It’s a New Year so try learning something new!

Starting Monday, January 26 the Algoma Conservatory of Music will begin offering a New Horizons Band class for adults.

No previous music experience is needed.

Focused on a burgeoning group of Canadians, newly retired and semi-retired individuals, this innovative program gives them an opportunity to learn or relearn a skill.

Playing music in a group setting brings a special joy and helps maintain mental and physical health.

The New Horizons Music concept, has become popular in communities across Canada and the US, with over 200 performing ensembles in existence.

Enticing mature amateur musicians, who possibly played in high school, the chance allows them to finally enjoying music making again.

Or perhaps they have always wanted to give playing a wind instrument, such as saxophone or trumpet, a try.

This program also allows adults to meet new people and have a whole lot of fun in a group activity.

The lessons will be held at the stunningly beautiful Conservatory’s new home at Mill Square.

Classes run on Monday mornings from 10 - 12 for the semester.

Tuition is inexpensive, and reasonably priced instruments are available for rent.

To kick off the NHB program, on Monday January 26 a "Play Day" will be hosted by the Algoma Conservatory.

This free information session will give have the opportunity to tryout various wind instruments offered in the program.

The director of the new program is Ed Dickey, a well qualified retired music teacher from the Algoma District School Board.
