A Sault sweep (sort of) at Northern Music Awards

It was a Sault Ste. Marie sweep (sort of) Saturday night as Music and Film in Motion hosted its Northern Ontario Music and Film Awards (NOMFA) ceremony in Sudbury.

Three Sault acts were given nominations, and those three Sault acts all took home awards.

Kalle Mattson won two of the three categories he was nominated in, bringing home hardware for Best Album By a Solo Artist (Someday, The Moon Will Be Gold) and Best Songwriter (A Love Song to the City).

No stranger to the NOMFAs, in 2012 Mattson won Album of the Year by a Duo or Group (Anchors) and a SOCAN Songwriter of the Year award for his song Singing Knives.

“It’s a real honour to win another two NOMFA awards,” Mattson told SooToday. “This record (Someday, The Moon Will Be Gold) means so much to me, for it to be recognized this way is so gratifying.”

Frank Deresti and the Lake Effect won Best Album By a Duo or Group for it's self-titled 2014 release.

And Sault Ste. Marie bluesman Rusty McCarthy was selected as Best Engineer for his work on Britta Wolfert's album Moonstone.
