SAULT STE MARIE, MI – In any given 24 hours, most students will attend a few classes, eat a sandwich, check things off the to-do list, or watch some TV and get some sleep.

But what if instead of the usual routine one decided to write, rehearse and perform a play that was all put together in 24 hours?

That's the premise behind "Stage 24," which will be performed at 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, at the LSSU Arts Center.

Admission is free.

How does it work?

At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 20, the evening before the performance, three student playwrights will gather in the Arts Center and pull their casts from a hat.

They will receive a line of dialogue and a prop that must be used in their scripts.

No writing is allowed beforehand.

At 8 a.m. on the morning of the performance, Saturday, February 21, the directors and actors will receive the scripts and start rehearsal.

By 8 p.m. that evening, the world premier of three original short plays will be presented!

The playwrights, actors, and directors are all LSSU students who participate in the Lake State Theatre Department.

There are no auditions -- if you want to participate, you can.

Anyone who wants to be in the cast or help backstage must be present at 8 p.m. on February 21 when the casts are picked.

Professor Jenn Hunter says the plays can vary in length anywhere from 15-40 minutes, maybe longer.
