldie.
old-cat33 10/16/2012 8:45:56 AM ReportDalton retired 9 yrs. to late!
flyhawk25 10/16/2012 8:47:46 AM ReportRW...having been a part of the feast at the public trough I am certain that a 30% cut in management salaries would have zero impact on consumers.
Traditionally they just keep adding layers of management minions to the payroll and it serves no purpose except to buffer the top dogs from getting canned.
Oldie Goldie 10/16/2012 9:10:58 AM ReportYes--Right Wing---I gave praise to McGuinty for his Service---as I would for anyone who serves that long in Government.
But you only quoted a part of my posting---as you are wont to do.
He made a big mistake by closing the Legislature. Now we are paying big bucks to M.P.P.s who will do nothing until the Legislature resumes sitting.
I think that I read somewhere that the costs of maintaining a closed Legislature are enormous.
Oldie Goldie 10/16/2012 9:16:49 AM ReportThe Federal Liberals have not, yet, elected a new Leader after a year or more. If the Provincial Liberals take that long to elect their new Leader the Province of Ontario will not be able to pay their bills and Interest Rates on the huge Deficit will still have to be paid.
I don't believe that McGuinty will run for the Federal Liberals---His mess in Ontario will follow him just like it did Mike Harris.
Wisenheimer 10/16/2012 9:27:02 AM ReportThe clatter you hear is liberal rats jumping ship. You know who they are. Similar commotion and squealing will be heard down South come November.
flyhawk25 10/16/2012 10:02:15 AM ReportAhh...our resident expert on rats has spoken.
right wing 10/16/2012 10:04:54 AM ReportOne can become an expert through means of observation I mean when there are so many of them (Liberals) around it's easy.
sweetc 10/16/2012 10:12:19 AM Reportthank you sault ste marie for all the help for Jesse & Cody. this is certainly a family in need.
Sam C 10/16/2012 10:26:31 AM ReportOldie... I can't see that it would cost more to maintain a closed legislature as one that is open, but the return on investment is better when it is open.
The bigger price to be paid is that McGuinty is STILL Premier, and retains executive power with the legislature prorogued. The government still operates, he is still in charge, and he no longer has to face -- nor consult -- the Opposition.
right wing 10/16/2012 10:41:10 AM ReportGreat point Sam... the gun slinging outlaw has the town to himself.
mallet 10/16/2012 11:02:42 AM ReportR W, Flyhawk, Sam, et al..
An Honourable man would have resigned and called an election, they have a deputy PM who could have carried on with the business of government, so what was the need to close the legislature. Just goes to show what lengths a party will go to, to hang on to power.
Bobby Nerves 10/16/2012 11:07:41 AM ReportAnother fine, honest and politically correct decision of one of the best politicians Ontario ever had.
If Ontarians no longer trust his integrity and fairness of his decisions... well let them seat another politician capable of doing it in the way Ontarians believe is the best.
So long Premier.
And I don't think he's gonna run federally, as you need Ontario in order to lay your chips on the table.
At least Dalton will have some time to share tables with those who followed him over the years... while in Quebec, Mr. Charest; a con who took the liberal helm on, only for his convenience; will share the table with his con lawyers when the work contracts scandal land in court.
It could also be a good time to return Mr. Rae to our end deepens. We can package Mr. Rae with shiny paper and a nice ribbon.
Bobby Nerves 10/16/2012 11:16:08 AM ReportMallet, they will go the same length you go to hide the infamous beer fridge!
I know it very well, you have it hiding in the attic...
But, we will find the way to drain your fridge dry.
cathyh 10/16/2012 11:21:54 AM ReportKudos to Winmar and Mr. Rooley for the job they did renovating Jesse & Cody's house. It's nice to know that there are such generous people operating businesses in the Soo.
right wing 10/16/2012 11:23:32 AM Reportmallet
Regarding the poll on Bullying by SooToday.
The results thus far would seem to be supporting your suggestion yesterday that most folks just shrug it off and move along.
Perhaps, depending of course on the age of most respondents, the skin is not a thin as is perceived.
learningaswego 10/16/2012 11:36:42 AM ReportI think it probably depends greatly on the nature, and severity of the bullying; as to a survey response.
