B.B. King’s official website reports that he died peacefully in his sleep last night.

He was 89 years old.

In honour of the blues great, VM Radio has put together a playlist of King’s music that will run exclusively on VM Roots over the long weekend.

Born Sept. 16, 1925 on a Mississippi plantation, Riley B. King began recording in the 1940s and has since released more than 50 albums.

King was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame in 1984 and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

He played in the Michigan Sault at Kewadin Casino in 2013.

Read SooToday's coverage of that performance.
