Focus on the Future: A look at the Canadian Society of Cinematographers

SUDBURY, ON- Music and Film in Motion (MFM) is pleased to announce its next Taking it to the Stage & Screen (TSS) “Getting to Know the Canadian Society of Cinematographers” (CSC).

Founded in 1957, the CSC promotes the art and craft of cinematography and provides tangible recognition of the common bonds that link film and video professionals, from the aspiring student and camera assistant to the news veteran and senior director of photography.

The guest speakers will be CSC President Joan Hutton and CSC Executive Director Susan Saranchuk. This is a great opportunity for local filmmakers to learn more about the services offered by the Canadian Society of Cinematographers.

Saranchuk is a recipient of the 2005 Fuji Film Award. She was the Awards Chair for the CSC for several years and was recently named the society’s first Executive Director. Hutton, who became one of the first female camerapersons in Canada, specializes in commercials, drama, and documentaries. In 1999, 1995 and1989 she won the CSC Best Documentary Award, and is a multiple Gemini nominee and award winner. Some of her credits include “Hitman Hart Wrestling with Shadows”, “The Newsroom”, “For Richer for Poorer”, and “The Famine Within”.

The TSS session, free for members and $5 for non-members, will be taking place at Music and Film in Motion, located at 45 Durham St., suite 105, in Sudbury on November 16th from 7 pm to 9 pm. For more information or to register for this session, please call MFM at 705-674-9954 or visit the website at www.thinknorth.ca. Space is limited so please book ahead to reserve a place.

Taking it to the Stage and Screen is a program that presents local artists with the opportunity to gain feedback, learn from others, network, showcase new material and express new ideas in a relaxed atmosphere.

MFM is a non-profit organization whose mandate is to foster and promote the development of the film and music industries in Northern Ontario.
