They've won the battles. Who will win the war? (17 photos)

Last night was a first for the VM Radio Battle of the Bands - the audience called for an encore from one of the competitors.

Unfortunately, due to time restrictions, The Apocalypse Afterparty was unable to comply.

The self-proclaimed "masked bandits of rock, roll and the swaying of hips" will, however, move on to the final showdown as they garnered the top score during Wednesday night's third and final qualifying round.

But they aren't the only ones moving on from that night.

Post-punk garage-wave band Gnaeus earned the wildcard position and will join The Bear Hunters, Mannapool, and The Apocalypse Afterparty in the Wednesday, March 25 deciding contest.

Also competing last evening were Project 421 and Mike Haggith and the Din.

Presented in collaboration with VM Radio and Tidal Records, this first annual Battle of the Bands happens every Wednesday evening in March at the Canadian Night Club.

Performers are scored in a number of categories by a panel of three judges - Rob Speers (Village Media), Rob Figures (The Sault Metal Scene), and Dustin Jones (Tidal Records).

Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Best Overall Band, Best Original Song, Best Drummer, Best Bass Player, Best Guitar Player, Best Vocal Performance, Most Energetic Band, Fan Favourite, and Most Enthusiastic Fan.

This is a licensed all-ages event.

The four-night event is made possible thanks to support from VM Radio, Tidal Records, Mission Control Studio, Case's Music, Right Hook Mics, The Rad Zone, The Sault Metal Scene, Maxx Graphix, Budweiser, and Bomb Energy Drink.