Example, if you were in Gr. 9, and a senior student pushed you and knocked your books out of your hands, and that was "it".....then your response to the survey would be a lot different, from say, someone who was bullied (and cruelly) by their peers, and on an ongoing basis.
learningaswego 10/16/2012 11:44:58 AM ReportThe cost to move the gas-fired electricity plants - all just to retain Liberal MPP seats - must be even bigger than first was outed. Even the costs known thus far, were absolutely unconscionable (Spelly?); so the REAL cost - and it WILL become known; will make the public outrage even greater.
Add to that, the entire energy file mess of McGuinty, and the Libs can expect to spend a long, long time as 3rd place party in the legislature.
If, as is speculated, the federal Liberals may be considering McGuinty; then they have indeed completely lost their minds.
Having McGuinty as federal Liberal leader, would be like having someone with the bubonic plague in charge of the hospital.
mallet 10/16/2012 11:49:26 AM ReportRight Wing..
I was just trying to put a different perspective on that subject. I went to school in the forties and fifties, and I cannot recall there being a great number of young people doing themselves harm, but I do remember a lot of school yard fights, and the teachers would send one to the infirmary and the other to the office where suitable punishment was meted out, after a few words with the people standing round. Now I agree there was NO social internet to make the disputes world wide, however the whole school would soon know, at lunch or after school. I was not trying to make light of the subject, I was just saying how times have changed and that people can be offended by so slight an insult or remark, it is the fault of the "political Correctness" that we should all like our fellow man or woman, when human nature tells us that is not necessarily the case..
right wing 10/16/2012 12:00:32 PM Reportmallet
I agree on the social media angle.
This facebook stuff has gotten way out of hand, there have been investigations and charges over it.
I was bullied in school and I dished some out but that was many years ago.
The hands off policies of today have their good points but also their bad.
When my son was in grade school I was called in as he had been in a fight.
I was expected (by the principal) to have harsh words for him until I found out that two kids ganged up on him.
One of them took one punch and ran, the other was suddenly not so brave.
I told the principal under no circumstances would I tell my son he did anything wrong for defending himself.
All I know is nobody tried to beat on him anymore.
He got a day off from school, I let him watch movies and play video games, not what I would have usually done if I knew he had done wrong.
cathyh 10/16/2012 12:10:16 PM ReportMcGuinty has only taken a lesson from PM Harper as he prorogued parliament 2x, 2008 & 2009. The leaders do it usually to hide something which I suspect McGunty is doing this time. IMHO someone who runs for political office is 1 brick short of a load and I say that because you can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time and the electorate wants the latter.
flyhawk25 10/16/2012 12:32:00 PM ReportIf it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck sometimes it's not JP.
Spellchecker 10/16/2012 1:03:25 PM ReportLooked good to me, learningaswego * .
66cherokee 10/16/2012 2:57:50 PM ReportDaltan McGuinty has resigned as Premier of Ontario. He then preroged Parliament, and do you know why he did this? He hopes that by doing that WE THE TAXPAYERS will forget about the 230 million dollars he threw down the drain so that they could keep three Liberal ridings. He cancelled 2 gas power plant. And not just that, he could be in contempt of Parliament because of the MISSING 20,000, yes twenty thousand sheets of paper missing from the cancellation of the 2 power plants. These papers were ordered disclosed. So McGuinty hopes that we will forget that little measly 230 MILLION DOLLARS, the Orange fiasco(our money again), the E-HEALTH fiasco(our money again). People will never forget that after he was first elected, and he did promise no tax increases, he brought in the health tax, and then it was the environmental tax, I could go on and on and on.
He prorogued Parliament so that the LIBERALS could elect a new Liberal leader, never mind that nothing is going to get done. We are at a standstill.
So folks, don't forget about all that wasted money. There is only one taxpayer in this country and that is you and I.

Mike Harris left because he knew he couldn't win. Ernie eves took the fall
Dalton McGuinty left because he knew he couldn't win. Who will take the fall?

In fact, look at any teaching textbook that is used in Teachers' College to absolutely corroborate my views and make you seem even more of an arrogant nitwit than you usually are. The last is from this week's offering from a local girl, now a reporter for the Globe and Mail.
You asked for it ; you got it. Are you up for a factual test two weeks from now on a not-substantial workload??
It will be a factual (I know you like facts) test that I will go to the trouble of posting on the View Room Comment and you can answer online. Are you up for it??
