The end of civilization is upon us.

Disease has run rampant across the city, and confirmed sightings of the undead have significantly increased over the past several months.

On Saturday, October 24, 2015, Sault Ste. Marie's most anticipated annual Halloween event, the Soo Zombie Walk, returns for its seventh year, and it'll be up to a small resistance force to prevent this epidemic from spreading any further.

Janna Goulay-Pond, who has been a part of the Soo Zombie Walk as a make-up artist and coordinator from its inception, considers the Soo Zombie Walk one of Sault Ste. Marie’s most unique and exciting annual events.

"The Soo Zombie Walk is a fantastic event for Halloween and horror lovers of all ages," she says. "Each year, we see more and more families and children coming out to enjoy the Soo Zombie Walk. It’s great to see so many different people coming together to enjoy being zombies for the day."

These zombies, as usual, are not only looking for brains, but donations.

To participate, registrants aged 11 and over are asked to bring one canned good as well as a $3 admission to be part of the activities and the walk, while supervised children aged 10 and under are expected to bring a canned good.

All canned goods are donated to the Soup Kitchen Community Centre to feed Sault Ste. Marie’s hungry.

The event will start at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre at 4 p.m.

Participants can register at the door then enjoy two hours of pre-Zombie Walk activities, including live music, artisans and vendors, tasty treats, face painting by Perfectly Painted Faces, and zombie photography by Melissa Connors.

Participants are encouraged to dress up as either zombies or resistance (zombie hunters) and secret judges will be on the lookout for creative costumes!

Dirk Becker of Sykotyk Rampage has coordinated the music for this year's walk.

During the pre-walk festivities, Terry Becker, Greg Callaghan, Aggressive Acoustic and Sykotyk Rampage will be performing spooky sets to enthral the horde.

As a new feature this year, participants can pick up a passport at the door to be stamped while completing fun games and activities around the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre.

Completed passports will be entered into a draw for a zombie-rific prize.

At 6 p.m., the walk will commence.

The undead will lurch from the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre along Bay Street towards Clergue Park, where the resistance will try to fend off the zombie herd.

The walk will continue onto Queen Street before participants return to the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre for closing ceremonies.

Prizes for best costumes will also be awarded following the walk.

After the walk, participants aged 19 and over, are invited to the Zombie Walk After Party at Coch's Corner starting at 9 p.m. where they can see Zombie Walk bands rock out with some fresh tunes.

The cover charge to enjoy this spooktacular night of music is only $2 and another canned food item for the Soup Kitchen Community Centre.
