Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap Tour - Every Song Tells a Story took the Sault listeners on a sojourn through his back catalogue of hits, including those with The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive.

He chose, however, to open the 90-minute show with his 1993 tune Prairie Town, originally recorded with long-time friend and fellow Winnipegger Neil Young.

He followed this with Shakin' All Over, a Johnny Kidd and the Pirates cover that found Bachman on the music charts for the very first time in 1965 as part of Chad Allan and the Reflections.

From The Guess Who archives, Bachman pulled These Eyes, Laughing, No Sugar Tonight, Undun, No Time and of course, American Woman.

Between songs, the 71-year-old wove playful yarns that detailed the birth of each composition.

American Woman, he explained, emerged after nearly being drafted into military service in the United States at the peek of the Vietnam War.

Bachman found the iconic opening riff as he tuned his guitar during a Kingston curling rink gig.

"[American Woman] went to No.1 on American radio stations before they realized it was an anti-American war protest song sung by four Canadians," he joked to the audience.

Drawing on his Bachman-Turner Overdrive library, he selected Roll On Down the Highway, Let It Ride, Lookin' Out For #1, You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet, and the show-closer that had the crowd in its feet, Takin' Care of Business.

Joining Bachman on stage were Marc LaFrance (drums, vocals), Brent Knudson (guitar, vocals), and Charles Cozens (piano, Keyboards, musical director).

Touring with Bachman for more than 13 years acting as a stellar Burton Cummings stand in was Sault Ste. Marie native Mick Della-Vee on bass and vocals.

Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap Tour - Every Song Tells a Story is scheduled to make a number of stops across Ontario, including those in London, Kitchener, Ottawa and Burlington.
