NEWS RELEASE

SAULT YOUTH THEATRE

*************************
Registration is now open for the KCTC Summer Theatre Camp 2015 hosted by the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre in collaboration with The Sault Youth Theatre and guest company, To Be Determined Theatre Company from Guelph.

Learners as young as 7 years of age are invited to attend.

No experience or bug spray required.

For eight years KCTC and The Sault Youth Theatre have offered a safe, encouraging and inclusive theatre experience where learners may express themselves and grow in confidence under the direction of professional instructors.

The KCTC Summer Camp 2015 is thrilled to host guest artists/educators from To Be Determined Theatre Company who will be coming to our community with their most popular workshop, Swords & Stage (for ages 7-teen).

This week long camp provides an exciting opportunity for youth to explore theatre through active scenes while learning the basics of proper, safe stage combat.

Scenes and choreography will be adapted according to various skill and comfort levels, making the camp perfect for a broad range of ages.

At the end of the week the learners will showcase scenes they have chosen to work on from their favourite action movies (Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Robin Hood, Brave, to name a few) complete with costumes, props and acting technique.

This adventure - filled five day workshop running July 6-10 will be led by Alexandra Lent (workshop designer and TBD Artistic Director) and Andrew Nagel (TBD company member).

KCTC’s second camp, Acting for Musical Theatre offers challenges and a little too much fun!

This workshop will be conducted by a dynamic staff with over 90 years of combined teaching experience.

Coaches include Loretta Durat, Anthony Aceti, Joseph Lauzon and Carolyn Caputo-McCauley and Camp Director is Bob Cooper.

Students ages 9 - 15 will participate in ten exceptional days (July 13-24) of theatre exploration through acting workshops including: finding the natural voice/singing, improvisation, character work, movement, script work, the speaking voice, ensemble building and scene study.

Skills learned will bridge into a showcase performance of How to Eat Like A Child: And Other Lessons In Not Being A Grown-up, by Delia Ephron, a funny and honest musical theatre review about the joys and sorrows of being a “kid”.

It offers many speaking parts (scenes) and songs (from solos to choral) covering subjects such as how to beg for a dog, waiting for a ride, how to stay home from school and so on.

It is an ensemble piece with lots of opportunity for participation.

Placements are limited and registration will close when all spots are filled.

Just a reminder, receipts from the KCTC camps may be used to claim the Children’s Activity Tax Credit, which helps parents with the cost to register their children in organized activities.

Come out and play this summer at the KCTC!
