While Hamilton's most infamous self-proclaimed 'fat lazy chud' is all of the above, BA Johnston could actually be one of the hardest working performers in Canada today.

He brought his one-man spectacle to Cafe Natura Wednesday evening and was in top BA form as he played guitar at a dizzying pace and a vintage Casio keyboard with his nose.

"I started my career as a promising singer-songwriter playing coffee houses in the late 70s. It feels good to come here decades later to play a gluten-free bakery," he joked to the audience.

He also, on more than one occasion, took jabs at the Sault's own Kalle Mattson, calling him Kalle Matheson and making fun of his FACTOR funding.

"Just got word that BA Johnston once again made fun of me at his SSM show tonight. Truly an honour," Mattson posted to Facebook that evening.

"Your dad said I had to, Bud," was BA's reply.

With backing tracks from a barely-operational disc man, BA busted out plenty of fan favourites and new tracks from his latest release Shit Sucks Wednesday night, including Sesame Street Fight, How Many T-Bone Steaks Can I Fit In My Pants, My Heart Is A Blinking Nintendo, Your Roommate's A Couchetard, Drinking On My Mom's Dime, I Have A Deep Frier In My Bedroom, I Don't Want To Go To No Frills, and BK Has A New King.

And throughout the performance, there were antics. Lots and lots of antics, many of them topless.

Traveling in his mom's Toyota Previa - yes, he actually lives with his mom - BA is currently on a cross-Canada tour in support of Shit Sucks with stops in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria and everywhere in between.

"[My mom] doesn't really know about much of what I do," BA told us following the show. "Because the Junos were in Hamilton, she was really sad that I wasn't invited. She clearly has no clue. She came to one show once, but they didn't have wine so she left."

Wednesday's BA Johnston performance was the first in a long line up of entertainment hosted in the coming weeks by Ears and Eyes at Cafe Natura.

This Saturday, April 4, Craig Cardiff will perform two shows at 2 and 8 p.m.
