Good morning everyone, I'm sure there will be two camps on here today with different views on who won the debate. Wicket we have a grand-son-in-law who tried that here. The wife saved him before I could reach him. She told him if he wanted to stay and dine to take it off and never wear it in here again. I can't tell you the condition of the hat but he sure didn't look all that great. lol

Now I see why the Obie handlers don't want Laughing Joe to go on the talk shows to do interviews.
Joe's behaviour was to be honest...disturbing. You don't sell me on your position by acting the way he did. Just makes me believe the other side is taking things like running the country more seriously.
CNN polls show that Ryan was favoured over Joe. Not a huge margin between the two.

Well folks, we had a great time at the Moose Lodge jam session last evening. Grandpa Ed, an avid follower of our Blue Room antics, sang us a nice old-time medley and a rollicking rendition of Down By The Riverside. It was also a treat to see my grandson play for the first time in a public venue and always a good rendezvous with my Pumpkin Point buddy.

Looking at the polls he didn't win over the masses but managed to tread water. If you have a poor record to tout then you puff up and bluster hoping to deflect away from what you haven't done?

Grace when using polls an intlligent person does not use those that are left or right leaning. Independent. Ryan fumbled and was rehearsed. I know his antics showed him nervous when facts on the HOW came to him. Can't answer on HOW then you are not prepeared. All Biden did was just baste him like a turkey.

The only turkey on last night was Biden.
Joe did better than I thought he would, better than his boss, Obama.
His years of political experience were obviously an advantage at times.
Joe could have quite possibly come out ahead in this debate if he had dropped the stupid laughing, dumb grins and non-stop interrupting.
In short he came off rude and combative.
The Liberals wanted a show of strength, a fighter, Biden's performance reminded me of an aged boxer in the ring trying anything to look tough, swinging wildly at the steady, firm on his feet young guy.

If I had to pick a "winner" in the VP debate, I'd have to give the edge to Biden on this one, by a small margin. If a football game, 35-32 for Biden.
He was obviously much more experienced, especially at giving excuses for failure.
Biden was a far sight better than his "boss" was in the first Prez debate.

There is something really wrong with Mitt Romney if he thinks that the Great Lakes are seas. I think it is best that Mitt keeps his mouth shut because sometimes he sounds really stupid like his remark that airplanes should have windows that roll down after his or his wife's plane had a pressurization issue.

The design of the turning lane into St. Basils is and always has been a joke. Turning St. Georges' ave. into a 1 lane cow path to make up for that stupid medium is a hazard. It may not had anything to do with the recent fatality, but with the racing to get into the one lane, it sure might on the next one.

When I pick up students at Basils and it is right at the end of the school day.. I'd tell them to cross the street and i'll pick them up in the Church parking lot.
That particular intersection is horrible.. those coming up the hill can't see the top until they are right on top and if anyone was stopped waiting to turn into the parking lot.. there have been several crashes there in the last couple of years...
Busses going in and out, teachers in and out.. students and parents in and out.. and a busy road.

I see someone made the same comment on a point I was trying to make the other day... opinion on who won and who lost in the debates is entirely based on bias. This type of performance is almost impossible to view objectively.
I had too much to do last night, so I didn't catch more than a snippet of the debate. The portion I caught was when Ryan was arguing against the removal of troops in Afghanistan. This is central to my issue with the Republican platform.
The Republicans have been running a campaign based on the economy, but they are running a completely contradictory campaign when it comes to international relations and the US armed forces.
One of the biggest hurdles to their economic recovery is their national debt - a debt in large part created by the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. In order to improve the international value of their dollar, thereby improving their ability to drive economic recovery, they need to reduce their debt. This is a very simple and basic economic principle.
Military activity = government spending = taxpayer money. The US cannot maintain their current military activity and simultaneously decrease their national debt. Romney and Ryan keep talking about a strong military and wanting to meddle in the conflicts of other countries. They simply cannot conceivably maintain or expand American military activities and improve their economy at the same time. I'm sorry, but this is very basic economics and this contradiction should cause intelligent people to question the validity of their claims and promises.

