(Sootoday.com received the following letter from Joanne Drake
Community Development Coordinator, Donor Services Canadian Blood Services)

Canadian Blood Services welcomed 265 donors who attended the blood donor clinic at the Verdi Hall in Sault Ste. Marie on October 9th & 10th.  To the residents of Sault Ste. Marie, thank you for rolling up your sleeves to donate blood. It is because of your generosity that we were able to collect 240 units of blood over the two day blood donor clinic, thus saving many lives.  Making a blood donation after the long weekend helps ensure an adequate supply for those in need.

We understand that some donors who attended this clinic did experience delays and were not able to complete their blood donation in the expected one hour timeframe.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.  We also wish to assure you that Canadian Blood Services is working hard to ensure that at future clinics, donors are not subject to such delays and can complete their donation in about an hour.

To the first time donors who visited our clinic, we look forward to seeing you again and invite you to bring along a friend to donate.  In order to meet demand for blood and blood products, we must recruit 89,600 new donors for this year (2012/2013).  By 2015, that number will grow to 100,000 new donors annually as the Canadian population ages and some of our loyal donors may be users of blood products, so thank you for taking that first step in becoming a lifelong donor.
