Since the beginning of October, 72 students (including stage crew) have rehearsed and rehearsed and then rehearsed some more in order to present this year's Rosedale Public School production of Pied Lourd (Stomp).

The 10th annual showcase features students from Grades 4 through 8 in a presentation conceptualized and developed by Mme Lynn Vallee, the original brains behind the event.

She draws from her theatrical and musical background to create the industrial percussion and dance productions, each based on a specific theme, this year's being 'steel'.

"I chose the steel theme to dedicate the show to those who made our economy what it is today," she told SooToday prior to rehearsal Monday afternoon. "This is something that I love and I've always wanted to go in that direction into the arts, so I did it through teaching."

The future of Pied Lourd is in question, however, as Vallee will retire at the end of this school year.

"I don't know if someone is going to take over," she said. "I'm thinking that maybe I'll volunteer and keep the show going. I'll make that decision in the near future."

Pied Lourd will have six showings open to the public - Tuesday and Wednesday, April 14 and 15 at 10 a.m., 12 noon and 6:30 p.m.

Admission is by donation with all proceeds going to support the production.
