Canadian country music star George Canyon took almost 700 Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre guests on a 25-year musical journey as he stopped in Sault Ste. Marie during his Decade of Hits tour on Friday, September 26.

Opening the night was young up-and-comer Jordan McIntosh as an incognito Canyon backed him on guitar as a member of the band.

Stepping from the shadows to stage front following McIntosh’s three-song set, Canyon began his musical biography with the very first song he learned on both guitar and harmonica - Neil Young’s Heart of Gold.

He continued with tributes to the songs and artists that shaped his career, including songs from Johnny Cash, Gordon Lightfoot, Randy Travis, Elvis Presley and the Beatles.

From his own library of hits, he chose Never Do Better, One Good Friend, Good Day to Ride, Betty’s Buns, Somebody Wrote Love, and many others.

As much a story-teller and entertainer as he is a vocalist and musician, Canyon expressed his profound appreciation to the dedicated fans that have allowed him to have a flourishing career in the nation of his birth.

His coast-to-coast Decade of Hits tour continues throughout October with stops in Regina, Winnipeg, Calgary, Medicine Hat, Cranbrook, and many others.
