The Home Depot Raises $1954 to Support Affordable Housing
Sault Ste. Marie, ON (July 27, 2012) The Home Depot Canada Foundation and The Home Depot Sault Ste. Marie are pleased to announce a very special grant to Habitat for Humanity Sault Ste. Marie & Area. The $1954 grant will support affordable housing initiatives led by this affiliate.
“What makes this community contribution most meaningful is that it came from the generous donations of customers who purchased a paper hammer for $2 at The Home Depot in Sault Ste. Marie as part of the Buy a Hammer, Build Our Community campaign, “said Peg Hunter, chair, board of directors, The Home Depot Canada Foundation and vice president, marketing and e-commerce, The Home Depot Canada. “Thanks to the generous support of our customers across the country, we raised more than $770,000. This will allow our charitable partners to deliver important programs and help improve the lives of Canadians in need.”
Today’s grant complements the support The Home Depot Canada Foundation provides to Habitat for Humanity as part of their national partnership. Through their Sustainable Housing Grant program, The Home Depot Canada Foundation made grants to 15 Habitat affiliates across Canada in support of their sustainable, energy-efficient home building projects. In addition, The Foundation is also a supporter of Habitat for Humanity Canada’s 360 Built Smart Partnership program.
From May 31st until July 4th, The Home Depot customers were able to purchase a ‘Paper Hammer’ for $2 at the checkout of any The Home Depot store across Canada. Customers could also make donations online. Since 2007, the Buy a Hammer, Build Our Community campaign has raised more than $2.5-million helping improve support to local communities.
