Jann Arden just may have the cutest canine friend in the Canadian music industry.

She also has one of the most stunning voices in the nation.

As the multi-Juno Award winning songstress opened the 43rd annual Algoma Fall Festival Thursday night at the Community Theatre Centre, Arden delivered her signature and winning combination of ravishing vocals and sharp wit.

“We’re really happy to be here. We have a seven and a half hour set for you tonight,” she announced early into her performance to thunderous applause.

“You won’t say that when you have to pee,” she replied.

The night’s setlist included her own I Would Die For You, Insensitive, and Good Mother, and covers of The Beach Boys’ In My Room and Janis Ian’s At Seventeen.

The Algoma Fall Festival continues with screenings of Painted Land: In Search of the Group of Seven as well as an accompanying exhibition on Friday and Saturday, October 2 and 3 at the Machine Shop.

Other scheduled festival events include Jane Bunnett and Maqueque on October 15, and Shaun Majumder with Abdul Butt on October 30.
