IN YOUR EYES PROJECTS

*************************
In Your Eyes Projects is a new theatre company in Sault Ste. Marie created by stage directors Loretta Durat and Joseph Lauzon.

They have directed a broad variety of productions individually for 25 years and have collaborated extensively across the last 10, including Les Miserables (Musical Comedy Guild) and the award winning productions, That Summer and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (Theatre SMC).

In Your Eyes Projects is a partnership inspired by those moments that make live entertainment a unique and dynamic experience.

Joseph states that, “There are opportunities for shared moments between audience and performer when they journey together exploring the experience of being alive. At its best, it is intimate, stimulating and bold.”

“The name, ‘In Your Eyes Projects’ is inspired by those visceral moments and our firm belief that the audience is the most important member of any theatrical company.”

IYE will be presenting three provocative productions that have garnered worldwide attention and are considered to be formative works in modern theatre.

The inaugural season includes: David Mamet’s Oleanna (autumn), Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage (winter) and Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot (spring).

Mamet’s Oleanna stands out as one of the most engaging works in modern theatre.

“I can’t think of another play that inspires such strong and surprisingly diverse interpretations provoking rampant discussion and debate among audience members,” Loretta says. “Mamet’s postmodern script embraces the ideal that the action and the truth of the play actually takes place in the mind of the audience and not merely on the stage. Or as Mamet would say ‘in the eye of the beholder.’”

David Mamet’s highly controversial play Oleanna, about the power of language, miscommunication, excessive political correctness and sexual politics will be presented at Algoma University in October.

The presentation, directed by Loretta Durat and Joseph Lauzon, will be a collaboration between In Your Eyes Projects and Theatre Algoma and will feature actors Alex Briglio and Brent Vallee.

God of Carnage will be mounted in the New Year and helmed by the co-artistic directors, while Waiting for Godot will be staged in the spring under the direction of Richard Howard, artistic director of Pull-Chain Theatre Company.

Joseph recalls: “Productions at Pull-Chain have inspired and challenged the way many approached theatre in Northern Ontario, so we are very excited to see Richard’s version of Godot.”

In Your Eyes Projects is also exploring ways of making a night out at the theatre a celebration of the creative talent in Sault Ste. Marie.

“Before a show and during intermission and afterwards, there are opportunities to further engage an audience. We are inviting local visual artists and musicians to share their work during those times at every performance.”

Loretta maintains that, “With the incredible amount of skilled artists in this city, it only makes sense to showcase them and provide a stimulating night at the theatre for the audience from the moment they enter the space.”

In Your Eyes Projects invite and encourage collaborators, including local visual artists, musicians, actors, directors, writers, production team and backstage crew to name a few, to contact them regarding these and future creative endeavours.

“We are new,” Joseph explains, “and we wish to reach out to those interested in creating and exploring. As we move forward, the company will be shaped by those who believe that the performing arts matter and are an integral part of our community.”

Tickets for all production will be sold at the KCTC Box Office in the Station Mall.
