Yes I love the internet, research, reading, googling and all the facts that are at hand.
Facts that can be supported by various sources.
1969 to 2003, almost 5,600 people lost their lives and more than 16,300 people suffered injuries due to international terrorism directed at the United States.
The fact that the threat of transnational terrorism was widely recognized by the IC [intelligence community] and policymakers, virtually no initiatives were taken to address the deep-seated limitations of U.S. strategic intelligence that made it an inadequate instrument for meeting its threat.
The U.S. for over four decades became an increasing target of terrorism that was blatantly ignored by it's leaders in Washington.
During the Bush years a forging of national homeland security enterprise composed of federal, state, and local assets, as well as private citizens emerged after the 9/11 attacks.
As a result, law enforcement has foiled at least 39 terror plots since 9/11. Simply put, the intelligence and law enforcement communities are better able to track down leads in local communities than they were on September 10, 2001.
Since 9/11, and the Bush administrations aggressive approach to terrorist activities both at home and abroad, the attacks against the United States at home have become non-existent and abroad have dramatically dropped.
Now I wonder if Obama had that thought in his head as he stood and so proudly bragged about "getting Bin-Laden".
We shall now hear from the lefties that the the U.S. created Bin-Laden and got "what they deserved".
They were all just peaceful sheep herders until the U.S., hungry for oil, caused all of this.

The USA supplied arms and funding for Bin Laden to fight the Russians in Afganhistan and when the Russians pulled out the USA droped him like the piece of camel dung that he was. Any moron would at the least keep a close eye on him but no Bush Lite chose to ignore warnings and gave Bin Laden a clear shot for 9/11. Second part, it took Obama to go and take care of that business. rw I'll await your frothy take on this.

Bush Jr. would not have changed a thing if 911 hadn't happened. Obama hasn't changed much in the way of intelligence policy since he became President.
The USA has had it's nose in everyone else's business for decades. It's too costly (money and lives) so it may be time for a healthy round of isolationism.

He fails to mention that he is one of the reasons that happened.Because he really does believe in trickle-down economics and the divine right of the rich to rule.

12 of those federal jobs are being moved out of the Sault, out of our community and it will cost each and everyone of us with less service. Not only that but tons more money. These positions are still there but they (Harper) - wants to shut the sault down.

For the jobs that are not being cut - Hayes needs to get off his ass and keep those jobs here. I heard all it would take would be a phone call to the assistant deputy minister and he has refused to save any jobs. He is just letting them go!

I wasn't referring to isolationism as a problem. I think of it more as a pulling back of the tentacles they have spread into far too many countries.
There will come a time when the voices of the neo-cons will be overpowered by those that just want the USA to MYOB for a little while.
It happened in the past.
A civil war...maybe. But I think the trigger will be a general collapse of the worldwide money system. Maybe a huge solar storm that knocks out all electrical systems for 6 months or so. That would put rich and poor on the same footing. The poor would actually have an advantage, as they have always had to live with little.
...Now I'm going to put my tinfoil hat away...

Also, history observed from the receiving end of the stick can look vastly different than is presented on The History Channel.
Open your eyes and mind and truly reflect on your own before you post right wing biased propaganda.
I have been known to froth and spew left wing propaganda occasionally. However, I believe that the truth is somewhere in between or as of late, completely elusive.
I am 100% certain that if Obama was Republican you would defend him and his actions come hell and high water.
Not once, have you ever remotely applauded anything from a liberal politician on either side of the border. How can that be?
Myself, I have stated before that I thought Richard M. Nixon was one of the better Presidents the U.S had and also that J.F.K was not.
Both Bill Clinton and George H. Bush (senior) did well, under the circumstances.
(i.e inheriting an economic nightmare after 8 years of `Reaganomics`,
also known as `vodoo economics)A free for all , unregulated disaster cooked up by a B Actor.
W. Bush (junior) on the other hand , was a total disaster economically, and utterly destroyed
the good will and support the U.S enjoyed after 9/11.
But all you can come up with is this hubris based pablum, force fed to you about a birth certificate and faux employment numbers by firms run and abandoned by Romney.

Very well thought out and expressed Stats. You've presented a well balanced thesis, once again. BUT, my gut tells me that a balanced approach , with some, is viewed as a weakness in conviction. A so-called 'fence sitter'. 'If your not with us, you're against us' mentality. Compromise is weakness to these types. They are not happy till your down in the dirt with them slugging it out. Then they can point the finger back and say 'you did it too'!
To me, it feels somewhat like trying to rationalize with a child in the throws of a tantrum.

If the Canadian government would release information about their budget implementation, then we could talk about something different. Cutting spending $35 Billion over 5 yrs. and telling Canadians they won't notice anything, is real smoke and mirrors. But, at least, I don't have to register all my guns. Perhaps we should talk about the ReformaCons and their total disregard for democracy.

