So discounted insurance for the school boards requires that there be a board representative at all school functions.

Okay, so one solution would be to have principals and vice principals fill in when teachers throw bargaining tantrums and hold school soccer teams hostage. The other solution, and I think more practical one, would be to get the more expensive insurance that does not require a board representative and then reduce teacher, principal and vice principal salaries to make up for the added insurance cost.

And gee, I hope the other public service members whose salary are being frozen don't stop volunteering as soccer coaches.

By Your Leave..

Principals and Vice-principals are usually too busy to handle extra curriculars.

As far as the insurance goes....I'm sure taxpayers would be happy to pay for the more expensive one.

....and by the way...the type of insurance (and coverage) is mandated by the province. I doubt if paying more is even an option ... I don't think many parents would want to 'sign on the dotted line' to accept liability...nor would they want to go though the vetting process the insurance would want to put them through in order to determine they were a good choice.

"Yours is a knee jerk anti-union statement with the accent on the second part of the word."

I also followed your dialogue and found you to be none of those regardless of who was right or wrong.
I believe one of the funniest lines was Big Bro telling you, after the Apple Dumpling gang gave you their best, that you were losing credibility.
Ha!
If that's not a perfect example of true glaring hypocrisy I don't know what is.
You have just been "punk'd" by the "Three Amigo's" behaving exactly like true lefties.
Don't you know that when they tell you something you are not to question it and when they present you with their "facts" you are not to question "them", I mean how dare you!

You are simply to state:

"I was wrong; I'm sorry"

Principals are busy, and I'd like to see you tell your 'relatives' that they're not.

I am not certain how you expect a Principal to be 3 or 4 different places at once. Club meetings at the school, volleyball practice in gym 1, basketball in gym 2, and a football game at John Rhodes.

When you figure it out, let me know. I'm sure the ADSB would be very interested.

By the way, no activities at my daughter's high school have been interrupted, except for concern there will be no 'competition' as ADSB schools aren't fielding teams in the less 'prestigious' sports.

Speaking of farm animals it was reported in the news yesterday that in 2013 there will be a world wide shortage of bacon and other pork products. The recent drought in the US has driven up the price of corn.
It takes 170 dollars to raise a pig, 130 dollars to feed it, so pig farmers are losing 40 dollars per pig.
Time to stock pile that bacon folks.

Nunavut 9/27/2012 12:50:58 PM Report

For anyone that is dealing with developers building adjacent to your properties. You should know that the developer cannot configure the landscape so that the new house lot drains onto your property. They must make swales and drain to new catch basins they must plan for, or they must have the lots drain to the street or otherwise. I had this battle with a prominent house developer in Sault that rhymes with Calran. But with pictures and visit from city inspector the developer was forced to install swales to catch basins.
So whether it is Queensgate or Crimson Ridge, be aware of your rights, because I see the developers continue to try to bypass that, (like it looks like they did to a few Murial Drive folks)
Also I am told you and city inspector can only enforce this on the developer before they sell house , it is too late if you wait till a citizen buys the house.
Wheels17 9/27/2012 1:02:30 PM Report

I thought that the Queensgate Golf Course was already closed and that the property was free game to the developer.

Freudian slip

A verbal or written flub-up in which one says what one really meant, rather than what one meant to say, by accidentally adding or subtracting a word or substituting a similar word that means something that indicates what one really thinks. The application has already gone into the OMB and I'm sure it will be passed on it's merit. Rumour has it that one of the main NIMBYs requested free property and building which was of course turned down. I'm always amazed that some folks think that they are realy that important. This project was something that City Staff had approved but we are served by the usual politicians who make their choices for votes not merit.

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but the golf course land the developer owns at Queensgate is zoned Parks and Recreation. Grump 9/27/2012 6:35:29 PM Report

Ernest R The difference is that all the land (golf course and building lots) was owned by the developer and he asked to have it zoned accordingly. The golf course didn't work out so he has asked to have it rezoned to residential. I suspect there are somewhere between 50 and 100 lots on there. So take taxes at probably 4 to 5000 per year to the City and you can see where this is going to go. This is prime serviced land within the city. Seems like a win win to me except for the NIMBYS. Now had the Nimbys stepped up and offered to pay the taxes etc on this property over the years they might have some small say in its use.

Thanks Grump. If you own land you can have it zoned however you want?
Grump 9/27/2012 6:47:51 PM Report

The point was that it was not public parkland and reasonable request or not you can see how the City and the OMB will likely view it. It is hardly like someone buying public parkland that is an expense to the city and trying to change the use of your own property that you are being taxed on.
