Highland Ford and Northern Ontario Mustang Club to Raise as much as $10,000 for the Military Families Fund

Second Annual innovative test-drive event will yield much-needed money for Military Families Fund

Sault Ste. Marie, ON, June 8, 2012 – Highland Ford Sales Ltd is bringing Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited’s innovative Drive One 4 UR Community program to the Sault Ste. Marie community in an effort to raise up to $10,000 for the Military Families Fund. For every person who test-drives a Ford vehicle at Highland Ford on Saturday, June 16th, 2012, Highland Ford and Ford of Canada will donate $20 to the Military Families Fund.

“We know how important our troops are to our country and our community, and as part of this community, we want to help,” said Darren Smyl, Dealer Principal at Highland Ford. “This is our second year holding this event and we are honoured to continue our partnership with Northern Ontario Mustang Club in raising money for the Military Families Fund, meanwhile introducing drivers to our high-quality line-up and innovative safety technologies.” The event, which will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. will feature the Ford Focus, Fiesta, Mustang, Edge, Explorer, F-150 and other available models.

As part of the activities, the Northern Ontario Mustang Club will be hosting a car show featuring customized, classic and antique Mustangs and other Ford/Mercury/Lincoln vehicles. M&M Meats will also host a barbecue.  Proceeds from the barbeque will also go to the Military Families Fund.

Since the start of Ford’s Drive One 4 UR School and Community programs in 2010, more than 25,000 test-drives at more than 160 events have generated over $460,000 in donations for high schools and organizations in Canada.

In addition to raising much-needed revenue for high school extracurricular activities and community organizations and projects, the program gives participants the chance to experience Ford’s exciting new vehicles and leading safety technologies, including: SYNC and BLIS

  • SYNC®, the fully integrated, in-vehicle voice-activated communications and entertainment system with 911 Assist, helps drivers keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road;
  • Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®) with Cross Traffic Alert, which uses radar to check the blind spot and helps notify the driver of approaching traffic when backing out of a parking spot;

To participate, please visit Highland Ford, 68 Great Northern Road between 10:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 16th, 2012.

Participants must be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license. There is a limit of one test-drive per household.