One could go further back in history to make my point, but let us start with Spain. When it controlled most of the wealth of the Indies, the pirates of other countries including England and France were continually plundering it. When Napoleon was top banana in Europe, most of the rest of that continent, including England and Spain, were against him. When Britannia ruled the waves, the rest of the world including the United States, which adored twisting the British lion’s tail, envied and detested England. Since the end of the Second World War, the USA has been top banana of our planet and is currently envied and hated by most of it. Israel’s problems with the Muslim World are not essentially religious, but because of its existence which the latter consider to be an unjustified land grab. The Muslim World’s hatred of the USA stems mostly from the latter’s support of Israel and just plain envy shared by a substantial portion of the rest of our globe.
Sir Wilfrid Laurier once predicted that “The Twentieth Century belongs to Canada.” If that dream had become a reality, most other countries would hate and envy us as much as they now do the USA. That’s simply the way of the world.

Let us take a trip down memory lane with the voting record of our former city Councillor MP Bryan Hayes.
At the 2005 Budget, voted to reduce increased snow removal
from $500,000 to $124,650, a cut of 75%. He has no problems cutting essential
services AND raising taxes.
Hardly conservative!
Funding outside agencies such as the Innovation Centre, using your tax money to help 61
employees of the City make $100,000 plus a year, approving millions in irresponsible cost overruns and helping drive up the city’s debt .

Voted to give core funding to the Innovation Centre in the 2006
Budget, adding an annual levy on residential tax bill.
Innovation Centre was
supposed to be self-sufficient in 5 years. Since 1999, they have received Millions.
· Supported 233% increase to Council’s travel budget allowance. Hardly Conservative!
· Supported hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxpayer money for multimodal studies in the last decade that have amounted to virtually nothing!
· Supported a decade of world travel for former mayor to essentially do the job the EDC is funded to do. Did not ask for follow up reports on most of
the trips which resulted in no tangible economic benefit to the city
· Supported taking $6.5 million from capital works project (road repair)
in 2005 and using that to pay for Second Line truck route, whose cost overruns were $5.2 million. The $6.5 million was not used for road repair in 2005.
· Supported $5.2 million cost overruns on the truck route

Been there. Changed a few lances over the years. I think I know what I'm talking about. Two hours in the shack would be hard for anyone, listening to all the experts rattle on about how lazy those government workers are. All this while hiding from the foreman, should he have a job for them to do. Sound familiar steely. Yup, 2 hours in 2 shop is called lunch break!!

I have a hard time listening to the 'resident expert' talk about the lazy 'others' whose livelihoods are on the line. Hypocrisy is the only word I can find to describe it. I have been there and steely knows that I know. Sounds too much like Mitt (the silver spooned one) and his 47% rule; never got his hands dirty in his life and has zero repect for those who have.
Now steely, file a grievance against me for disparaging a 'union brother'. Oh, you are against unions.

It's "have"...... Must "have" been. And "maintenance". I know it's hard to switch to proper English when wearing a cap with a fertilizer logo embossed on it.

What has MP Hayes done to keep his current job?
All we hear from him is the conservative script tow the party line. He was a CAO puppet now he is just another back row bench-er in the nose bleed seats of the House of Commons.
What were we thinking when we elected this guy?
Where is the Sea Port for the Sault MP Hayes?
Where are all your promises you made to get elected?
All we get is Federal Job reductions here in the backwoods of Northern Ontario. Fed Job reductions in Ottawa and TO would make more sense.
We knew what we got from Tony,MP Hayes we expected more. What is your excuse for not producing?

Apparently, Egypt has issued arrest warrants for two Canadian men, from Toronto and Montreal , respectively, for being involved with the utterly ridiculous "Mohammad" movie.
Whether or not they were involved in making this irrelevant, amateurish piece of crap is irrelevant!
The reaction in the Muslim world, orchestrated or not is totally unacceptable!
I know and am well aware that any excuse to rail the uneducated masses against big bad "Amrika" and the Zionist Jews is exploited to the max by powers that know better, but to even foster the idea that this Egyptian arrest warrant has any legal basis is ludicrous.
If Allah is not man enough to withstand some criticism than he certainly is not man enough to be God!
I am working on a movie script myself called "Broke Back Dune" where Mohammad and another male friend venture into the desert and some lovings ensue. The poor camels witness and are abhorred and psychologically scarred by the unspeakable acts of unbridled man to man love.

Before I forget,
I am an atheist and have equal regard (or lack thereof) for Christianity and Islam and whatever other freak cult you'd like to throw into the mix.
What bothers me intensely is that we somehow accept the innate irritability of Muslims when it comes to fundamental questions.
Salman Rushdie had to go into hiding for the "Satanic Verses", Theo Van Gough, a Dutch director was stabbed to death in Amsterdam , Ayaan Hirsi Ali, an incredibly articulate and intelligent writer from Somalia and outspoken feminist and human rights activist is living under protection in the U.S due to threats to her life by Islamic radicals..and the list goes on.
This is simply not acceptable!
If you need a God in your life, that is fine by me. But please, leave me out of it.
If I insult your religion, I am sure your God will punish me with or without your help. Thank you and come again!

Thinking of working in Sean Penn and/or Meryl Streep...she can vocalize a camel accent so well.....
Ben Kingsley would make a credible Mohammad. Although, Clint Eastwood would fit in with the vengeful one...you know...."make my day" and such...unless he is involved in a deep discussion with a chair....

My goodness Ace that was a good post which is a huge departure from some of the crap you used to come out with. Keep up the good work and you are certainly right that Hayes was a dud and still is. Politically the Sault just keeps shooting its self in the foot again and again. That said with some of the bright bulbs on here it is no small wonder.