The Irish adage is 'never let the truth get in the way of a good story' and both candidates lived up to it.
I too only watched snippets because Biden's smirking annoyed me. That said I can't blame him too much.
He and I are the same age and neither of us suffer fools well.I would have probably melted down and said "Look sonny, stop banging the party drum for a minute and do your homework.Our moderator has traveled and analyzed the world more than you."
But Ryan was every bit as good as I expected. He is a bright, articulate and apparently decent man.
Certainly in comparison to Palin, Quayle, Agnew and Gore he is effective. Unfortunately he's nowhere as nasty as Cheney.
None of this will matter for the Democrats if Obama doesn't grow a pair and pound Romney.And Mitt is 'poundable'.
It's up to the president. If he doesn't then he deserves what he gets.

I bet it is empty more than being full. who is supposed to pay for PUC and such??.... Do the teams have to "rent" the fields?? How are they supposed to pay for it?? Seems really stupid to spend all that money on something "NON PROFIT ORGANIZIONS" can't afford to use!!

Teams have to rent it if they are looking for practice times. Multiple leagues will run winter leagues at the field. Each team in any given league is respnsible for teams fees which they collect from each player....these fees pay for the games the league has to book at the facility.

OK, I correct my original statement. It was Mitt Romney's partner in crime, Paul Ryan that referred to Wisconsin and Canada as being overseas. I guess Mitt and Paul are geographically challenged. I have been away, so haven't kept up with View Room. I am making a comment on teachers. I believe that they should be entitled to bargaining, that's a given, but they should also be considered "Essential". A nurse, fireman, paramedic can't strike because they are considered "Essential services". Well the teachers say that they look after your child during a day more than a parent does. I have an empty nest. If bargaining is taken away, so it will be with other proffessions. Now the teachers want to take a "PAUSE" because it's all volunteer work Well what about that hockey coach, baseball coach, soccer coach, and any of those coaches out there; convenors, the person who takes the time to make schedules. Those people may not have any children playing sports, but they volunteer. These people don't get paid. And more than LIKELY coach some of those teachers children. So, I think those teachers should take a hard long look at what they are doing. Between the Liberals and the teachers, the students are being ignored. THEY are the loosers in this conflict.
Some of those teachers are taking this into their classroom, and as far as I can remember, teacher/government conflicts were not part of the curriculum. I know that this is going on as I have a granddaughter who talked about it. Politics should be banned from classrooms, that kind anyway.

Apparently the 14 year old girl in Pakistan that was shot by some Taliban fanatic is surviving but remains in critical condition.
When I first heard about this attempt on her life I felt angry....I felt intense hate, but now I am just sad and numb. It is soul numbing to think that the human race is capable of such acts.
She is not my daughter, I have no connection to her , I am far removed from her life-sphere but the more I think of this the more I come to believe that we as human beings are not as evolved as we'd like to think we are.
Acts like this make me long for a God....any God...even though deep down I sense that there is no such thing.

The U.S. must ensure that they have completed what they started, training of the Afghan forces, slow withdrawal of U.S. troops to ensure the security of what has been gained.

Why would ask such a question, it was done in the name of religion, namely Islam. Just as there are moderate Christians, Jews, Catholics and, yes, Muslims too, there are so many others who are radicals and take everything at it's written word, and you cannot, must not, dispute the word of "The Prophet". When you life is ruled by a religion, you have few options. I could say a lot more but then I am accused of being biased. I just hope and pray the girl survives, and they find the person who did this and allow the girls family members a few minutes alone to talk with him.

rw - just to clarify, I am basing my comments on the MANY statements made by Romney regarding international relations, stability in the Middle East, and his desire for a strong military lead me to conclude that he wishes to increase military activity. Which, again confuses me because that negates any attempts to improve the economy. Ryan's comment only served as a reinforcement to my previous observations - and a little memory jogger.

Flyhawk is confusing nominal Christians with real Christians.
Statusquo is waiting for the human race to evolve. He'll see it evolve into something worse before it finally does get better, and now the EU receives the Nobel Peace Prize. Such irony, first Yasser Arafat, then Barack Obama, and now the European Union, the embryo of Germany's forthcoming empire.
