Good morning everyone, a little frost on the pumpkin this A.M. Shakey and Status when you look around it has to be hard not to believe in a supreme being. That said along comes a maroon like Steely and it makes one question everything including evolution. By the way Steely I build floors not swab them. I'll see if I can find you a position doing that if you can qualify. Have a great day everyone.

Grump...In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth and all that is seen and unseen..that being said..does it not stand to reason that God being God took into account the changes that occur in enviroment where his creations exist? Change is inevitable? I would think so.
After all he created it! So it would stand to reason that God being God would have made his creations with the ability to adapt and change. We call it evolution and God has had it in the plan from the beginning. God is good God is great he knew from the start to anticipate! My Theory of evolution.

skipper dave 10/7/2012 8:31:48 AM Report

Grump you should be ashamed of yourself picking on an obviously challenged person like Steely. He's trying, lord knows he's trying. Try this Grump it works for me with "Are Dubya" It's a psychological tool called substitution. Every time I want to tell RW to fu#k-off I stop myself and say "that's nice". See in my head I've said it but I still maintain my gentlemanly facade on the outside. For instance Steely's opening remark this morn would be met with a "that's nice". And no one on here is the wiser.
skipper dave 10/7/2012 8:36:25 AM Report

Grace with your goofy logic every schmuck with a $2 bible comes along and falls to his knees to pray to God to change his divine plan cause he don't like it. You might have better luck holding your teddy bear closer at night if that helps?
flyhawk25 10/7/2012 8:51:14 AM Report

'Tis a bright chilly northern Ontario morning.
I'm not smart enough to know the why of this beauty but I do think that it was not created by any church.
So I will continue to thank and praise God for making me a part of it.
Grace 10/7/2012 9:21:10 AM Report

Skipper..if it is so goofy then do you have a better explanation?
To the bible thumpers evolution is wrong and to the evolutionists bible thumpers are wrong...just to me they are both just not seeing what is staring them in the face. Both are right! God loves it when a plan comes together!

Aceofbass.. I live in the P patch and I will keep an eye out for your beloved pooch... I am a visiting nurse and drive all over town and I have been keeping your missing puppy in mind.

It is a beautiful day and I agree that some..thing, one, being , entity, or whatever is responsible for the beauty we are experiencing.

I am not a church goer but I am a good person and I do "embrace" a "Christian" attitude.

I for one do not need to be ensconced within a building to be part of a religion. There are a lot of people out there that do go to church and play at being some holier than thou person. Take them out of church and they are nothing but mean spirited hypocrites.

So I do my own thing.. and pray in my own way. I am very Thankful for every day that I am able to enjoy, for the people I have in my life and for the experiences that have molded me into the person I have become.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE :)

I have no clear idea of what God is really like or of what He or She expects of me. I have nevertheless always believed that some such being exists because there simply has to be something better somewhere and somehow than the abundant jerks who surround us at every level of society. Like a Wolf Cub, I simply try to “do my best” at all times, which is in no way intended to imply that I am perfectly satisfied with what I have been able to accomplish in life to date.
Grump 10/7/2012 12:17:39 PM Report

Grace I don't understand lefty thinking either as I don't get the extreme right. I try to keep it down the middle as much as possible. I do veer a little right on fiscal things and veer a little left on social issues. Good money management is important but not at the expense of taking care of everyone. Re religion, my wife and I don't belong to the same Church and I don't think where you go or don't go is as important as doing your best and having some faith. Enjoy the Holiday everyone.

skipper dave 10/7/2012 12:22:01 PM Report

Grace there is no magic in science, you are confusing the two diametrically opposed views. All the magic lives in the myth of religion. He created the world in six days then he rested. Really, was he tired? I tend to believe in things I can see, oh I don't know, it satisfies the skeptic in me! So pardon me if I find it a stretch to worship a god that is all loving but is quite prepared to condemn me to hell for ever if I happen to be stirred by how well you fill out a pair of jeans. Oh I forgot that's the other guy, Satan (the bogy man)
All Is Well 10/7/2012 12:53:02 PM Report

The gaming hobby of a political candidate has become an issue in a state senate race in New England, US.
Maine Republicans have created a webpage revealing that Democrat candidate Colleen Lachowicz plays an orc rogue in World of Warcraft (WoW).
Ms Lachowicz's liking for back-stabbing and poison in WoW raise questions about her "fitness for office", they claim.
As part of its campaign efforts, the Republican party in the state created "Colleen's World" - a website that compiles information about Ms Lachowicz's orc rogue Santiaga. An orc is a mythical human-like creature, generally described as fierce and combative.
In a statement that accompanies the webpage, Maine Republicans said playing the game led Ms Lachowicz to live a "bizarre double life" that raised questions about her ability to represent the state.
The page also detailed some of the comments Ms Lachowicz has made while talking about her orc rogue, in particular it highlights her affection for Santiaga's ability to stab things and kill people without suffering a jail sentence.
"I think it's weird that I'm being targeted for playing online games," said Ms Lachowicz in a statement. "Apparently I'm in good company since there are 183 million other Americans who also enjoy online games.
"Instead of talking about what they're doing for Maine people, they're making fun of me for playing video games," said Ms Lachowizc.
Ah, US elections never cease to amaze. What will the Republicans think of next?

