Sault College Students Shine

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON August 31, 2012) For the second consecutive year, Sault College students will wrap up their frosh week by washing cars in an effort to find a cure for cystic fibrosis. The Sault College Students' Union (SCSU) will be hosting Sault Ste. Marie's Shine Day Car Wash on Saturday, September 8th, 2012 from 11:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in front of Sault College's Essar Hall on Northern Avenue.

Shine Day is in support of Shinerama, the largest post-secondary fundraiser in our nation. All proceeds from Shinerama go to Cystic Fibrosis Canada, a world leading non-government organization dedicated to finding a cure and supporting those who suffer from cystic fibrosis.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a disease affecting the lungs and digestive system. It is the most common, fatal, genetic disease affecting young Canadians. Many compare living with CF to the sensation of only being able to breathe through a straw.

“In the 1960s, children diagnosed with cystic fibrosis did not even live long enough to attend kindergarten. Today, many of them are able to go to the very universities and colleges that have been fighting for them for almost 50 years through Shinerama,” said Maureen Adamson, President and CEO, Cystic Fibrosis Canada. “There is still so much more to do. Every week in Canada, two children are diagnosed and one person dies of the disease.”

The Sault College Shiners will have a few honoured guests in attendance including Steve Butland (Ward One Council Member), Pat Mick (Ward Three Council Member), and Leo Tiberi (Sault College VP Academic).

Shine Day will also feature a chance to pet and have pictures taken with the 'Shinerama Llamas'.