Hey happy thanksgiving every one. Happy to report all went well at Hilton Beach haulout yesterday, proving once again sailors are a hearty breed. My stepson and I got the elderly lady to the dock in forty knot gusts and Spelly's gang did the rest. The crane lifted her out of the water and the men put her on hardwood blocks and supported with jack stands. Now guys stick your fingers in your ears for the next part. My mechanic came on board (my spouse) and winterized the engine by draining the block and filters, removing the thermostat then sucking two gallons of plumbers antifeeze thru the block, removed the marine batteries and cracked open the cylinder head cocks. I helped by passing her the tools. Some day she says she will show me how it's done!

So you believe in science, good, so do I, love it actually.
I find that some folks that claim to an alliance to science (it rhymes), know diddly squat about it when you discuss it.
As an example, Einsteins theory of Relativity.
When brought up I like asking which one, special or general, it quickly spares one a conversation of bullshit.
So skippy, since you have things figured out without a doubt, how do you differentiate between "junk science" and the real stuff, the same way you separate "junk religion" from the concept of a creator of all that is....there isn't any?
nanag 10/7/2012 2:00:32 PM Report

I needed a quote one day to insert into a discussion (argument) so I went searching for one for future possible use and came across the one below....at times it may be usable here..(not meant to be directed at anyone in particular here today.. just sharing )

"We are all agreed that your theory is crazy. The question which divides us is whether it is crazy enough to have a chance of being correct. My own feeling is that it is not crazy enough".

Ace of Bass--I believe the name is Topsail Island.

The last time I went there for a walk I was scared off by fierce-looking dogs who were not on a leash.

I will not go back until they leash their dogs.

So--Topsail Island is not for leash-free dogs--at least in my opinion.

I have never found that Science, big bang theories or any knowledge neither proves nor disproves a creating force.
skipper dave 10/7/2012 3:04:57 PM Report

Some have faith in god, I have faith in Man - I don't pretend to be able to discuss science on the level of Stephen Hawkins or understand Physicists discussing worm holes. What I do have faith in is there are enough bright people like that who will come along to find us the answers to all our questions. So if your looking for my god take a look in the mirror. I don't believe in an after life and see no evidence of a christian god. I have one life and if it's lived well it's enough. Yesterday I spent the whole day hanging out with my thirteen year old stepson who just happens to love boats.

shakespeare

I have been an amateur astronomer for about 23 years now.
Astronomy is what led me into many other areas of science.
The big bang theory is a marvel of a theory is it not?
Trying to understand some theories of modern day science can be a monumental task to say the least.
Took me six months to read A Brief History Of Time by Stephen Hawking.
Reading the words is not the problem, but grasping some of what the guy is talking about....
It was reading about thermodynamics in this book that threw what I thought was a monkey wrench into the big bang theory.
In thermodynamics matter and energy can be neither created nor destroyed.
Energy and matter can be changed however from one form to another.
So to state that the universe was created from nothing, the big bang theory, goes against the theory of thermodynamics, no?
Something starting from nothing.
The Universe, prior to the big bang, is said to have been smaller than a pore on a humans skin, yet with the big bang space and the universe began to spread like the surface of a giant trampoline.
I get a kick out of the fact that folks that state they believe in science, will believe in this, yet throw the idea of a creator out the window all the while stating that they have an open mind.
Personally I think they need a "big bang" in their cranial cavity.

You don't come across as one that is incapable of self education.
You do not have to be a Stephen Hawking to understand a lot of this.
There is a mountain of information presented in videos, books, T.V. documentaries etc., that simplifies it so the average Joe can get it.
Check some of it out, but be careful, it can be like fishing, once you are hooked there is no stopping what might happen.
You just might move yourself up to an agnostic.

Grump 10/7/2012 3:42:31 PM Report

I just figure I'm here for 7 score and then some(hopefuly) and I do the best I can when I can and don't preach to others about what they do or don't do. When I grew up in a small town in southern Ontario the local plumber was running around with the ministers wife and everyone in town knew about it,just looked the other way, kinda if we ignore it it's not happening thing. That pretty much ruined my church going but people will believe what they want so who am I to say...:)

The Korah branch of the Public Library has been relocated to that building, too... there were people going in and out of that on Saturday.
Sam C 10/7/2012 5:15:58 PM Report

btw... a week or so ago someone was asking about ship's horn signals.

Yesterday, while taking a break down at the Marina, I watched to ACR sister-ships pass each other. One was downbound from the locks, the other upbound through the Sugar Island channel.

They obviously communicated their passage by radio, as there was no horn... until the moment they were side-by side. Then, the downbound ship sounded the 'passing to port' signal, which was repeated by the upbound ship.

From my vantage point of a couple of kilometres away, it appeared as though the horn signal was used more just for fun than as something required.

I am a firm believer that science will eventually prove that all that is, is part of intelligent creation.
We are on the cusp of so many wonderful discoveries.
Look at just the last 150 years, electricity, the light bulb, the printing press, television, mass communications, splitting an atom, space flight, DNA, the Genome, the list is endless and gets longer, faster, as time goes on.
We have not even scratched a small corner of the surface.

I think we all as a tribe realize that time is changing, the world around us is gently getting ready for the winter and the crops are in.
In eight days there will be no moon light.
As sophisticated as we think we are we naturally know that it is time to pause and give thanks for whatever bounty this planet has afforded us.
